Many years since I've been to Browns - don't think I'll rush back. Despite having booked we had to wait as the table wasn't ready so ended up standing in the bar area. Service was pretty hit or miss, took ages to come to take...More

We enjoyed the Browns buzz and tucked into excellent food (Beef and Ale pie) a nice glass of Merlot and friendly efficient service. As ever, a safe choice.

Browns was the answer. We all wanted different things... I wanted just tea and something light (delicious), daughter (vegan) proper food (delicious too) and boyfriend then arrived so moved tables and further orders. All done by lovely cheerful staff. Perfect !More

their menu is diverse, prices reasonable and food very well presented and tasty. Service is excellent and the location is perfect. We do eat early, so that might help.

A busy Sunday lunchtime. Our mains didn't all came out together from the kitchen and sadly looked like they'd been sitting under a heat lamp a bit too long, but tasted OK. Desserts were good. Service was acceptable, if a little unattentive at times, but...More

Description
Browns Oxford, set near the centre of ‘that sweet city with her dreaming spires’, was the second branch of Browns to open. It has become a landmark in the city, an institution not quite as ancient as the university’s world-famous colleges, but one which has nonetheless stood the test of time. For many years the building was a Morris garage, which we converted into one of the first of its kind: an English brasserie. And the scene out of the windows is also pure England: across the road is the church of St Giles, the church hall and a characterful terrace of 18th century houses. But we’re also just a 5 minute walk away from the busy centre of the city.
