Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely scrumptious Christmas meal. Every dish was top quality, and decent portions too which was a massive relief! The service was also outstanding. Definitely planning to go again next year as we were so impressed.

We went as a party of five for our Christmas lunch. The food was really tasty, the pub is really cosy, and the waitresses were really lovely - generally a great afternoon. Nonetheless, one of our party had to drop out on the day from...sickness and, as informed by a rather brusque chap in charge, they have a really strange 'policy' where they insist on cooking and serving all three of the missing person's courses anyway, and then charging full price to watch it go to waste... Literally the most bizarre arrangement I've come across in a restaurant - whatever happened to the old no-show-and-lose-your-deposit? We thought about taking it outside for a charitable donation of course, but alas there were no starving people on the streets of Jerico.More

My first time at the Royal Oak .What a beautiful pub. Decided to have Sunday lunch Roast beef and all the trimmings. What a meal absolutely lovely. We even asked more extra Gravy and Mint sauce. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a great...host Paula who looked after us. We will definitely be backMore

A creaky old pub with plenty of seating and decent beer selection as well as some surprisingly good food, The Royal Oak is a good choice for old mates as well as business associates you'd like to become your mates.

The vegan burgers here are absolutely delicious! They really do taste like the real deal and have a lovely smoky chargrilled flavour to them. The burger sauce was bursting with flavour too - zingy! Great to know that somewhere in Oxford does a decent vegan...burger! They are happy to add dairy cheese too (if you’re vegetarian) Will be back again, and again.More

Visited for a family catch up - we haven’t seen each other since Christmas and as always the food was on point. Staff were busy but happy and helpful and the food was delicious. We had a sharing board that had all the meats loads...of potatoes veg Yorkshire puds and was simply amazing and good value for money. Could not fault the food or service.More

Im not one to usual complain and the basis of this complaint is the service and treatment of staff members that was witnessed. My partner walked into your pub today for some food & drinks with friends and quite frankly we were not impressed at...all. The gentleman behind the bar said to us that it was around a 45 minute wait on food as it was busyish but seemed rather long. Anyway we decided to order and enjoy a drink before our food. An hour passed and still no starters. We spoke to our hostess, Paula who was lovely and apologised for the delay and did her best to find out where they were. When she went to check how much longer our food would be I can only describe it as she was barked at and swore at by the lady who appeared to be in charge of running the kitchen. We were sat on table 31 which was directly outside the kitchen door reaulting in us hearing the flurry of awful language toward Paula, the language was atrocious and made us feel uncomfortable, embarrased and genuinely sorry for Paula. For a staff member who was just checking the time on our food to receive the reaponse she did was not acceptable or appropriate on any level. The table opposite to us could also hear constant outbursts from the kitchen at the staff going in with the young looking waitress looking almost scared to go in and upset. This is not something my wife nor I was expecting at all and was an embarrassment for everyone and your company. We had recommended this place to our friends which we felt we needed to appologise for as the entire experience was disgusting. We were going to bring our grandchildren which I am now glad we didnt as what we witnessed was not an environment friendly for anyone let alone chilfren. We decided to leave as we had seen and heard enough, upon leaving and explaining the situation to the man behind the bar, he did give us a full refund and apologised for the entire ordeal we had suffered. We shall not be returning in a hurry and after such a wonderful make over of the place it’s a real shame. I do hope Paula finds a job where she is valued and appreciated along with I'm sure many of the other other team members there. Would not recommend!!!More

We booked a table for lunch and checked it was ok to bring our small dog. We were all made v welcome., especially the dog by being offered water and treats. A great menu with some things a bit different to standard nice-pub-menus. We’d great...food and drinks. Everything came quickly and staff were pleasant and attentive. It’s a lovely old building too, with lots of books and crannies. Will definitely go again.More

Visited as part of a department lunch. A couple of weeks a go I had been invited to the re-opening event so was really excited to see the new menu in action. It took an hour and 10 mins for food to arrive, by that...time everyone on my table (10+ had finished and were packing up), no- one had warned about a delay, it took me going to the bar after an hour to enquire if everything was ok. When my food (steak sandwich) arrived it was inedible- the steak was the toughest I’ve ever had- resembling (you’ve guessed from the title)- old boots. Normally I’d have sent it back and left but with a meeting (which I was late for as the food took so long) I ate the bread and overly salted fries… We use this pub as a family quite a lot and this is the first time I’ve had anything close a terrible experience- appreciate it was a little busy but with no communication about wait times and poor food it was incredibly disheartening…More
