Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic old pub in central Reading that serves a large selection of different real ales etc. Reminds me of some of the old London pubs I would visit years ago. Want to try some of the beers they will give you a shot glass of...anything you would like try out. Nice outside area at rear if you fancy sitting outdoors, space heaters for when cold. If you want a pub without youngsters shouting and fighting this is great, sensible older customers who just want to relax with a drink and chat 👍. Loads of old tables, dart board in corner and a log burning fire in the winter.More

Popped in with a colleague while staying in Reading for work - excellent selection of beers and great atmosphere. Lovely pub well worth a visit. We visited on a Monday night and it was full of people, which speaks volumes!

This has to be the best drink only pub in Reading. So many real cask ales to chose from and keg ales (craft beer). They tell me you can get sausage rolls and toasties. Showing 6 Nations Rugby so best eat beforehand. Plenty of Belgian...bottle beers on offer if you’re not up for English beer.More

Located in a side street just off the Oxford Road, about ten minutes walk from the town centre, you will find this amazing little old-fashioned boozer. The 'Artist' plaque outside reveals it as a former Morland pub, but when you step inside you realize this...is a highly individual establishment, a world away from the multitude of chain pubs that proliferate these days. The single room is highly traditional with a piano (not sure if this still gets used), a dart board in the corner and an unchanging no-frills atmosphere. But take a look at the bar where they have the most amazing, eclectic range of ales and ciders: about a dozen handpumps featuring ales from all over the country and all from very small-scale breweries and not a national brand in sight. They have a similarly aligned range of ciders too. The food offering is very simple, yet delicious. Don't come here expecting that special meal; this is primarily a drinks led pub, but the toasties and sausage rolls that the menu focuses on are superb and reasonable value and very much in keeping with the vibe of the pub. Somehow they just taste different to what you would find in a chain pub. Why aren't there more pubs like this? This is a must-visit pub when in Reading and it is really worth making a special visit to the town just to go to the Nag's Head!More

Stayed in Reading for 3 nights & popped in the Nags Head 2 of those nights. Great little pub. Loads of beers to choose from. Staff chatty & friendly. Didn't eat here so can't comment on the food. But the wide selection of beers was...great. Nice cosy beer garden too.More

Visited a couple of times during recent stay in the town. First time (Good Friday lunchtime), it was a bit depressing, because the two guys serving were so miserable. Didn't look customers in the eye at any point and seemed as if they could hardly...be arsed to do their job. So after a couple, we took the hint and moved on. But on the Easter Sunday afternoon visit, it was totally the opposite. Lots of staff on, mostly female, and extremely friendly and communicative. So we stayed for quite a few--it really makes a difference. The various beers we drank were all excellent, and some tasted unusual. They serve beer in diverse festival glasses, a quirky touch. We sat outside in the surprisingly large garden, which has ample shaded seating and tables set on artificial grass. Despite those previous impressions, the Nag's Head proved a top pub after all, living up to its reputation.More

Such a great selection of beer both cask and keg. The staff are very knowledgeable so if your aren't sure just tell them what you normally like and they will recommend something.

We were covid wary so decided to sit outside, the tables were nicely placed in a garden and service was good. There was a wide array of drinks on offer and we had a good evening.

I last visited this place around 2002. It's not changed a bit, a real shame, as it's as ropey today as it was then. Gutrot beer, and scabby old rolls. I even think the drunk Irishman in the corner, is the same bloke. . ....What a tragic state of affairs. . . It's even got that timberframed mess next door, It's as if I never left.More

They serve a delicious choice of pies - pie & pint rather than bar food - and they’re very good 👍🏼
