The menu looked so delicious we chose to ask the restaurant to surprise us, Which is a menu option, but include the aubergine dish. We got salt & pepper squid, which was probably the best I’ve ever had. Seaweed duck roll, crispy chicken, god mother’s lamb, all delicious, as well as the aubergine dish which was fantastic- really retaining the sweet delicate taste of the aubergine. Service was faultless, we were welcomed even though we went in really early at 16:45.

Don't let the outdoor appearance of the place put you off. This is truly a hidden gem in Oxford. Counting with 3 chefs (Malaysian, Singaporean and Chinese) this place can surprise you with truly authentic flavours from those regions of Asia.
We opted to try a bit of each cuisine (Malay satay skewers, Chinese dumplings, Malay tofu, Singaporean butter prawns, Malay beef, squid...) and everything was excellent, with flavours reminding me of my travels in those regions.
We finished it all up with a Malay desert (Gula Melaka tapioca), which was a lovely discovery.
The place is pricy compared to your average dinner in Oxford, but if you want to celebrate something special and a bit different it's totally recommended.

We are in Oxford for a couple of nights and went to Zheng as it provides a halal menu. We were seated promptly and had a lovely, attentive waitress. My family ordered soft drinks and I had a passion fruit juice.
For starters we had chicken and lamb satay sticks and I ordered the chicken and sweetcorn soup which was perfect- it was a little too filling for me. I also had a little of the lamb satay and it was so tender and flavoursome.
For mains my husband ordered godmothers chilli which he said was exceptional. I ordered a prawn satay dish which contained nuts with egg fried rice. Both were lovely.
We ordered a chicken stir fry for the children as they can be fussy. This was made with thinner rice noodles which they aren’t accustomed to but really enjoyed their meal. My youngest even said that these were the best noodles he has ever had!
It was a lovely atmosphere and waiting staff were pleasant too!

This has been on my list of places to try for a while, so with the EOTHO scheme, we thought we would take advantage. Firstly the atmosphere is really strange, its trying to be formal but comes across cheap looking. Despite only ordering 4 very simple dishes, they forgot one. We mentioned this twice yet didn't receive an apology (or our dish). The tofu dish we ordered had egg in (very unnecessary) so please be careful if you have an allergy and/or are vegan. We asked for the service to be removed from our bill and he was clearly very unhappy. I won't be in any hurry to return.

The takeaway prices on Zheng's Web site look very expensive, but we went ahead and ordered because we wanted a special meal to help lift the corona virus gloom. They actually charged more than the prices on their Web site! Plus the food was barely warm and actually not very good. We'll stick to the Cowley Road takeaways until Chiang Mai gets its act together to do deliveries.

Came here with my wife for dinner after hearing good things.
Restaurant is fairly dated and small at the end of Jericho. We had 6 dishes and it was 50/50 with the chai po tofu and butter prawns being very good. The sambal dishes tasted like it was from a Yeo's bottle and the satay (both beef and chicken) were very disappointing for an authentic Malaysian restaurant. Nasi lemak was decent but a whopping 14 quid.
Everything came to about 80quid which we thought was very very expensive especially in Oxford considering the old shabby decor and hit and miss food.

We ordered dinner from Zhang for my birthday and it was the right choice! Not only was the food great but they also send me a card and some wine for my birthday... really nice touch
We went for a selection of their extensive menu and every single dish was wonderful, from the dumplings to the chicken with peanuts beef and Singapore noodles.
We ordered 10 dishes and each and every one of them was great!
Highly recommended!

I ordered through deliverroo ( i had no other choice) 3 small tubs were dropped on my door step with a phone call (door bell was not pressed) £40 for 3 little tubs, no crackers, no menu insert even just small portions of overpriced food. The food itself was plain, nothing tasty, not bad just plain and bland.
Never again

I was somewhat amazed we managed to get a table outside of here on a Friday night, but sometimes you get lucky. I can always rely on Zheng to be delicious and provide an impossible variety of choices on the menu. On this visit, they weren't quite at their best as the portions were rather small, they forgot part of our order, and the meat was overcooked (if still tasty).

We visited in the evening on 11 of June. Firstly it is a nightmare to find parking as all of the surrounding areas are resident permit only and there is no car park.
We were served by a slightly older and balding gentleman ( no name badge so have to use description). He could not come across more unenthusiastic even if he'd tried. Did not bother writing down the order and was very abrupt in his manner. We ordered starter, drinks and 2 mains. Our drinks arrived within minutes but the starters appeared in shifts! The first started came after 20 minutes and we had to wait 50 minutes for the second starter. In the meanwhile my plate was replaced but my husband was left without a plate. There were no apologies or explanations about the delay.
The second starter of prawn and chive dumplings arrived and was mediocre. The condiments for the dumplings arrived after we had finished the dumplings. Again without any apologies; other customers who arrived after us got their food before us. By this time we had been waiting for an hour and 15 minutes and decided neither the service nor the food was up to standard and decided to leave. Again no apologies or explanations offered by our server. We left quite disappointed and hungry. I would not recommend this place to any one and would have not even given a 1 for service had there been a option.

disappointed with the fried rice. not asking for a fancy, michelin-starred dish but at least decent. it was really tasteless. the satay chicken was not the traditional malaysian satay chicken. squid with salt in the appetiser was good, then again, char kway teow was just mediocre. i can vouch that the fried rice was really bland but the other dishes might just not be to our likings as the restaurant is always fully booked and it was full house that night. staff were friendly, helpful and the reservation process was really smooth and the staff was attentive enough to our reservation requests.

We came here from a bit further away as we’d understood this to be the best Chinese in oxford. That’s a big claim and I must admit it was average. Service was slow. We waited a long while on a quiet evening for drinks and no one asked if we wanted more drinks during our meal so they missed out on more money.
The duck starter was good, dim sum average and the mains - sweet and sour chicken, boneless chicken and cashew (way too hot!) and mango chicken (greasy).
We left disappointed unfortunately as it would’ve been great to have a new place to go to.

We've been here a few times before & my father chose it for his 102nd birthday family lunch.
It was excellent as usual. The staff were friendly & attentive. We had a wide variety of starters to share, including oyster omelette, papaya salad, salt & pepper tofu, 2 types of steamed prawn dumplings - all delicious & not a scrap left!
Main course portions were more than adequate. We had char kway teow, nasi lemak, beef rendang tok, chicken rendang, kangkong with belachan, spicy aubergine, all delicious! We had a vegan with us & she was very happy with her tofu bento box.
Already looking forward to going back. It's worth hunting down even though it's not right in the middle of Oxford.

I came here for a quick lunch whilst in Oxford. The Malaysian dishes on the menu are quite extensive and there are additional dishes on the Sunday afternoon when I was there such as laksa and prawn noodle. I ordered the fried kuay teow which was well cooked and came with a nice sambal dip. A good choice for malaysian food when in Oxford. The decor of this place is more humble and cosy compared to their branch in south kensington.

We ordered the mixed platter and 1/4 duck to start (stand out item was the prawn toast). Our mains we're Chicken in Mango Sauce (crispy and delicious but maybe needed more sauce), Godmother's Chilli Chicken (exactly as it says), Nasi Lemak (spicy and full of flavour) and Beef Rendang (fall apart delicious). Portions were generous and good quality.
