After a long and stressful week i decided to suggest to my partner that he should take me out for a well earned drink and a bite to eat. I was pleasantly surprised when he suggested that the griffin had reopened with new management and we should give it another try. We had tried the ‘new’ griffin before and although we both loved what had been done to the place we felt, (as i have also read in other reviews) that the service didn't hit the heights of the surroundings.
On arrival we were greeted at the door by the friendly staff and asked them if we were able to get a table outside as it was a lovely evening and we had the dog. Our luck was in as a table had just left, as stated previously we were fans of the revamp already but the outside courtyard was just stunning and a hive of activity with every table full.
Our drinks order was taken promptly and they were bought out quickly too with a brief explanation that the menu was quite new and there was a bit of tweaking going on behind the scenes, we all quite boringly ordered the fish and chips. As we waited we noticed the staff and what i presumed to be the manager busying around the tables with food and drink.
Our food arrived and we were all very impressed with the large fish chunky chips and homemade pea purri and tartare sauce even my teenage son !!!!!!!!!
After a lovely meal and another drink it was time to settle up. Our bill was bought over by the manger and i felt the need to compliment him on the exceptional service from all the staff and quality of food we’d received, i also informed him that this would be our new local. !!!!!!!!

We have been visiting The Griffin for a number of years. The latest visit was the third since the new owners reopened the pub. They have spent a lot of money on a lovely outdoor area and new airy dining area. The Sunday lunch was very good value for money and we will keep eating there occasionally.

Had a really lovely Sunday lunch, warmed plates, hot food, plentiful well cooked vegetables and the Yorkshire pudding was just right. Nice touch both mashed and roasted potatoes. We both had the apple crumble afterwards and nice whole not too sweet pieces of apple and brown sugar used in the crumble. The ice cream in the picture was charged extra but still the best Sunday lunch I’ve had for ages, and we eat out frequently! Service was good too, well done on getting it right in the restaurant. We’ll be back again!

First of all the building has come on in leaps and bounds since the refurb and it's a really nice place, lovely bar area and warm open fire. We came in as a couple or couples for an evening meal and looked online for the menu before we arrived.
It wasnt bsuy and we were seated quickly and drinks orders taken. The staff were really freindly and it was one of the servers first shifts but she met all of our expectations on checking on us and bringing out our food quickly.
Me and my male friend had the Pie. It was recommended from the waitress as they are very popular, however both me and my friend were really dissapointed. It was a suet pie but extremely dry, so much so we ordered more gravy to moisten it up - but it didnt really help, it also didnt have a lot of flavour or seasoning and was just square cuts of beef (i regretted not having the steak which was my other option)
My wife and the other female member of our group were happy with their food and the service was good.
We fed back to the waitress on the pie and that we would give it about a 6/10 and we wouldnt order it again and she said she would take the feedback to the chef.
Overall, a nice environment, service was good but the food was just ok - nothing to write home about.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review. I’m happy to hear that overall you had a positive experience. I can only apologise that the pies were not up to their normal high standard. I thought the venue was fabulous but our meal and service was poor. We have eaten at Perkins, their nearby ‘mother’ restaurant, for many years and have never been disappointed. How could they get this so wrong?
We chose the Thai fish curry and found it tasteless, even though it looked pretty. Also, to have my coffee served before dessert was a thoughtless, stupid error. The spiced plums in the pudding were undercooked and lacked flavour.
Ironically though, what disappointed me most was the lack of reaction when we explained our feelings about the main course. We received no sincere apology, visit from the kitchen staff or token compensation, and no communication/connection when we left the restaurant. It was as if we had never eaten there - really strange and unfriendly.
There was just one other couple in the restaurant when we arrived and another couple when we left. A group of four came and went during our visit. There was also another person sorting paperwork and crunching numbers at a table in the corner - the manager?
Overall the Griffin is a fabulous venue presenting poor food and mediocre service. We won’t be returning until we see from the reviews that these issues have been addressed.

