Been waiting for the right moment to eat at this spectacular venue. I treated a very close friend to a birthday dinner, knowing it was the place she wanted to experience too. On arrival we was shown to the bar for pre dinner drinks. The...cocktails was made to perfection. We was shown to our lovely relaxing table and Natalia was our waiteress for the evening. We was given warm bread with an amazing chorizo butter. Our starters, main course, sides and desserts were all absolutely stunning. Flavours of gastronomic talent created by head chef Hira and his team. Our relaxed but attentive service was just perfect. Truly the best of hospitality you can experience. Well done to all involvedMore

The second visit and certainly not as slick as the first which was early December on a Saturday. Can’t fault the bar staff before the meal, who served the drinks promptly and politely; but we were booked in for 12 and seated at 12:10 and...the lackluster approach to time followed as the meal progressed. I appreciate £45 is reasonable for a three course dinner, but when you’re the only dinners in the establishment for the first thirty minutes, the bread taking time, the starters taking 35 minutes does seem a little confusing, then the deserts being hurried because the restaurant is busier seems a little contradictory. In no way is this a reason not to try, however, knowing how superb the service could be based on the pre Christmas experience , it was a touch disappointing. The food was excellent- Lamb superb. Beef a little cold but that was because it was under the heat lamps for longer than it should have been. Would still recommend but just advise people to temper expectations regarding exceptional service until the front of house rectify their pace and efficiency. Forgot to claim my Island quarter points but also not prompted by the staff.More

Very nicely done restaurant, interesting menu and all looks the part. Great wine list and superb bar. Food was delicious as was agreed by all our party. However - I do think it’s unfathomably expensive. I had monkfish and chips for main course which is...c £54 inc service charge - seems A LOT, another side dish and you would well over £60. Service in the restaurant was patchy and not commensurate with the price point they are trying to extract from you. Service in the bar was superb. I do wish them well though - if the service was top notch I think this place would really fly.More

I’m so sorry not to rate this higher because watching the chefs work their socks off it should be. BUT they are let down by waitress/front of house. This is supposed to be (& should be classed as) a high end restaurant. However there are...basics which sadly (and still as is on my 6/7 visit here) are not upheld. If we are offered an aperitif then that’s exactly what it should be. Not the case tonight. It firstly took ages to be asked about a drink and then ages for it to arrive. We even delayed ordering our meal to await said drinks. That said our starters still came while still having our cocktails which is not appropriate. That then meant the wine coming mid meal rather than ready for the meal. We are referring to basic pre-requisites here. The meal generally felt rushed and then post the meal we had to flag staff down to request coffee etc. On my very first visit I put some of the poorer service down to teething problems but I’d say by now this should be nailed. I watch in awe at the chefs working here tonight and they deserve huge amounts of praise because the food they turn out is pretty awesome. Please please train your front of house/waitressing staff to be better because it is them being better that will make the difference. Incidentally concentrating on the famous people in there (Sean Dyche tonight!) does not make up for not concentrating on us mere mortals!!! There is definitely a disparity between the kitchen (who seems excellent) and the restaurant staff (who need to up their game). I am not one to be awkward in a restaurant but I am one who expects great service at a restaurant that firstly sells themselves as a special destination venue and secondly one that pops 10% automatically on the bill for service!!!! We brought our friends for their first time tonight and sadly wasn’t what we hoped it would be (again). It’s a stunning venue, the food is amazing but please sort out the service because that’s going to make or break you! Also lose the ridiculousness of not accepting cash!!!!More

