Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

So glad that the Lamplighter has survived COVID and is back serving its wonderful Sunday lunches! The Lamplighter is probably the best example of responding to COVID that I have seen so far - tables have been removed to allow for social distancing, details for track and trace are taken at the time of booking and orders can be placed on an app. As ever the food was delicious Large portions with all the trimmings as well as a range of delicious sides that can be added to the order. The Lamplighter caters for both meat eaters and veggies. There is an awesome dessert board but I would always recommend the cheese board and locally roasted coffee! If you want to test the waters of eating out post COVID I would heartily recommend! Can't wait to return

Very impressive friendly local pub. They obviously care and will offer ‘taster’ drinks, explain the menu and ensure you enjoy your experience. Yet, they also retain the ambiance of a good old style pub. There’s a great vegan tapas Tuesday that varies each week-Ideal if you’ve a dairy intolerance. An excellent other menu (with offers like 1/2 price Thursday burgers) that’s we’re gradually working through - it’s becoming a weekly habit! Excellent range of draft ciders, possibly the only draft % alcoholic lager (lucky saint) in town? Phipps gold star and other real ales. Dining in the bar. If fine, please try the large, beautiful, inspirational courtyard garden with gorgeous vertical planting! Parking in the adjacent St Michaels car park.

This is the best pub in Northampton, hands down! I was born and raised in Northampton, but now live in LA. I must say I got a bit used to the friendly service of the Californians, and when I come back to the UK the service in restaurants can be a little… you know… grumpy and underwhelming by comparison. The Lamplighter is completely different. The service is so excellent! Very attentive, staff have excellent knowledge of all the food and drinks and they still have the cheekiness of our lovely UK humour, you feel at home straight away! The beer is brilliant with a range of local brews and ones from further afield, all excellent and a wide range for different tastes. The food is always great! And lots of options, the veggie choices are super nice too! The Sunday Lunch Roast always makes me feel happy when I visit home, and it is a must for me when I am in town. Overall, a visit home wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the ‘Lamp’ with all the smiling friendly staff, brilliant food and drink, and some awesome music nights to top it all off. If you are visiting, or are a local, just go and check it out, it is just great! Also… sticky toffee pudding… sticky toffee pudding…sticky toffeeMmmmggmmm

Popped in for a spot of lunch with my son, I only wanted something light so ordered the chicken, bacon and avocado on brown bread, however no brown bread available so opted for white. My son ordered a jerk chicken burger. My sandwich arrived, however, I was unable to eat all of it due to the outside of the sandwich being too hard, to be brutally honest it was as hard as rock. No one asked how our food was until we had finished and when they did come and take our plates away, I informed the waiter, however, he did not seem at all interested. On a positive note my son burger was excellent.

The lamplighter is famed for its awesome Sunday roast, but it was a tad disappointing today. Our 6pm booking was a mistake as half the menu was no longer available and the service was really lacking. The food was cold and the waiting staff didn't seem to be interested in remeding this. Orders were muddled and service was slow. The lamplighter let us down today 😔

Food is good but portions are tiny, beef roast was £13.95 the one carrot was laughable… there was also hair everywhere on the napkin under a fork, in a dinner and stuck on a pint glass. Staff were pleasant but took a while to serve/check for refills. Expect to leave hungry

First visit as part of a group for Sunday lunch and have to say what an excellent Sunday roast and good value too. Yorkshire pud, roasts potatoes, carrots, peas, red cabbage and kale all accompanied choice of roast. And with 3 veggie options to choose from a real delight for friends as well as catering for gluten free including gluten free gravy made for a very happy table. The homemade sticky toffee pudding was an absolutely delicious. Very impressed and will be back to try the regular menu too!

First vist on recommendation for your Sunday roast and it certainly didn't disappoint. The food was amazing The only thing that let it down was how long we waited for our order to be taken and for how long it took for our main and also dessert to come out. The staff seemed very quick to clear tables and get people seated but seem to forget about others already seated.

