Amazing afternoon tea! Beautifully presented with 5 different sandwich fillings, savoury pastries, cakes, scones with jam and cream, desserts and macarons with bottomless tea and boxes to take home what we didn't have room for. Thank you for such a lovely relaxing, delicious end to our afternoon.

Oh my goodness; what a find. We went here for a special afternoon tea for Father’s Day. As a vegan I’m used to being an afterthought. But not here. Not only fresh sandwiches but mini pastries etc all for vegans. The vegetarians had similarly high quality food. The scones were lovely but oh my word what amazing cakes. 5 each (and the vegan had 5 cakes too and not a fruit kebab in sight! If you are a vegan you know!!!). The afternoon tea was topped off by fresh fruit for all. They even allowed my son to have two hot chocolates with cream in the afternoon deal. Unheard of. The vegan cherry cake was to die for by the way! We’ve been to many places for afternoon tea, but for quality, price and choice it’s rivalling the Ritz. Thanks for the warm welcome and service, three very happy vegetarians and a vegan, who is also extremely stuffed lying on the sofa!

After being let down at the very last minute by another Northampton establishment we rang the Dining Room to see if they could accommodate us for a 40th Birthday afternoon tea. We arrived less than ten minutes later and were absolutely delighted to find our table decorated for the occasion with a banner and table confetti. The food was absolutely outstanding, A good selection of pillow soft sandwiches, the most amazing warm savoury scones with cheese and chutney, quiches and other savouries were just for starters. Next followed the most incredible array of cakes, macarons and warm fluffy scones with clotted cream. Gorgeous crockery, and a plentiful supply of tea, things could not have been any better or so we thought.......the staff then bought in a 40th birthday decorated brownie complete with candle and sang to the birthday girl. Service was attentive without being overbearing, what a brilliant afternoon. Thank you guys you made our day.

Tom my friend for her birthday as we both love the dining room afternoon tea. Worst experience we have had here not been for awhile so don’t know if it has changed hands. Waited for 10 minutes to be seated. Apparently you have to pre order pimms if you want it never had to do that before. Food came out alot more than previous visits. The food was not as nice as the previous menu felt like it was cheap supermarket sausage rolls/ mini pizzas and quiche.
Would be nicer if it was better quality and less food. Drinks weren’t good either Prosecco was warm and coffee was awful.
Such a shame use to be one of the best places for afternoon tea will not be returning in the foreseeable future.

Wonderful afternoon tea on Easter Sunday celebrating my parents’ golden wedding anniversary. The food was delicious with a wide range of sandwiches and cakes, and the service was excellent. The owners catered for the gluten free members of our family perfectly - there was no fuss and the gluten free food was yummy. I would highly recommended The Dining Room for any special occasion, as well as a quick coffee and cake.

I want to give the best review but also I have to be honest . The staff were lovely , we were served very quickly we had big pots of tea , couldn't fault the sandwiches they were lovely the garnish was slightly wilted .
The cakes and Scones were lovely I have been to quite a few afternoon teas in London but the cakes here were better . The cake on the top tier was gorgeous it was like eating a Rolo .
This is the bit I have to say what I was thinking , the mirror in the corner was very dusty and the windows had finger marks on . As the room is small I think these little things make all the difference. Everything else was Excellent . I couldn't mark you down for such small things that not everyone would notice .

My family celebrated my Mums 80th birthday here today. It’s my favourite place in Northampton for afternoon tea and extremely good value. The food is excellent and there’s always some left over to take home. As a vegan the selection of sandwiches, pastries and cakes offered are amazing & everyone else really enjoyed there’s too. Rachael always answered my emails promptly when organising the booking. I highly recommend a visit.

Have had some amazing afternoon teas here in the past so suggested to friends for us to go. Extremely disappointed this time I assume it’s because it has changed hands. Used to get 2 three tier cake stands one with savoury and one sweet used to be lovely. Now you only get ONE four tier stand and not the quality used to be. So a good 30% less food and more expensive!!! Won’t be back!

The dining room felt like a disused back room in someone's house; clean enough but not particularly inviting. The service was ok; the waitress was pleasant but we had to ask for extra drinks rather than being offered. Sandwiches were removed to make way for the deserts and we assumed they'd be boxed up but unfortunately not. Remaining cakes we had to ask for them to be boxed up.
The food was rather average; sandwiches and scones were nice (these were served warm and were very fresh) but the 'deserts' appeared to be defrosted (or had spent some time in the fridge getting a little soggy), clotted cream served in fridge packs, jam in a ramekin with no serving spoon, strange pink faircakes that would really only appeal to children.
It's almost there but it's not quite hitting the mark.

What an absolute delight!
We had afternoon tea after touring the house, it was amazing! Such beautifully presented fresh food, a whole tier of savouries including gorgeous warm savoury scones followed by a second tier of delicious sweets including huge warm sweet scones, jam and cream. Unlimited choice of beverages too!
The service was personal and attentive, they cared that you were happy.
Our last afternoon tea was at a nearby emporium, this one at The Dining Room surpassed that one by miles. I am already recommending to all of my friends that they book to go!
Thank you The Dining Room, we loved our visit with you.

We booked “on spec” to have afternoon tea at The Dining Room on The Derngate, Northampton - and couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised!
It’s a fairly small but cosy room so it’s well worth remembering to book. Their menu has a whole page full of teas of all kinds from standard house through Earl Grey to fruit teas like Mango.
You can have just tea (or coffee) with dainty sandwiches, or scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam or, as we did, the two course afternoon tea. This consisted of as much tea as you could drink, with a wonderful selection of freshly made sandwiches, followed by a second pyramid of cakes & home made scones! Delicious and all very fresh!
You might need time to park (nearest in Albion Place near Derngate Theatre) - but it’s worth it!
The prices are very reasonable but do remember to book in advance and allow enough time not to have to rush - this is an experience to savour, you won’t forget it in a hurry!

Rach and Dan,
Thankyou very much for arranging the afternoon tea for my parents at such short notice. They both said the food was fantastic and plenty of it, lasting all day including supper. The highlight for my father was the scones which were fresh, light and the best jam he’s tasted. The highlight for my mother was “all of it”. They also complemented the man (Dan) that delivered it as he was so nice and friendly, just wanting them to enjoy the food.
Thanks again,
Jason

Me and my friends loved this afternoon tea. The food was so fresh and absolutely delicious - particular favourite was the savoury selection. The plates and teapots are cute and although the room was cosy we didn't feel too close to the other tables. The staff were wonderful and thankfully we could take the uneaten cakes home!

We visited yesterday after a visit to 78 Derngate - lovely way to end our 'tour' - we ate lunch in the Dining Room - excellent food and lovely service. Food quality was exceptional. My only comment is the Menu choices were not the same as on the website so hubby was a bit disappointed as he'd set his sights on the gammon ham! However a Peroni beer soon took care of him! Two of us had coronation chicken sandwich in malted bloomer; one had a BLT and the other a smoked salmon salad with mini roasted new potatoes. Very tasty side of homemade 'chips' that were in fact potato slices with the skin on.