I've awarded 4 stars which marks up as Very Good as 3 stars is Average, which would be unfair. A very attractive restaurant serving good food but completely let down by the service. Our coats were taken and we were shown to our table. We...waited, and waited and waited for someone to ask if we would like a drink, a menu, anything..... a senior member of staff walked past our table twice to top up wine glasses at a neighbouring table. She finally noticed us trying to catch her attention, saw we had no menus or drinks and came over but didn't apologise. In fairness, she did bring us a card wishing us Happy Anniversary which was kind. We ordered a cocktail and our meals plus a bottle of wine. After a long wait our cocktails arrived. We each had a Blackberry Frappe, which were very good but perhaps served in the wrong glass as we both ended up with a lot of icing sugar on our faces. Our food was delightful, pine cured salmon and chicken liver parfait then both of us had the beef cheeks with perhaps the best mashed potato we've ever had. A cheeseboard and sticky toffee pudding to finish. Both of these were ok but nothing special. Something I really object to: supplements. Of the 7 main dishes, 3 were marked as such. To get back to the poor service. We were told by the waiter who brought our food that the waitress who had brought our cutlery and bread was refusing to pour us any wine. Astonishing. We ended up doing this ourselves. Presumably a confidence matter but certainly not what we would expect in a restaurant that markets itself as a Michelin restaurant. When our bill arrived we asked for the service charge to be removed. It was and we chose to tip the young man who, in our opinion, was the only member of the waiting staff who was actually doing his job. Would I return? To be honest I really don't know.More

I’ll be writing a longer review - so, if you don’t have time or don't want to read the whole thing, in short, this was one of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time and i highly recommend you visit. When...we arrived, we were greeted by a welcome host who took our coats and showed us to the bar area, while our table was being prepared. Our barman was a very nice chap who went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. Our drinks arrived promptly (a martini and the non-alcoholic sparking wine) and we had about 15-20 minutes before a member of the management team came over to inform us our table was ready. Our drinks were loaded onto a tray and we were shown to our table. Upon being seated, we were handed over to our waiter for the evening. We didn’t catch his name (young chap with dark hair), but he really did make our evening - for reasons I will explain later. We ordered the oysters to begin with, which arrived promptly and well presented. They were accompanied by Tabasco, lemon and mignonette (our waiter helpfully told us what this was!). To start, I ordered the beef tartare and my partner ordered the smoked salmon. As you will see from the pictures, both were very well presented and tasted even better. The only feedback I would have for my dish was the bowl the tartare was presented in made it quite challenging to access the food. It may have been better to present it on a plate similar to the salmon dish. To follow, I ordered the duck and my partner ordered the venison. Both dishes were presented brilliantly. The duck was cooked to perfection and was the perfect size. However, the venison blew my dish out of the water - it was excellent. The meat had been cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. We were sat at a table for two, which backed onto a private area, which was occupied by c.6 people who were particularly loud. The disturbance wasn’t enough to ruin our evening, but it was noticeable enough for us to be joking about the noise with our waiter earlier in the evening. So, once we had finished our mains, we were offered a quieter table on the other side of the restaurant, which we were very grateful for. Once we were sat down, a member of management came over and offered us some free drinks for after the meal, which was by no means necessary, but very much appreciated! It was touches like this throughout the evening that made the whole experience stand out for us. For dessert, I had the treacle tart and my partner had the chocolate mousse. Both were very nice, but they were not the stand out dishes of the evening. After we had finished our meals we were shown back through to the bar for our complementary drinks. We received two cocktails, which were a creation of one of the bar staff, who won a competition. He was also a really friendly and professional individual, who topped off an absolutely fantastic evening for us. Overall, we would recommend a visit to this restaurant in a heartbeat. A truly faultless evening - we can’t wait to go back!More

Where to start on what was the most amazing dining experience at Cleaver and Wake. On arrival, our coats were taken which was a nice touch and made us feel like we were somewhere posh. We were shown to our table which was a lovely...corner sofa with a full view of the restaurant and kitchen so could see our food being prepared. The front of house was really attentive and we liked her from the start. I explained that i was looking to try a new white wine to which she recommended a lovely bottle. We decided on the Pigeon and the beef for our starters which were both exceptional. Especially the pigeon. Our main courses were the fillet steak and the monkfish. The monkfish was the die for! So many flavours. I could eat it everyday! a side of perfectly cooked chips were ordered to accompany but to be honest, as nice as they were, weren't really needed as the rich flavours filled us up. After our mains, head chef, Hira Thakur came over to chat to us and ask us what we thought of the food which i thought was a lovely touch and really capped off a wonderful evening. We were going to call it quits but felt we couldn't not try a desert so shared the treacle tart. My word it was amazing and left us fighting over the crumbs!! Overall, a night to remember. The food, the service and restaurant itself is simply stunning and a must! Can't wait for our next visit. Thank you Hira and team for your hospitality. Thank you. Emily and RyanMore