Dear Debbie T,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback on your recent visit to the Griffin.
Although close in proximity we are in no way affiliated with Perkins bar & bistro.
I have spoken with the waitress that served you on Monday afternoon, who has assured me that when checking back on you, you both expressed that you were happy with the food. It was only when Zoe came to clear your empty dishes that you expressed your dissatisfaction with the food. You also asked Zoe to check on our other diners who were having the curry, all of which said they enjoyed It. We aim to fix issues with our food as soon as they are brought to our attention. This is difficult to do if no issue is raised while eating.
I will speak with the staff and ask them to check when customers would like their coffee. I don’t agree with it being a “thoughtless, stupid error” as up to this point no one has ever expressed any concern in having their coffee served just after they ordered it. Unless they have made it known to their server that they would prefer it later. I’m sorry that there was no one around to say goodbye when you left the restaurant.
I’m not sure if you found issue with the customer using the restaurant space to do work while enjoying some food and drink. If we are not full anyone can come and dine with us.
Kind regards,
Tom Gill

Such a shame really looking forward to a Birthday Lunch but if a restaurant cannot serve 9 meals from a set menu at the same time there surely is a problem .3 meals arrived cold to table ,returned to the kitchen for no doubt a blast in the microwave while waiting the other food arrived so we then had to wait for the original meals to be returned .Staff seemed disinterested ,no visits to our table to see if everything was okay .Plates left while other tables were made ready for other dinners ,when menus were returned we were just left waiting to order desserts .Gave up paid the reduced bill and left .One of our party spoke several times to the manager / barman to be told there were all new staff ! Sad when you leave with a bitter taste from third rate service and a total lack of organisation

Dear Robert C,
We are dreadfully sorry you did not have a positive experience with us and, although it made for uncomfortable reading, we appreciate you bringing matters to our attention.
We apologise our level of service fell short of expectations and we have already made a number of changes to hopefully go some way to preventing similar incidents from happening again and to reassure future guests we strive to ensure everyone’s experiences are the best they can possibly be.
Although we acknowledge our front of house staff made a series of errors on your visit we wish to reassure you all our food is prepared fresh on the premises, we do not use pre-prepared or processed foods, we never reheat meals and any rejected or substandard food is disposed of. Meals are never recycled or reused.
We are very sorry you did not get to experience our homemade desserts. All our puddings are freshly prepared and in order to avoid wastage we have to estimate how many of each are likely to be chosen. Although of no consolation it so happens on Sunday our apple crumble was met with very favourable reviews and we sold a disproportionate number than we forecast so we ran out ahead of our other freshly prepared options.
We are pleased you enjoyed and appreciated the surroundings and the ambience of our establishment and in the future, we hope to deliver on all aspects of your experience. We have contacted you privately with regards to yours issues.
Kind Regards
Staff of the Griffin Inn.

Very welcoming and attentive staff. For vegetarians and vegans the menu is superb but for meat eaters there were only 2 options that I can recall i.e. an expensive steak or a beef burger. The burger was a very substantial meal but was not a burger as we know it. It was moulded pulled beef served with all the burger accompaniments. A huge meal, well cooked but not what I was expecting or really enjoyed re texture. There were a number of fish dishes but my choice of a Thai fish curry was unavailable. There were two pies of the day, one was totally vegetarian and the other a cheese and vegetable pie.
I appreciate that there are many people leaning towards plant based foods but I feel this restaurant could present a more balanced menu catering for all tastes.
Will I be returning - YES. My niece is vegetarian so a perfect venue!

Dear Cassonpc,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and I’m glad to hear that you will be visiting us again.
I apologise that your chosen option of Thai fish curry was unavailable. Going forward we will try to make sure that any menu unavailability is passed on to the customer when they are given the menu.
Sorry that you may have been misled by our menu but we do offer a selection of meat options. Whether it is honey mustard glazed Nottinghamshire ham, classic Caesar salad or ploughman’s basket to name a few off the lunch menu. In the future should you have any queries regarding our menu options, please enquire with your server and they will be more than happy to help. We always offer a meat and vegetarian option for the pies as were conscious of the growing demand for vegan and vegetarian choices.
See you again soon.

We had a wonderful lunch with friends at the Griffin last week. We received a warm welcome on arrival there was a lovely log fire burning too. We had time to sit in the beautifully furnished lounge area before going into the dining room. The food was delicious well cooked and nicely presented. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. I am gluten intolerant and usually have to forego the shortcake biscuit with my sweet, but they kindly gave me an alternative g.f. variety. Our coats were taken on arrival and we were shown to our table. All in all a lovely dining experience so much so that we are having our two monthly get together here in the future.

