Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As farm shops and cafes go this is mediocre. If you wanted a big breakfast fry-up or a burger as you jumped off your motorbike then this is probably for you. The place looks a tad grubby with dated blue paintwork in need of attention...and generally not too clean. Sorry folks but it just didn’t do it for us but some will be happy with it I am sure.More

Stopped on the way from the A1 into York. Down a dead end road to a farm but not too far from the main road, just follow the big, and small signs. Farm shop looked well stocked. We just had coffees and a quick break.

Stopped in past for a lazy lunch this week. Good choice on menu, opted for Huntsman platter and my wife choose the cheese and ham toastie. Good hearty portions, lovely atmosphere, great price. Loads of quality products onthe butchers counter. Bought 3 packs of sausages...and some bread rolls. Pork & black pudding, pork & apple & spice Spanish. Can't wait to get them on the bbq. Highly recommended. ThanksMore

We called in to the cafe whilst passing through the area. So glad we did, what a lovely farm shop and cafe. The staff were so friendly and polite. There was plenty of room to sit and it was light and airy. The menu was...really varied, something for everyone. The food was really tasty and very filling. Highly recommended and will return!More

Visited the farm shop about 09.30 on Saturday. The car park was very icy. Realising this, my husband held on to the car as he got out but still fell over and hurt his elbow and neck. There was no evidence of any salt/grit having...been put down so we mentioned this to the staff. Disappointingly, the only response we got was, ‘well it’s the weather’. They never even asked if he was ok. Don’t want to make a mountain out of a mole hill but, a public car park in this icy state could cause someone a serious injury. Please be careful if you are visiting through the winter months as there didn’t appear to be any recognition that this needed to be addressed.More

I use the farm shop a lot and the meat (particularly the pork and very particularly the sausages) are the best anywhere locally - and I have done extensive market research 🧐. We don’t eat in often but the bacon and sausage sandwiches that we...have had occasionally are very good. I really don’t recognise the description of the cafe area being dirty - ever - below and would not be put off by what must have been a one off bad experience in my view.More

This is a farm shop and a small restaurant with both seating indoors and out, we ordered two full English breakfasts which came with hot drinks and toast, when we arrived a party of cyclists had just ordered so we did have to wait a...little bit but we were told this when we ordered. The breakfast was large and had a bit of everything you would expect and we could not fault the service or the staff, the only thing that let it down very slightly was there isn't any atmosphere and its not very inviting in the actual indoor seating area but the food was very good and if we lived in the area we would go back for breakfast.More

We called in thinking 'Farm Shop' that's bound to be good for breakfast! How wrong we were. We arrived just after 10am on a Sunday so the 1st customers and it was filthy. The table was full of yesterdays debris, the floor hadn't been swept...in a long time, salt & pepper pots were disgusting, the walls were splashed with food remnants, there was more cobwebs for spiders than I'd care to shake a feather duster at and generally cleanliness was poor. We wiped our able with a wet wipe and continued to shake off the flies whilst having our brew and butty in clean crockery although the napkins were wet so no use to anyone. To be fair it tasted ok but within hours we were both rolling around in agony with upset stomachs. As we paid the bill we looked around at the food preparation and were shocked at the filth and especially grease so early in the day. Thanks for ruining our weekend and we definitly will NOT returnMore

I Just want to say thank you to Mary and the team at Tancred for their super service during lockdown and the steps they take to keep everyone safe. Everything is up to their usual high standards and I really appreciate all the extra effort...that they have to put in at the moment. Despite the sit in cafe being closed at the moment, the team are still providing excellent service and produce within the shopMore

Fantastic - and open for business! I won’t buy beef (especially steak) anywhere else. It’s taken me 20 years to find somewhere that sells steak as fine as this. The butchers are first rate and can accommodate any cut I’ve asked of them. Genuinely world...class. Great farm shop generally, and the breakfasts are worth the trip too.More

I called in for a take out as I was working. It was 11.30am mid week so it was quiet. Anyway I was well looked after. I got a really full beef sandwich - amazing quality. I loved it. The coffee was good too. A...great place to stop for a take out and good to support our local farmers! Thanks guys. Really friendly service.More

We called in after seeing the large sign on the A59 but the farm shop is down a narrow farm road with the shop hidden at the end by a large hedge which also makes parking difficult. The farm shop itself is good and the...meat clearly freshly butchered as you can see the carcasses hanging behind. The cafe is small though and we thought the coffee and cake only average. Ideal for cyclists though who can park round the back,More

4 of us went for breakfast. We waited for ages for our breakfasts to arrive (nearly an hour they were not that busy when we arrived. - impression was that they were prioritising easier orders. / smaller tables). Everybody's bacon was burnt (we noticed this...at a table that was served before we were as well) and the sausages were borderline. Most of the fried egg yolks were broken and two lots looked more like scrambled eggs. We considered asking for replacements but didn't want to wait another hour. No short order cook with any pride would put out food like that. Getting bacon and eggs right is a pretty easy thing to do. The owner asked if I'd enjoyed my meal and the I told him about the burnt food & broken eggs he shrugged his shoulders. To be fair, the price was reasonable and the (unburnt) food quite tasty.More

It is signposted off the old Roman Road north and the farm track is of tarmac and wide enough for a nice ride to a small car park. The working farm offers a butcher's a small store of veg and other kitchen staples and cheese....It is a real butcher's - people who know who to prepare different cuts and can recommend the best cut for different dishes. The cafe has a reasonable number of tables inside and a small outdoor area. Service is friendly and efficient and the food is very good quality. I recommend combining the trip to the farm shop with a snack or lunch.More
