A mixture of professional and social networking after a professional meeting. The food was fine and the drinks were wide-ranging and potable. Would like to go there again.

I have eaten here for at least 5years now and it is consistently brilliant. The proprietor has worked incredibly hard and long to get this business at its very best. We visited at lunchtime today and I had a pretty awesome biriany with jeweled Persian...More

Starters were flawless - delicious chicken liver pate and a black pudding scotch egg that was perfect. However the gnocchi main was a bit strange and very rich. My boyfriend's duck was tasty but cold and the root vegetables on both the mains were hard...More

We were staying in accomodation just around the corner and stumbled upon this restaurant when looking for somewhere nearby for a Sunday evening meal. We were welcomed with a pleasant greeting and received a relaxed, very helpful service throughout the meal. The lamb and beef...More

Had brunch here. Good food, but not standing out over other great brunch places nearby. Brunch offering is new here resulting in a very good inaugural discount, making it particularly cheap. It's normal prices are still very competitive.

My last visit was on a blisteringly hot day, but today's visit was accompanied by a bitter wind. So the choice of a Soup was easy - Cream of Jerusalem Artichoke and Celeriac with Toasted Flake Almonds, plus Crispy Bread - truly delicious. My Guest...More

What a find! We got recommended to come here. So glad we went. Do not be put off by this place being called a cafe. The food was exceptional and if anything the surroundings didn’t do it justice but the service matched it all perfectly....More

Description
Our small-but-beautiful bistro is found on the busy and lively Gillygate in York. A street full of independent shops and businesses, it leads right into the heart of York through one of its ancient City gates. A traditional and cosy bistro front room that evokes the brasseries of Paris connects to a more spacious and lighter garden room at the rear. This in turn leads to our charming and secluded garden area adjoining the City Walls and basking in the glory of the fabulous York Minster. Whether you come for breakfast, for lunch, or an evening meal, the bistro provides a delightful setting for you to enjoy your meal. Ideal for romantic couples, families or large groups, Café No.8’s bistro offers simple, modern, quality food at excellent value. Make a reservation and see why we consistently appear in ‘top places to eat’ lists both locally and nationally.