Have been visiting the Lamplighter for a number of years but never tried the infamous Sunday roast so we booked. Ordered a pint of Dank Marvin IPA from Abyss brewery.. awesome, and a thatchers for my wife. We ordered Roast Beef, Roast Pork and cauliflower cheese. This was all cooked to perfection and generous portions...By far the best Roast in Northants....cant wait to return 10/10🤗

Over Christmas and New year we have been to the Lamplighter for several Sunday roasts which has prompted me to review the pub again. Every time the meal has been fantastic! The staff are always lovely, friendly and helpful which is all part of the atmosphere of the pub. This consistency of service and quality of all their meals has always been this way over the years of us coming to the Lamplighter. My husband is a meat eater and I'm a vegetarian. and there is always something delicious on the menu, no matter what day of the week you go. You just can't go wrong! Thanks everyone.

Met friends for a here on Sunday - didn’t realise there was only a Sunday lunch menu, not a favourite but order a traditional roast which turned out to be so much better than anticipated - perfect pink roast beef, with all the trimmings. Nut roast, one of the vegetarian options excellent too, washed down with a couple of wines from well thought out list - could not fault it and combined with lovely friendly staff. Will be back (even for another Sunday lunch)!

We came to Northampton with friends one of whom has some complex allergies. Found this pub on line so came for a Friday evening meal before The Saints vs London Irish game. What a gem! Great beer and food was really lovely; nothing fancy but pub food cooked really well. Staff were friendly and attentive and made us all feel welcome. If you live in Northampton or are just visiting do look the place up. Highly reccomended.

Met friends at The Lamplighter last night for pre dinner drinks. I haven’t been here for a long time as I no longer work round the corner. We arrived at 6pm. The pub was busy with families, couples, friends and singles. It started to empty around 7, then quickly started to fill up as people arrived in time for the evening band!!! It has a lovely typically English pub vibe. There were even people sitting in the garden courtyard despite the fact it was a little chilly. The barman was friendly and helpful. They had a good choice of draught beers and they even offered my husband a taste before he made his choice. They serve cocktails but unfortunately they couldn’t accommodate my piña colada request, which wasn’t a surprise or a problem. I tried a different cocktail with lemoncello, soda and Prosecco (I think) which was really lovely. During our visit, I use the toilets which were nice and clean, however they were up upstairs, so I don’t know what the options are for disabled visitors. There is a second area upstairs where people were eating. It looked nice and pleasant, and we have decided that we will come back for some food another time. The food has always been excellent when I’ve been before, but as I say, I’ve not been for several years. It’s also nice to see that they welcome dogs. They had a band that was setting up, However, we found them very loud and not our type of music. They have quiz night on Wednesdays and I believe they have a 70s night over the Easter weekend. So it seems they cater for many different tastes. Parking is a challenge, however we got a taxi to this little backstreet pub. Although it is a little out of the way, it’s only a short five minute walk to the centre of town and lots of restaurants and bars, so you have the choice to eat at the Lamplighter and enjoy the entertainment, or to make it ‘one of your stops!’ I look forward to writing another review after we have sampled what I believe will be, excellent food as it looked delicious. We may even book for their Sunday Lunch!

Delicious meal yesterday at the Lamplighter in Northampton. Living in UK for 7 years as an Italian emigrate and it became my point of relaxation, creativity. Warmth atmospheres and Superb Management and Staff. It's home in someway away from Home Tried the italian Tuesday Tapas and I had a really well balanced flovour home made bruschetta with tomato and gorgeous mozzarella 'di bufala', melted in my mouth. Artickoches in marinated dressing-didn't eat Artickoches in England for 7 years, can't find them😭😂😂 and a reasonable well made sundride tomato pesto spaghetti/pesto rosso(red pesto). Kindness and Excellent consumer service as always and beautiful design wise context. Back again really soon for other flovour from the Word. Much love and Light to Lamplighter Pub🕯️✌️
