I’ve had this place on my list of places for a considerable time. I wish I had acted on it earlier. The staff are very welcoming, the host very friendly and the food was wonderful (Roast Beef). It might have been our first visit but...More

Having driven past several times since it came under new ownership and been intrigued by the Lobster day advertised on billboards, we decided to give it a try. £20 a head didn’t seem particularly cheap for lunch but we discovered this gave you a complete...More

I've heard nothing but good things about this place . It certainly lived up to its reputation! Really well cooked food, with reasonable prices. It beats some meals we've had in so called fancy restaurants in London! You just know when there is an experienced...More

Had an amazing lunch here. The skate special of the day was delicious and the butter sauce was just right (sometimes you can get a butter sauce that’s too rich and heavy). The highlight personally was the milk ice cream with the Sicilian doughnuts. We...More

Booked in for Sunday lunch (my third experience, and have been back once more) to treat Aussie friends who were looking forward to a traditional roast. The food was absolutely delicious, freshly made and served with smiles. We each had a different meat - my...More

Higher quality than average pub food, which means it's always busy, booking recommended. We didn't book, but had a very good meal, enjoying the last of the summer sun. Good, if slightly eccentric service made this a very enjoyable impromptu lunch. We will return.

Decided to eat here on a Thursday night, as neighbours had reported good food. We were three, as we had a friend staying. The meal was excellent. I had one of the specials for starters, grilled goats cheese on top of a bed of grilled...More

We visited on a Friday to try the Lobster (Friday night is Lobster night). They couldn’t serve us lobster as they were fully booked (for lobster) and so we decided to try the regular menu. The good: My wife had the mussels and I had...More

Oh là là It’s great that you enjoyed our food – the chowder is an outstanding dish. What is not so great, in fact what is appalling, is that you think it is ok to make derogatory personal comments about a member of our staff...More

Dear Aprilbell We have a large garden that lots of children enjoy that backs on to woods but I'm afraid we don't have a play area as such. Kind regards Helen

The Bird in Hand is a delightful 16th century coaching inn, ideally located in the picturesque village of Sonning Common. The pub is a traditional style inn with a cosy feel and a lounge bar with a working Inglenook fireplace. There is the added benefit of a delightful garden and alfresco dining, which backs onto a woodland area known as Bird Wood. There are dog treats on the bar, real ales and a mouth watering menu. Everything on the menu is made from scratch, Chef Santino is dedicated to producing only wholesome, hearty artisan pub food using seasonal market ingredients. Please note that we are open for food from 12-2.30pm and 6-9pm Weds-Sat and 12-4pm on Sundays. Our wood fired pizza oven will reopen in the Spring on Wednesday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday evenings. Please note that when we open on Bank Holiday Mondays we then close on the Tuesday of that week.
