After hearing a lot of very good things about this place, I finally managed to get round to ordering a takeaway..
When they called to take payment you could hear how busy it was.
Great I thought, very popular.
We were told it would be an hour.. that's ok, again your busy and we ordered early (5.45)
By 7.30 we had sroll not received any food. It eventually turned up at 7.50pm...2 hours later.
My lamb dish was great, loads of tender meat, good gravy and a nice kick. The rice, very good and the naans, also very good. The rest is , I'm afraid , not so good.
I'm going to make a guess here, so if im wrong, I apologise.. everything that came, came really nice and hot, unfortunately that included the yoghurt raita....it wasnt a little bit warm it was hot....defeating the point of a nice cool yogurt raita. The sag paneer, was almost brown and sludge like. The crispy coated chicken lollipops, had become soggy and not very nice. My guess is that to make this take away service work for them, they send out a few take aways all together?. The driver who delivered, was lovely and clearly had other deliveries on board. Our food may have been ready after 1 hour , but seems to have been in the very efficient thermal bag for quite some time too. Heating up the yoghurt to a ridiculous telperature , discolouring the spinach and making the lollipops, really soggy and not nice at all. It all went in the bin I'm afraid.
I will be trying this place again when things get back to normal , as my curry was really very good, great flavour and generous portion. But you cant compromise the quality. If you do read this HOF, please, Your food is good but half of it was ruined.
Hence the 3/5. Shame really, waited a very long time and only able to eat half our order.

We had a table booked beforehand. the menu had a great selection for everyone. One of our party had a dairy intolerance and the staff were quick to sort him out with an allergies menu and we're really clear with the orders to pass the info onto the chef. The staff were really attentive throughout and the food was really high quality.

Second year running we have come here for our office Christmas meal. All expertly organised by Tony and the food is outstanding. There were 30 of us and the restaurant was very busy being as it was near Christmas but the service was very good, drinks coming out nice and quickly. We had opted for the set menu 3 which was really good and the food came quickly and nice and hot. There was plenty of choice from salmon and prawns in the starter to lots of delicious curry choices for main course. One of our staff can't eat spicy food but that was fully catered for by Tony and his team. All in all a very successful evening. We will definitely be back.

We were staying in Reading and pre-booked a table over the bank holiday weekend. I could see the mixed reviews but thought we would give it a try. On arrival, the restaurant looked bright and quite modern and we felt happy with our choice. This however very quickly changed. Very unfriendly staff, waited over 20 minutes to be asked what drinks we would like. Again a long wait to receive them. Poppadoms were bad - burnt flavour which in assume is from the oil. One of our group is allergic to cashew nuts so the choice for them was very limited. In other restaurants the chef will come and chat but here we were handed an allergy sheet and left to choose. Starters were ok. Second drink was requested 3 times before it arrived. Then onto the mains. Out of 4 dishes we sent them all back uneaten. No one asked us what the problem was, just presented us with a bill for £134. I never complain, but the shocking service and low quality food meant I felt I had no choice. The manager grudgingly took off 2 mains from the bill so the bill was still over £100 for 2 drinks each, burnt poppadoms and a starter each. Really not impressed and the staff honesty couldn’t have cared less.
If anyone is in reading and looking for a decent curry - don’t go here. You have been warned!!!

I have eaten copious amounts of curry from numerous places over the years and this is by far and away the worst I have ever eaten.
I had tikka masala which tasted of tinned tomatoes and when I complained to the manager he was the most rude and condescending person I have ever met.
No refund was offered on our meal and the staff were extremely slow with dealing with us. Except for when it came to bringing our mains out while we were still finishing our starters
A truly awful experience by staff who could not care less of the issues we had.
Avoid like the plague!!

The restaurant used to be one of our favourites but today we are posting because of a disgusting experience caused by rude behaviour of a very incompetent staff member. Me and my wife visited there to place a take-away order. We were asked to wait as the takeaway orders needed to be placed only through a particular staff member. After a wait of 10 mins; we approached this staff member, he asked us to wait! We patiently waited for another 10 mins during which we observed that he was going around in the restaurant just to arrange chairs but paid no heed to the waiting customers. He never turned up to take the order. We requested him if he could just take the order and we can come back after an hour to collect it. But this time also he asked us to wait further! At this point after having waited since last 20 mins and not been able to even place the order, we questioned him for how long we shall wait just to place a takeaway order and that we haven’t seen his intent to serve us. He rudely replied, “do not teach me my job!”. We immediately left the restaurant instead of wasting any further time and will be never be back again! This was extremely insulting, absolute nonsense and an arrogant attitude! Having no shame for being incompetent in his job, this staff member needs to be trained how to treat customers respectfully and should learn some manners. This jingoistic attitude will one day bring the restaurant down.

Having arrived we were greeted with hostility, we then order which came pretty quick, the food was mediocre up until I found a thick black hair in my chicken. I sent my food back and it took about 10mins before the manager arrived to ask if I wanted a replacement meal, which I declined. When the bill came the chicken was still there for me to pay even though I had complained and sent it back, pretty crap service. Will not be returning.