I was visiting my family in Nottingham, and we all decided to go for lunch at The Griffin Plumtree for lunch. Frankly I was disgusted. The staff had a very unprofessional attitude and the service was disgraceful. We waited 40 minutes for our drinks order to arrive. When I queried when our drinks may arrive, the staff member was very passive aggressive, and said “we will bring the drinks out when they’re ready”. How long does it take to pour drinks? Not 40 minutes. I could have poured them faster myself. When the drinks did finally arrive the order was wrong - which they then disputed! There was no apology. We were late for our food booking because the staff were so uninterested in actually serving us. We waited a ridiculous amount of time to be served for food, despite actually having a booking, and when issues were raised with the staff about the service, they weren’t interested. We watched 10 or more tables that arrived after us get served before us, and it genuinely felt that because we had chased our drinks order, it felt deliberate. I had heard incredibly good things about this place, and I was not only disgusted by the attitude towards customers who asked why their drinks were 40 minutes late, but I was extremely disappointed by the attitude we received by the staff serving us. This place is not cheap. They’re expensive and our food and drinks came to over £200. Even though the food was ‘ok’, it wasn’t worth the wait or the cold attitude from the staff. I wouldn’t go again, and frankly I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. When you go to somewhere for lunch, you don’t expect the staff to be entirely incompetent, passive aggressive, and then downright rude. Give this place a miss or you’ll be exceptionally disappointed. They don’t deserve the custom.

I've been to the Griffin a couple of times since it was renovated, and twice during the lockdown. Overall it looks good with a modern feel about it - however if you're looking for a traditional low beamed pub, then this isn't it.
It's got a reasonable range of beers and lagers, etc. plus a range of snacks at the bar. In terms of the layout there's a bar section, a restaurant at the back right, and then an open area at the back left. They do food and it's uniformly been good, if a little pricey. One thing I will say, their onion rings are phenomenal and I say that fully aware of the claim that makes.
When I went during the Covid 'unwinding' they'd done a good job of maintaining social distancing. There's sanitizer at the bar (and the door I think), gaps between tables, you're asked to provide contact details for tracing, plus the loo doors had reminders re. distancing there as well, etc. Overall that was good and I'd feel comfortable doing back again in that regard.
So...overall, a good range of beer, the food was good if a tad expensive for my tastes, and the Covid provisions very good.

Last minute decision on a summer evening to walk the dog and find a pub for a meal. This is not as easy as it used to be and few pubs will allow dogs, However we arrived at the Griffin and were warmly welcomed, although they were 'fully booked' for the evening restaurant we found a table outside and given a menu. Enquiries were made on our behalf and our delicious meal soon arrived, piping hot and professionally served. The table service was very good, the newly refurbished and quiet courtyard with it s comfortable chairs made a pleasant change from the usual park bench pub seats. we sat there until it got dark and had a thoroughly relaxing evening.

We enjoyed a very pleasant early evening meal here in the middle of the week. Plenty of hand sanitiser was available and track and trace was in use. However none of this made it feel too sterile, a very relaxed nice ambience and it almost reminded us of what life used to be like once. We chose to have a drink in the bar before we went through for dinner and thought the bar staff were very efficient and polite as we ordered and then went through when the meal was about to be served. We both chose the steak salad served with stilton and walnuts it was absolutely delicious and we both loved it. For desert I chose to have the warm carrot cake and it was excellent, I can highly recommend it. Despite the fact that it was quite busy we thought all the waiting staff coped well and we were never left waiting for anything. We have decided to come back and try a Sunday lunch soon.

Booked a late Sunday lunch, and I must admit, was slightly nervous as we had heard varying reviews.
Ours was all positive.
A warm welcome, great staff who looked after us very well, and our meal of two roast beef etc was perfect, the beef so tender, and the selection of vegetables were just perfectly cooked.
You must all try The Griffin
Thank you all, and good luck during these difficult times

We booked here for my partner's birthday meal. It was a landmark birthday for her, but owing to the current world situation it was a rather quieter affair than anticipated. We've been to the Griffin a few times before lockdown and always intended to try the food as the refreshments are always good. Anyway, with some trepidation we decided to take the plunge and booked here as our first time eating out since March.
Arriving in the main room the staff were friendly and professional and we were shown to our table in the main dining area, the tables were set comfortingly apart enough to observe social distancing.
Our order was taken quickly and when it arrived the food was delicious from the starter, through the main course and onto the desert that we shared as we were getting rather full by that point.
We were very happy with the experience and would happily go there again!

Took elderly relatives here at the weekend. Service was prompt but not rushed and the staff actually listened, so my aunt had a small portion of chips with her super gammon steak. We all ordered different dishes and enjoyed everything in a light and airy dining room with comfortable chairs and music that truly was "background", rather than drowning conversation.
