Last visited The Chester Arms a few years ago and though tonights food was delicious the quantity of meat to chips was not great. Last time there was a good pile of steak on the platter. Was also sadly quite salty. So great tasting food...but ...More

Fabulous pub. Fabulous food. I'm a meat lover but had a great broccoli and Stilton pie. The staff were fery welcoming and didn't mind us playing a noisy card game with our kids. I'll be back.

Taken here by our son and his girlfriend for an evening meal on a day out to Oxford. We hadn't booked and the restaurant was very busy so had to wait for a table, but sitting in the garden having a pre-dinner drink was no...hardship. It wasn't long before we were allocated a table and the order came more quickly than we expected. Nice starter of bread and dips, followed by the steak platter and a selection of desserts to finish and they were all very tasty. Despite being busy the staff were very attentive and friendly. Will look forward to a future visit.More

I hate to do this as I completely understand the industry is struggling but we went to the pub about 1.45 on a Saturday afternoon with 4 young children (2 adults). The manageress met us and told us there were no seats indoors so we...sat outside. We ordered food about 2.00 (they claim the kitchen did not receive ticket until 2.13). We were promptly asked to pay but by 2.45 no food had arrived. We asked and were told we were 2nd in queue and it would be 10 mins. We waited 10 mins and no food, We asked another waiter who disappeared and then came back to say it would be another 15 minutes. We asked to see the manager(ess) and waited but nobody came out. We then had to find her. We explained if they had told us there would be a delay on coming in that would have been fine (or on ordering, or at any point whilst waiting). I told the manageress what her staff had told us to which she replied she couldn't be responsible for everything they said. I told her she could, it's her business. In the end we left without getting fed.More

After reading some of the more recent reviews, we were a little nervous going to this restaurant, despite previous positive experiences. However, we could not have been more pleased that we stuck to plan. The steak platter was as good as ever (divine), and the...staff were an absolute delight. We also had a delicious starter and pudding, and, all in all, had a wonderful evening here. Could not recommend it more if you are wanting a steak in Oxford.More

Visited the Chester last night and easily found a table outside. Went inside to order but was told it was table service only which is perfectly fine. Waitstaff came out and took our order (2 pints and some peanuts). Long story short - we didn’t...get our beers after waiting 35 minutes. We were told they were coming, then they didn’t and after asking again we were told our “ticket” would be another 10 minutes….for two pints! As we were leaving we were told one of the bartenders was being trained. I’ve come to the Chester three times in the last year. The other two times they were 1) randomly shut and 2) not serving food outside because it may rain (didn’t rain). I want to love this place but it is easily the MOST POORLY RUN PUB IN OXFORD and couldn’t care less about its patrons or locals.More

We came here twice when we were staying in Oxford. The garden is great, despite not being large or grassy it’s a great, vibrant environment. Not much food choice at all but it tastes great and generous portions. Only downside is service was a little...slow - we had to wait a while from finishing a drink to being able to order another each time, probably just because they were busy but an order app would really help. Overall though I would definitely return and definitely recommend.More

As I understand it they only serve medium rare or rare for the platter. Obviously it’s always worth asking still. Hope you enjoy
