I went in from the biting wind last week and had an excellent high tea. Good choices of teas, sandwiches and cakes and excellent service. I sat for nearly an hour enjoying about four cups (Very generous with the tea in York!) and wasn't hassled. I 100% recommend it.

Set in an old butcher's shop this eating place has charm and quality with very attentive staff and the friendly owner who is willing to help out as well. Food prepared on the premises to a very high standard in this venue which has been there for over 20 years

My second or maybe third visit here and wasn't disappointed. A perfect independent tea rooms, leaves the 'famous ' place standing. Attentive staff and a lovey gift shop selling teas and coffees, along with the paraphernalia that goes with all that. Always a warm welcome.

Called in whilst taking a stroll through the shambles in York. Attracted to the sign for buttie and a brew. Bacon sandwich with pot of tea. Great value and very tasty. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area looking for a nice cuppa and a good selection of cakes too 😊

We were seated promptly at around 3 on Saturday. The waitresses were very courteous and the teas we ordered came with a strainer and bowl for said strainer, as well as a pot of extra hot water. The tea drinkers had enough for 4 cups of tea each because of the extra hot water. One orderde a latte (said it... More

Visited here on a busy saturday afternoon and was lucky enough to be seated almost immediately. Friendly, welcoming staff make a great first impression in the shop entrance. Lots of small rooms rather than one big space, which gives a very cosy and homely feel. In addition to tea and cakes, a good selection of sandwiches and savoury snacks -... More

The tea rooms looked beautiful from the outside, but disappointing inside. The tea was good, but slightly overpriced. Again, the cake was ok, but overpriced. Cheap ice cream served with the cake - would not recommend.

Quaint and quirky tea rooms spread over 3 floors, with tables and settee seating available, in individual little rooms on all floors. Friendly helpful staff, superb cakes! Pricey but highly recommended!

Lovely grilled cheese on toast and cream tea. Great selection of teas. Plenty of tea rooms along The Shambles however we were not disappointed with this one.

Stopped here for breakfast before a day of shopping and was not disappointed. Two teacakes and two teas. Yum. Teacakes were yummy with melted butter and the service was good. My mum even left her gloves behind which were found and we collected later in the day when she realised. Toilets very clean also.
