Just visited the Monks Retreat since their recent refurbishment, having visited regularly for a number of years, and I have to say I was disappointed. The environment was better, clean and brighter than before, with the hanging monk no longer in residence. However overall I...More

First time in here after the refurbishment. Fortunately the good staff are still here. I Liked the new seating arrangement. Looks more spacious , brighter colours & light is more effective. Nearly every table is provided with a screen to watch Sky / BT Sports.......More

As you go through the door from friar st., which has an outdoor table area, the disabled loos stare at you on the right. Upstairs staff are keen, occasionally slow, to notice you might need a drink or snack. The manager with the beard is...More

Very small decor changes, but changed from being a popular Wetherspoons house to Kings Feast with very little fuss or rebranding. Many will not even notice, and it was only the different free-wifi provider that alerted me. The beer range includes cask ales, with guests,...More

Visited Saturday lunch time and because it was so good came back Sunday lunch time. Had food and and bottle of house wine which was really nice. Food was good, better than Weatherspoons and cheaper than weatherspoons. They also do a Sunday roast here. Although...More

We came here two years ago. We were visiting Reading again, so decided to come here for breakfast. Shock horror, it is not a Wetherspoons anymore, well actually, the full English breakfast was a few pence cheaper so no complaint. Just two little ones. Julie...More

Its just like a weather spoons but a lot smaller ,. friendly staff and nice beers. I like all beers are the same price , so you can choose what you really want drink and not just go for the cheapest.

This pub was one of the first Wetherspoon establishments to open outside of London and celebrated trading for 20 years in May 2014. Open from 7am daily for breakfast & coffee with a front garden area to make the most of the British weather. We have been awarded the maximum five stars in the Food Hygiene Rating scheme and welcome all to try our range of food available from pub classics, American style foods, pastas & salads and more. We take great pride in our selection of beers and ales. We are Cask Marque accredited and there are many guest ales to choose from as well as our house ales. We are also happy to introduce our new craft beer, Devil's Backbone IPA, from America along with Hogstar lager, Windsor & Eton Pilsner and Hazy Hog cider.