Worst ever customer service. So rude staff. I ordered online to get my food delivered at 7pm, called them at 7:30pm about my food and the guy on phone was so rude and said your food is lying here and he will send someone to deliver and then again I called at 8pm asking my about my food and he replied so rudely that I need to have patience. Then why have you got the delivery time on your website? I even have your email with me with delivery time. The food arrived so cold even spending more than £50 for it.

We booked for Saturday lunch as we thought it would be a lovely place to meet friends, but it was not the case. We didn't know it was buffet but thought that's fine. Quality of food was ok not bad but the service was totally rubbish. Our booking was for 12.30 and at 2.26 pm the manager very rudely asked us if we are done while we were still finishing our desserts. He plainly said to us you have been here for 2 hours and other customers are waiting. Well that's not our fault, they should work out on their booking and managing system rather than asking customers to leave. One of the worst customer service I have ever come across. The staff seriously need some training or else it will definitely be bad for the restaurant in the long run. None of us will visit HOF ever again when there are plenty of other lovely restaurants in Reading.

Turned up to restaurant to be “greeted” by a very unhappy looking waitress who showed us to our table. We ordered a shared platter which was advertised for 2 people but we ordered for 4 as we just wanted a small amount but she tried pushing us to order more. After we ate our starters she hadn’t even taken an order for our main. When we asked her to come over she was very dismissive then explained that the gas wasn’t working and someone was coming out to fix it. We appreciate things going wrong, however she didn’t offer to get us more drinks or asked what we wanted to do, she just walked off. We then had to find her to ask what we should do. She didn’t say anything so asked for the bill which we paid but she looked very annoyed we refused to pay the service charge. Then the manager who hid the entire time came out as we were leaving. Whilst these things happen, there was no customer care whatsoever. Will not be back. The only reason I have scored 2/5 was for the starter as it was good but seriously disappointed with the attitude of the staff even before the issues started.

Long story short I had to wait over nearly 2 hours in total for my food and it was just ‘OK’. This restaurant really has gone down the toilet. Pretty sure I got given a dodgy Yoghurt dip also, tasted like toilet cleaner. And why is the food so spicy?! I love spicy food but this just takes away from the taste of the actual good and give me heartburn if I eat too much!
I would highly recommend NOT coming to this place. It wasn’t a good place before the pandemic but after its even worse. The collection is a joke and the state of the place is poor. Not sure how it won ‘awards’. Save your money, your time and your patience and go somewhere else. The photo attached is me still waiting for my food 45 minutes after ordering. If this was a delivery service I would have got a refund and an apology. If I knew this would happen I would 100% have gone elsewhere. I only did this for the 50% off.
I would loved to have taken a picture of what the place looked like but that would have meant taking a photo with 10 other people waiting with me!!
Service is poor, customer service is poor and everyone just acts as if they are tired and just want to go home.I decided to come back here for a pickup order and I had to wait over an hour EXTRA for my food. Bearing in mind there is already a 50 minute wait from when you place the order which is acceptable but I had to wait in the place for so long it became a joke.
They just kept on saying the food is coming and that’s it.
One comment for the nice lady with Blonde hair, she did make the kitchen do my order as soon as she took my ticket. Only problem is I had to wait almost an hour for her to do. If she had asked me 30 minutes before, I wouldn’t have written this review.
Such a shame.

After being told that the food was good and we should try.... we did and now wish we hadn’t wasted our money. Onion Bhajis were burnt, rice was over cooked/reheated, no dips, butter chicken was soaked in a lot of oils, naans were like something you could buy at the supermarket for a third of the price.
My advice would be to not bother with this place.

Second visit to this restaurant. And again it was terrible. The food is so salty, it’s overpriced. And the staff just don’t give a damn.
My friend and I order the “Fully Loaded Sharing Platter”. Cost £29:99.
It was 2 prawns, 2 small nuggets of chicken, 2 small bits of salmon and 2 small bits of tandoori. We were shocked and asked where the rest was.
When we complained about the size, the manager just said this was the dish and walked off.
Our others friends all ordered curries, but said they weren’t anything special.
We all joked about going to KFC after because we were still hungry.
When the bill came they had added a 15% service charge, which we refused to pay.
Next time we will be going to Hawelli in Twyford. It’s sooo much better

Having moved to Reading recently, we have been craving good Indian food for a while. Considering the great reviews the House of Flavours boasted of, we decided to order a take away from there. Being a Saturday, the restaurant was full with a waiting time of atleast an hour. That’s how popular the place is!
We met Mr Chander, the owner, who recommended we try the chicken biryani and the lamb seekh kabab and I’m glad we went with his recommendations. The seekh Kababs were flavorful, juicy and perfectly accompanied with the mint chutney. The biryani was by far the best we’ve had in the UK. The rice was flavorful with well marinated boneless chicken pieces. Unlike most places where the chicken and the rice don’t blend together in one dish- this one was just perfect. While we waited for the food, you can watch the food being prepared and safety standards being well adhered to. The food quantity was good and more than sufficient for two people, with our bill coming to 21 pounds. A must visit for anyone missing India!
