Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My family celebrated my Mums 80th birthday here today. It’s my favourite place in Northampton for afternoon tea and extremely good value. The food is excellent and there’s always some left over to take home. As a vegan the selection of sandwiches, pastries and cakes...offered are amazing & everyone else really enjoyed there’s too. Rachael always answered my emails promptly when organising the booking. I highly recommend a visit.More

Had afternoon tea which was excellent lots of food savoury served first on tiered stand nice selection not just the usual sandwiches them another tiered stand brought out of cakes and scones unlimited tea. Down side is the room is looking very tired shame when...they spent all that money on the building extension they didn’t referb the tea room really let’s it down and spoils what otherwise would be a lovely afternoon teaMore

We were given a lovely table in the window for our Afternoon Tea voucher booking overlooking the garden and park opposite. The waitress was very nice and was on hand throughout our visit to top up the bottomless Tea and check we were happy with...the food. The first tier arrived comprising of small sandwiches, cheese scones and mini quiche. The bitesize sandwiches were a little disappointing and could do with being of a more standard size. The second tier arrived and was more impressive with two large plain scones, clotted cream (Cornish potted version) and a huge serving of strawberry jam. Accompanying the scones was a selection of lovely fresh cakes and tarts which made up for the sandwiches previously. Having not been here for a number of years it was a nice to visit again and was topped off with a cold glass of prosecco we hadn't realised was included with our voucher.More

Mother's Day cream tea. This was a wonderful day a treat for my mum. Food was wonderful especially the coronation chicken. The deserts were brilliant and we left full and happy. The young lady serving the upstairs was wonderful and friendly and nothing was to...much troubleMore

We both thoroughly enjoyed the food, friendliness and excellent service in the Dining Room. The sandwiches, pastries, scones and cakes were all delicious. I will definitely go again soon. The tea was nice and consistently refilled and all for the one price. Definitely worth a...visit, but allow at least and hour and a half as there is so much food you may struggle to eat it all. You get two food deliveries, savoury and sweet. We were there for 2 hours and took some lovely food home with us. A lovely location to catch up with old friends. Give them a try and I don’t think you will be disappointed.More

The dining room felt like a disused back room in someone's house; clean enough but not particularly inviting. The service was ok; the waitress was pleasant but we had to ask for extra drinks rather than being offered. Sandwiches were removed to make way for...the deserts and we assumed they'd be boxed up but unfortunately not. Remaining cakes we had to ask for them to be boxed up. The food was rather average; sandwiches and scones were nice (these were served warm and were very fresh) but the 'deserts' appeared to be defrosted (or had spent some time in the fridge getting a little soggy), clotted cream served in fridge packs, jam in a ramekin with no serving spoon, strange pink faircakes that would really only appeal to children. It's almost there but it's not quite hitting the mark.More

Amazing afternoon tea. Such good value in great atmospheric surroundings. Make sure you go to the museum next door as well. Booking is required for both the museum and afternoon tea.

Wonderful afternoon tea on Easter Sunday celebrating my parents’ golden wedding anniversary. The food was delicious with a wide range of sandwiches and cakes, and the service was excellent. The owners catered for the gluten free members of our family perfectly - there was no...fuss and the gluten free food was yummy. I would highly recommended The Dining Room for any special occasion, as well as a quick coffee and cake.More

We visited yesterday after a visit to 78 Derngate - lovely way to end our 'tour' - we ate lunch in the Dining Room - excellent food and lovely service. Food quality was exceptional. My only comment is the Menu choices were not the same...as on the website so hubby was a bit disappointed as he'd set his sights on the gammon ham! However a Peroni beer soon took care of him! Two of us had coronation chicken sandwich in malted bloomer; one had a BLT and the other a smoked salmon salad with mini roasted new potatoes. Very tasty side of homemade 'chips' that were in fact potato slices with the skin on.More

My first time visiting here for afternoon tea and I was so impressed with the service and food here! There was a lovely selection of drinks and sweet and savoury goodies, and all tasted delicious. Thanks to the amazing staff for also adding a surprise...for my birthday and bringing out a cake and candle, was such a lovely gesture. Definitely recommend this place and I can’t wait to visit again! xMore

After being let down at the very last minute by another Northampton establishment we rang the Dining Room to see if they could accommodate us for a 40th Birthday afternoon tea. We arrived less than ten minutes later and were absolutely delighted to find our...table decorated for the occasion with a banner and table confetti. The food was absolutely outstanding, A good selection of pillow soft sandwiches, the most amazing warm savoury scones with cheese and chutney, quiches and other savouries were just for starters. Next followed the most incredible array of cakes, macarons and warm fluffy scones with clotted cream. Gorgeous crockery, and a plentiful supply of tea, things could not have been any better or so we thought.......the staff then bought in a 40th birthday decorated brownie complete with candle and sang to the birthday girl. Service was attentive without being overbearing, what a brilliant afternoon. Thank you guys you made our day.More

I want to give the best review but also I have to be honest . The staff were lovely , we were served very quickly we had big pots of tea , couldn't fault the sandwiches they were lovely the garnish was slightly wilted ....The cakes and Scones were lovely I have been to quite a few afternoon teas in London but the cakes here were better . The cake on the top tier was gorgeous it was like eating a Rolo . This is the bit I have to say what I was thinking , the mirror in the corner was very dusty and the windows had finger marks on . As the room is small I think these little things make all the difference. Everything else was Excellent . I couldn't mark you down for such small things that not everyone would notice .More
