Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Abysmally slow service. Cappuccino was OK and that's being generous. It was hot. Almond croissant was dry with virtually no filling. The two serving staff each put down a cappuccino at virtually the same time for different customers - one looked OK, had a frothy...head and filled the cup but the other barely filled the cup and had virtually no frothy head. Cafe looked clean. Certainly wouldn't be rushing back and wouldn't recommend it.More

We had no intension of eating here, but planned only to have a cold drink. When I saw the cold counter we decided to have lunch. We served ourselves and shared smoked salmon on bread and a pulled ham roll. Both were generously filled, tasty...and freshly prepared . They came with a side of a portion of crisps and a pot of salad. I was advised of this by the lady at the till. Oh, and the drinks; a bottle of elderflower presse and a bottle of cold, dry cider. I was a very pleasant lunch in contrast to a poor lunch in on of the town's pubs.More

Possibly the poorest organised cafe I have ever been too. Only one till open and no way for a customer who only needs a coffee to queue other than through the food queue. At the till point the time taken to make drinks is the...biggest issue. There are plenty of colleagues about but they chat amongst themselves, are not organised and do not have the right equipment. The milk jugs used to heat milk for coffee are small so Bly one coffee at a time is made. Colleagues we saw only made one coffee at a time too. If they had larger heating jugs then the process would be much quicker both for customer and colleague…just one example where a small change could make a massive difference. This is made apparent by the number of people queuing being over thirty on our visit but plenty of empty tables when you finally did get served.More

The cafe is not cheap, but then where is these days! We enjoyed coffee and cake, the cake was a decent size but the coffee although nice is served in cheap cups- like the ones in a premier inn. What is nice is the atmosphere,...there are loads of wooden tables surrounded by lots of plants and a lovely cottage effect. Relaxing for an afternoon break. The garden centre is full of lovely home decorations, garden furniture and clothes, unfortunately very pricey.More

Been many times before so treated myself to a coffee and a pain au raisin . Well the pain au raisin I must say this time was really awful, heavy , soggy , tough , cold , stale , Not light and flaky , in...fact I would not be surprised if it was yesterday’s! Honestly I could have had a far better one from lidl ! last time it was good so very inconsistent ! coffee ok but not great and at nearly £8 for both I shall, definitely think twice next time ! Thinking b about it I should have complained but not always easy when there’s a lot of people waiting. Come on BGC , you are really letting yourself down here and looking at the recent reviews as well it’s not just me ! Much better places for food !More

I've been a regular visitor to the Burford Garden Co. for around 20 years, as I live nearby. I think the cafe lets it down to be honest. The quality of the coffee is absolutely terrible as it's out of those awful press button machines....Why they don't upgrade to proper barrista coffee I'll never know. Also the staff in my opinion have always been miserable. The weekend/holiday students are surly and feel they are above working in a cafe (well, get another job then) and you almost feel like apologising if you need to complain about the coffee or dry cakes. I know they deal with large numbers of visitors but it is bad even at quieter times. I prefer now, to go to Lynwoods in Burford for a decent cup of coffee, even when I shop at BGC. They need to up their customer service/attitude and coffee because it ain't cheap.More

Visited here today Sunday 24th of March with my son . We fancied a coffee and cake while having a bimble around. I was very disappointed at the lack of choice on the gluten free front , choices were brownie or cornbread 😕 really poor...considering you say that you cater for allergens and dietary requirements. If that's catering for them , more imagination is needed ...More

My husband and I popped in for breakfast today and were massively disappointed with the food and the service. We chose a Burford breakfast priced at 12.95, porridge and 2 pots of English breakfast tea, at over £3 per small pot The wait was long...and when it arrived, the tea was so super weak it was undrinkable. We mentioned this to the waiter, who we assumed was a senior team member/manager. Instead of apologising etc, he grumpily huffed and simply said " what tea is it?" And stalked off with the weak pots. My husband went to the counter to collect the new pots and the man did eventually apologise. The Burford breakfast was a huge let down, cold bacon, cold beans, undercooked eggs, tomatoes so tough we couldn't even cut them with a knife! The toast was stone cold too. The porridge was OK. We decided to give up with the cooked breakfast and simply order toast, we didn't want to complain further! This took more than 25 minutes to arrive and the cafe was not remotely busy! We finally gave up, asked for a refund on the toast and the lady on the till said she was surprised at our experience. We had checked Trip Advisor whilst waiting for the toast to arrive, so knew the reviews they have been left for the last year or more, we pointed out to the lady that based on the reviews she should not be surprised... she replied that Trip Advisor is not an accurate representation of the business.... we however strongly disagree and will not be returning! The rest of the garden centre is a delight to visit, but avoid the cafe.More

Cake and pot of tea was nice although tea was a little weak. Coffee small for the price. It’s a weird system as you collect your tea/coffee and cake and then have to queue behind people ordering food. Lots of people waiting to pay for...food they had on their trays which must have been going cold. Also restaurant prices for food kept warm under the lights? Underwhelming…More

Visited for a quick spot of lunch on Mother’s Day and found the choices for food a bit too fancy and overpriced. We all opted for the soup and discovered the Leek and Potato soup to be tasteless and not enjoyable at all.

For such an amazing garden centre (we’ve never seen a grand piano and pianist playing in the middle of one), the actual cafe was very bland with cakes that were on the turn and coffee that was easily forgettable.

Been here a few times in recent times but after the breakfast we had we felt it’s not the best. The big breakfast at £12.50 is what we both had and was t worth that tbh. The toast was cold as were the mushrooms, the...sausages were warm and not that good. A real disappointed as the food was always decent but there’s something obviously not right.More

Always visit the Cafe when we go to Burford. Wondered today why the teapots were small which gave 1 cup only. Usually get 3 cups out of large pot for my money.

I used to love coming here and lived nearby. Now I am an hour away I made a special journey to do some early Christmas shopping. That didn’t happen. Dogs are not allowed. I didn’t think to check as to be honest even Anthropologie and...John Lewis in Cheltenham accept dogs. Also most restaurants have a separate area ( if at all needed). So the dog stayed in the car whilst I had a loo break and quick coffee. Didn’t shop. Very behind the time and the cafe is now tired and dated. Coffee from a machine too ( yuk!) not a good experience at all.More
