Stumbled on this place by accident down a little alleyway, ordered food quite late at night, food was lovely and staff happy to help, would definitely eat there again.

I visited this old and quaint pub, just off the Shambles in York with two cousins as I was on a day visit to York to complete a short break in the area. The bar service was excellent and friendly. We decided to find a quieter spot other than the main bar, which had TV on and also loud music playing.... More

Was so looking forward to a lovely Sunday lunch in one of yorks most famous pubs, booked a table for 1pm arrived just shortly after to a busy pub, when deciding on what to have, we were informed that they had run out of beef which was very disappointing considering they only started serving lunches at 12!,and and were very... We visited the pub on a drizzly Saturday afternoon, and the place was fairly busy with drinkers and eaters. The pub is accessed through an alley, and once inside, there is a muddle of small rooms and a long bar - there are two outside seating areas as well. I felt that the place had too many tables in the... More

We visited here on 23/6/16 for lunch. My wife uses an electric wheelchair and I can report that she was able to get from the street through their alley and through the front door so that made our decision to eat here easy. We have been coming to York for many years but we have never set foot in here... More

This place caught my eye when looking for somewhere to have a late lunch. Believed to be the oldest licensed premises in York, it looked quite an interesting from the outside and I was at first a tad disappointed to find it was one of those ‘chain’ pubs. Thus my expectations were not high. However, the staff was friendly, the... More

This pub stated it was the oldest pub in York though going through the door it was more Wetherspoons. I know you have to move with the times but the appeal as you walk passed was its heritage. Average beer served by a moderately friendly female member of staff. Wouldn't use again or recommend, however it was busy so maybe... More

Visited here on a sunny Sunday afternoon, it was dirty, drinks expensive and the staff rude. Unless you are a pretty and young person the barman ignores you.

It is billed as the oldest pub in York and is a charming and welcoming place. There are around 6 hand pulled ales on tap. We sat outside in the courtyard. A really good traditional pub
