Based in Oxford, Lula's Ethiopian and Eritrean Cuisine proudly serve authentic Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine, with a wide selection of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available. Lula’s is a family-owned food business and everything is freshly cooked from scratch, using natural ingredients. We are all about bringing people and community together, exactly as Ethiopian tradition would have it – our food is cooked with the love and care we would show to our family, and our customers are not just customers, they are friends. The most important thing to us is bringing happiness to people with our food (and yes, that includes making sure every bite tastes amazing)!

Lula’s Ethiopian feasts always hit the spot. They are authentic, beautifully spiced and utterly delicious every time. We’re regulars and even my 9 and 4 year old enjoy the delicately spiced lentils, vegetable dishes and injera all served with a smile by Lula herself. Our Oxford favourite. You won’t be disappointed.

Excellent food, loved the very warm and friendly welcome. Matt and his mum Lula welcome you to their restaurant but it feels as if they welcome you to their home.
The food is tasty, colourful they are happy to give you advice, portions are very generous, great value for money.
Loved the carrot cake and the spicy tea too.
Thank you Matt and Lula, we’ll come back.

I have been a regular customer at Lula's stall at Gloucester Green market, for some years now. The traditional zigni and doro stews, with their depth of flavour, are far tastier, to me, than Asian curries, and the vegetarian dishes are great too. Sometimes there's even injera bread available, to remind me of my travels in Ethiopia and Eritrea. During our various lockdowns, it has been great to know that l can still order my favourite dishes, to be delivered to my door with a smile! If l haven't done so more frequently, it's only because I lack freezer space, and can't invite friends round to share a meal... I'm really looking forward to when the market stall can re-open once again.

Location: A short walk from the centre and close to the station - easy to get to
Venue: Spotlessly clean, warm, fresh and the background music was relaxing and conducive to having conversations rather than shouting over it.
Food and drink: Oh my word, just delicious - it was a real melt in the mouth meal, loads of depth on the spice but without overpowering the flavours of the veg and meat. We ordered the Spicy Chicken, Lam Zigni, Injera, Gomen, Fosolia and Rice with drinks. We were so full and couldn't finish the meal even though it was beautiful.
Host: And this is the cherry on the top of the cake, Lula and her son were charming, attentive and warm without crowding us. We just loved hearing about how she launched the restaurant and found them both generous hosts.
Thank you for a new food experience and a wonderful evening.

Absolutely fantastic!! This was our 1st time here and we came for an early Saturday evening meal to celebrate my birthday. I've long loved Ethiopian food but it is so difficult to find. To have this place open in Oxford feels like a true blessing!
We had the vegetable sharing platter, which was incidentally fully vegan too, and every dish that came as part of it was beautiful. So much flavour, wonderful textures and almost unbearably moreish!! So much so in fact, that despite it being very filling, we actually ordered 2 extra dishes!
The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming and the hosts, Lula and Matt, were brilliant. Warm, friendly, helpful and a real joy to be around.

We placed a bulk order for an office lunch with Lula's. They were really accommodating with our requests including individually packaging the meals.
We had two meal combos - the yellow split pea and gomen, and the red lentils and fosolia, both with rice.
Portion sizes were great and the food was really tasty!
Thanks for catering for us - we wish you all the best with your new premises on Park End Street!

Lula's has become one of our family favorites. We love the injera, red lentils, shiro and zigni. We have ordered from them at Tap Social, in Oxford and used the delivery service during lockdown. Great food and great service everytime.

I have known Lula's Ethiopian since she had a stall at the Gloucester Green Market, preparing freshly made, lovely food - the definition of homemade comfort food which is also healthy and nutritious. Now whenever I want to take my friends to a place where the atmosphere is homely and the food is delicious, this is where I head. You will feel like you came to auntie Lula's for a visit and she just wants to give you all the best things to eat! Their new space in the Community Works is welcoming and casual, giving off family warmth and the feeling of comfort. The food options are traditional Ethiopian Cuisine, including injeera, fosolia, habesha hamli, gomen, shiro, lentils. There are vegan options but also meats like lamb and chicken, cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavour. You can get Ethiopian beer and tea, too. There's really nothing not to love, and the hospitality is exceptional. Lula and her family truly created something special here, and I'm always back!

Matthew’s mum in the kitchen and Matthew as maitre d’ are obviously 100% invested in the success of their restaurant and in the satisfaction of their guests. The decor is unobtrusively arty and urban, but the food is in your face homely and comforting. Spicy and flavourful and good sized portions but not so massive that you can’t move at the end of the meal. Would definitely revisit next time we are in Oxford.

You might expect only take away and fast food across from the bus/train station, but not so! Do yourself a favor arriving in Oxford after your journey and eat at Lula’s. You will be met by smiling faces, a peaceful environment, and delicious (if spicy!) food before you head into the city. I’m so glad Lula’s is here.

Really great, delicious food from Lula. We had the spicy chicken with carrot and beans cooked in garlic, ginger and turmeric. The chicken had a real kick and I cannot get enough of the injera (large spongy pancake that you scoop the food up with. We washed it down with spiced Ethiopian tea which was a great accompaniment.
Service is great, the place is scrupulously clean and the food comes quickly. Best of all (for us) everything is gluten free, even the injera. Highly, highly recommended.

I took my wife out to this lovely restaurant after my friend recommended it. I had high expectations but this place easily surpassed them. I can not praise the staff enough. From the moment me and my wife walked in we were greeted very warmly and felt very welcome through out the meal. I listened contently as my waiter Matt beamed with obvious pride over his family establishment. Taking time to explain all the dishes and the honey wine. Just a lovely man. The owner brought our food over and she was just as lovely. The food was amazing, we had a sharing platter with spicy chicken served on enjeera it was awesome and really fun to share. The coffee was extremely good. The tea was awesome too. I really admire the time and effort that the owners put into this place. 5 star. Thank you Lula and thank you Matt for a lovely night. Mike

My stepson has recently began living and working in Oxford and on our first night of visiting him in his new home, came here for a meal. We have eaten Ethiopian food at a restaurant in Berlin and had an idea of what it would be like. Or we thought we did. This surpassed our expectations and we all absolutely loved the food and the warm service. We had a sharing platter (which is ideally for 2 people) and were advised to order another main as it was for 3 of us. It was definitely plenty food for the 3 of us. It was all very flavoursome and just sort of made us smile... and isn't that what food as a family is all about, bringing joy! I wpuld recemmend this restaurant wholeheartedly and my stepson is keen to make return visits while he remains in Oxford.

While planning a trip to Oxford, I searched for restaurants near our hotel, and was intrigued by this one - decided to give it a try. Had a wonderful experience - menu explained clearly and concisely, with really helpful suggestions on what to order, and sharing menu organised to cater for one vegetarian and one meat-eater. Food was absolutely lovely, as were the people serving and cooking. Can thoroughly recommend, and will certainly go again next time we're in the area.

Very pleased to report that Lula's is still excellent! This is easily our favourite restaurant and it's such a treat to come here. We had the vegetable gold sharing platter again and it was SO good that, once again, we ordered extra dishes.... the Shiro in particular was exquisite.
