Tabled booked for 11 months. Still had to wait 45 minutes before seated. then 30 minutes to get a drink of water. Just through pure greed. definitely won't be going back. Glad I walked out or it would have been a long wait to eat.

We had passed the restaurant several times on our walk into York centre and the restaurant always seemed busy and had atmosphere. We did not book and were warmly welcomed and shown to a table straight away. Several groups in creating the right atmosphere. We chose the Chicken Tikka Marsala and the Afghanistan Lamb dish with sides of pillau rice... More

Called in on Sunday evening, had to wait a few minutes for a table as they were quite busy. I ordered one of the Chefs specials (Chicken Malaya - I think it was called) and it was really nice. My friend had a Lamb Korma and he was quite impressed with it. Portion sizes were good. Waiters could have been... More

Wife and I decided on different dishes with Afghan Chicken the winner of the two; I opted for another house speciality which despite a very enticing name was forgettable and the Bombay Aloo was also pretty lacklustre. Popadoms and sides were fine. Can't help but conclude there are much better in York which we will return to.

Visited on a Friday night with 2 friends. We are regulars. As always, the staff are friendly and attentive. Food was great and plenty of it. Atmosphere good.

Went here for a family meal and received a very warm welcome. The guy who took the order knew the menu inside out and was able to help with selections offering to tone down spices as needed. Service was excellent and the food was the best Indian we have had in York.

This is a fairly regular Indian restaurant for us (read: 4 times a year-ish). The food is consistently good and is probably the best of its kind in York. It certainly compares very well with Indian restaurants in Bradford, etc. The regular local clientele reflects this. The service is usually very good and the waiters are always friendly and helpful.... More

When we booked a table for two on Saturday evening we were told there may be a slight wait as the restaurant was likely to be busy, this was fine as we’d been many times before and knew there was a waiting area where we could chat and have a drink. After a short delay we were shown to our... More

Usually get a takeaway from here, but decided to eat in for a change. Went with my partner, two teenagers and my son's girlfriend. Poppadoms to start with the pickle tray, very nice. We then all ordered various chicken dishes, bhuna, balti, rogan josh etc. I ordered the chicken munchoria off the chefs recommended menu, and it was one of... More

I have not been to the Viceroy for several years but made a return tonight. As I remembered it the food was amazingly flavoursome with a wide range of styles of dishes - I.e not just the same old stuff that most places do. The chicken Nawhbi Khana is a brilliant meal with delicate and robust flavours - rich and... More