Short Version: Lovely ambience, wonderful team, creative menu and a great all round experience. I would recommend if you want to have a treat/splurge night. Story Version: I used this venue to propose and booked a table a few weeks in advance. It has a...section on the booking page for any other requests, so I thought what's the worse that could happen, so I put in a request for Raspberry themed things and that I was proposing that night. Didn't hear anything back about after. Fast forward to the night and was greeted with a wonderful smile from the lady on the desk who took our coats and showed us through to the Dining area (we arrived about 10mins early). The dining space was really nice. I really liked the ambience of the place. It felt cosy yet upmarket. Less fancy showoff more subtle class. The water tumblers were pretty. For starters I had Beef tartare, which I've never had before... But it was nice. The flavour was surprisingly nicer than I thought it would be. For mains I had the Guinea Fowl which was good also. The potato! It was crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. Such a fun experience eating that. I had a mango cocktail to drink, which if you like more alcohol than fruit, then that's the one! In between the servings they came to collect the empties and even wiped down the table of crumbs. Impressed, indeed. One we had finished everything, we sat chatting and the host brought out two mini white chocolate raspberry balls. I was like... I didn't order that? Then it dawned on me... My request!!! My partner got so excited! I let her have both after explaining, I had prior communication with them and the raspberry was a special treat for her. After that I had to go into proposal mode (she said yes). Once the commotion died down a little bit, the host then brought out congratulatory wine for us with... a raspberry in it hahaha!! At that point, I'm just thinking... They are making me look too good!! Once again, my partner was so happy! Such attentive hosts with good timing. All in all, it was lovely experience and I would like to thank the host team and the kitchen for making this an extra special moment for us. Walking out to everyone saying congratulations was so lovely.More

I took my husband for his first day of retirement. Booked because two chefs I work with recommended ( maybe I was over expecting???) The restaurant is a lovely environment and the staff are great, the service was attentive but not over bearing , no...complaints there. Understandably , the lunch menu is limited. (£37.00) Our starter ( pate) was very tasty but tiny. The steak for mains (£12) extra was tasty but 7 chips.?? Cheese (£5 extra) was served with two large crackers and a slice/ slab of toasted bread which seemed ‘clumbersome’ for the ammount of cheese . So, £53 ( for 1) for a lunch that didn’t wow has put us off returning for an evening meal. I left hungry. Therefore £180 later which includes a couple of beers & wines each , we won’t be returning . Maybe it was our choice - steak and cheese doesn’t take that much man hours or talent and I get that food prices have increased but 7 chips ?? Again, I’ll say maybe it’s what we chose to order, but extremely overpriced for something that wasn’t exceptionalMore

After looking forward to coming here for so long I finally got a Sunday spare from my business to be able to come for the roast for a special celebration and travelled from Lincoln. On arrival our welcome was great. We sat in the bar...with a glass of champagne whilst we waited for our table. We were shown to our table which was lovely and we could watch the chefs cooking. We decided to go for three courses. Firstly the chicken parfait & pork belly. Opted for a bottle of wine which was bought over swiftly. The bread arrived 20 minutes later and our starters much later than we would have expected but not too much of a big deal. After over an hour having had a 2:30 reservation at 3:40 just having had starters we were eagerly awaiting our main course and watching lots of tables clear and leave. After such a long wait when it was finally served to us we were a little surprised to see the pork belly arrive in a different presentation that we had seen being served all afternoon and advertised on socials. No crackling etc - not cut from the roast we had seen being served. Two very well done carrots and two pieces of broccoli were the seasonal vegetables. We decided to go for the taste factor but we were gutted to find we could not even slice the pork - it was inedible. We called over a manager who said she couldn’t comment because she’s vegetarian but happily took the food away and handled it very professionally and took to the chef who said it would be rectified and said they would replace within 6-8 minutes. More time went on and the new dishes arrived. The pork to be fair was 1000% better and we could actually cut it with a knife. The cauliflower cheese was lovely. But the rest of it was really very average to be honest. I felt like they’d ran out of the pork and we were given whatever normal pork cut they have as a back up. Dessert was ok and served much quicker than the other courses. But over 3 hours spent we would have expected it for the £187 for two to have been much better. The waitress took off service as a gesture but we left service because the actual staff were not the issue. Wouldn’t rush back.More
