I came here with my cousin who had been raving about this place for months. As a grad student here he often looks for places that meet the quality bar without breaking the bank. Jee Saheb is a terrific Indian restaurant with a kitchen that also likes to include Bangladeshi, Pakistani, NW frontier and Parsee/Persian inspired dishes among the standard Indian crowdpleasers (eg chicken korma and so on). We came with two others and hadn't called ahead to make a booking so felt lucky to get a comfortable table for 4 at 7:30 on a Saturday night placed far from the draft by the front door. By 8pm the place was packed. Noise levels were pleasant. This is not one of those places that become unbearably loud when full. Very good service. We were promptly offered drinks and papadums - arrived in what felt like seconds with a mix of chutneys of varying spice intensity. Hit the spot. It was literally 0 degrees outside this evening and the spice was very welcome. Only one of us was drinking and he got a Cobra beer. I got the lamb shaktora (a Bangladeshi dish using shaktora a small lemon found in the area of Sylhet in Bangladesh) which was absolutely delicious. If you've never seen this before on a menu, give it a try. My cousin got his usual lamb chops with spinach and chickpeas, also seasoned really well and a popular item for takeaway. I found the spice levels of the mains fairly mild but still flavorful. Another one of us got a chicken dish in a sauce with blended almonds, pistachios and a bit of cardamon - gentle and fragrant. Ideal for people who are timid about Indian food. We ordered one rice side and a few of the breads - a garlic naan, a chapati and a roti. The chapati and roti were good but the garlic naan was excellent. We also got a vegetable biryani which came with a vegetable curry that was disappointingly bland. We ordered a side of dal hoping it would add a bit more flavor but found it similarly insipid and had to ask the waiter for some salt to give it a bit of life. Fortunately we had plenty of good stuff between the two lambs and the chicken. If we were to go back we decided we would next try the minced lamb curry, the chicken handi and vegetable sabzi, as well as one of the tandoori dishes. We were a bit too full for dessert. The bill for 4 with service came to about 82 pounds. Jee Saheb is a place we'd happily visit again on a future trip to Oxford. A great place to try a range of dishes but beware of the occasionally bland item and let them know if you can take on a bit of spice.

We had a great time here. Group of 8, so a fairly big booking, but they were able to fit us in on the same day we called! Then I had to change the number of people, and after that, push the time back. The people who work here couldnt have been friendly or more accommodating even though I was making last minute changes that probably weren’t ideal! We ordered a big mix of dishes, all of which came out at the same time and piping hot, which you don’t always see nowadays, so that was lovely. The food was nice, but next time I’ll have to remember to ask for no extra / fresh coriander (though that’s just my taste). Portion sizes were decent! We had a lot of fun and will be back.

Been going to Jee Sahib for years. The food is really well cooked, there are good options for non-meat eaters and some interesting fish dishes. The dhal and garlic naans are perfection. The wine list is very reasonable and impressive. And the staff are lovely.

Went there before Covid when it was good. Went again a few weeks ago and it wasn’t. Given the other reviews maybe we picked the wrong night, but both food and service was poor. There are far better Indian restaurants. On the positive side the atmosphere was good, the restaurant was buzzing. Pleasant interior. The menu looked really interesting. The starter and drinks were good . But that was it . Whilst the order was taken relatively quickly we then waited for over an hour for the main course. Meanwhile we could see that the Deliveroo and other drivers were going in and out from the kitchen ( via a different entrance) with bags full of takeaways. They seem to prioritise take away over restaurant customers, we weren’t the only ones with a long wait. The kitchen seemed clearly overwhelmed. There was no explanation or saying sorry for the wait. When the food came it was at best mediocre. He was missing the chillies that should have been in the dish and mine was tasteless. It was supposed to be mild, but not flavourless. On top of that our waiter was surly, though what seemed to be the manager was pleasant. We won’t be rushing back.

I ordered a delivery from this place as I'd never tried it before and the menu looked interesting. There are so many excellent Indian restaurants in Oxford I felt like trying a new one. I waited an hour and a half before eventually phoning the restaurant. The man I spoke to said he'd go and find out what was happening (no apology) after a few mins a different man came on the phone and wanted all my details again! (seemingly the first guy had not bothered to pass any of this on). So he then went off to the kitchen to see what was happening. After a few minutes he then told me the food had left the restaurant, but it then took another half hour to arrive (and the restaurant is only 1.5 miles away!). The food was very poor - watery and tasteless. One dish consisted mostly of undercooked chickpeas with a hard-boiled egg. And the mattar paneer was awful. I shall not bother again - I'll stick to Jamona which is always excellent.

The main course was tasty but I ordered lamb samosas for the starter and it was the smallest portion I think I have ever received in a restaurant. They charged £6 for two tiny samosas that were little more than a couple of mouthfuls each. I felt cheated to be honest. The main was better but it felt opportunistic to serve such a small starter.

Fabulous food. The tastiest Indian food I’ve eaten for a long time. My chicken biryani was absolutely delicious, I chose it because it was, unusually, accompanied by dahl, rather than a vegetable curry. My vegetarian family loved their paneer shashlik and chick pea curries. Service was attentive but not overbearing.

Delicious food and fabulous service! We went to Jee Saheb after a recommendation from friends and it did not disappoint! We had delicious curries, all amazing, the butter chicken, chicken handi lazeez and the jalfrezi were particularly tasty! Perfect meal, thank you!

Ordered a takeaway. Good mix of options on the menu, classics combined with a few less common dishes. Curry arrived quickly and piping hot. Lamb dupiaza was delicious, as was the onion bhaji starter. All the little details (rice, naan) were perfect. There’s lots of choice for Indian food in Oxford, this place is easily as good as any of the other I’ve tried!

I went there pre-Covid and to be honest with wasn’t bad food. Post Covid, however, standards have dropped dramatically. Food was verging on inedible. It would be one star if I hadn’t previously experienced a far more pleasant meal here.

Visited for a quick dinner for one whilst my partner was away. Excellent personal service and tasty food. The best onion bhaji based starter I’ve ever had and a main course of an equally high standard. Well worth a visit.

Picked this place in a fairly random manner as it was close to the hotel where we were staying for a couple of nights. Booked it in the morning online and received confirmation fairly soon after. When we arrived we were immediately greeted and shown to our table. The place has a quiet ambience (for a Tuesday evening) and most tables were occupied. We ordered and food arrived promptly with everything being explained. The food was full of flavour and very enjoyable. Service throughout was polite and prompt without being pushy. In all, this is what every.meal out should be. My thanks to all staff.

Lovely little restaurant, possibly the best Indian food I have ever had. Extremely friendly service, and super safe for people on a gluten free diet. Will be back every time I am in Oxford.

Returned to this restaurant after decades!! Food amazing. Staff really welcoming and friendly. However the stair case to toilets and the toilets in great need of attention. Shabby . The toilet seat in the ladies loo was not fixed so slid when you sat on it!! I think if these could be sorted this would become very popular venue in Oxford.
