Hidden away upstairs in what seems like a standard riverside pub, the jolly anglers offers a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, bar, palms. When the sun is out you could be in the Mediterranean. This is helped by a menu full of succulent fresh meat and seafood that makes your tastebuds water. We were showed around and served personally by the manager who was more than happy to facilitate us, making us feel welcome and happy to converse with us. A highly recommended diamond in the rough, secret jewel of urban reading. If you’ve not been here. Sort your life out. 5 stars

Definitely worth a visit

Classic example of don't judge a book by its cover. Whilst the aesthetics of this place aren't the most appealing we had a great meal here. The food was genuinely delicious and the bar man was clearly very proud to serve us. We all enjoyed our food and drinks too. Not too pricey either.

Friendly folk, great comedy evenings, nice food.

Went here a few times in the summer after lockdown and always received a friendly service. If they didn't have something on the menu,they did their best to accomodate. Same with the comedy evening which was great fun and even the locals are so friendly. Another visit due soon!

Disappointing

Came for a meal with friends. Ordered seafood linguine. It was tasteless, bland with no sauce. Thought that at least dessert would leave a better taste in the mouth but they didn't have any at all...very surprised as we had booked in advance and they advertise themselves as a restaurant. Nice staff but they need someone who can cook in the kitchen or they should stick to dishes that they know they can do well. I would rather have a good burger and chips than a poor linguine.

Called in for a drink after a long walk along the Thames then the Kennet. Didn't have any normal cider so I had to have strawberry & lime (which was actually very nice) Daughter had a pint of Peroni (I think) Granddaughter a pint of apple juice & I had 1/2 pint of said strawberry & lime cider as I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not. So, drinks not a problem but I felt that being charged £12.30 was. Not used to prices down south but this felt too high.

The jolly anglers has upped its game over the years. The upstairs now has a pool, while still maintaining that friendly local feel downstairs. The bar staff are funny, friendly and have the best service of any pub I have EVER BEEN TO! Honestly, give it a go and enjoy the river :)

Lovely, fun, canal side pub, my fav in Reading

Visited Reading for my early birthday celebrations over the jubilee weekend and HAD to return to my favourite pub, I wish I could pick it up and move it back home to Brighton! Always a great lively atmosphere here. Dj Friday night smashed out so many good tunes we danced the night away to. Saturday we returned early evening and enjoyed a few drinks canal side as the amazing terrace upstairs was being used for a private party. Lovely owners and staff, always a pleasure to return and catch up. Thanks for having us

A strange mix ..,

The welcome was warm but pub is a strange mix of local pub and Greek style nightclub. The build quality of the outside area is also greek style if you look are the support structure while on the stairs.

Bday party vibes!

Came here for a friends birthday party. Wow / unexpected! The strawberry cocktails were sooo good. The venue was friendly and the new outdoor area at the back is very much a nice space!

Worth every penny

We had a fantastic day here, we hired the upstairs out for a private party. Swimming pool and hot tub were great, the owner and staff went above and beyond! We will definitely be returning and thanks again for a fun day 👌

This pub can be found on the Kennet canal path, not far from Horseshoe Bridge. Go out the back and up the stairs to a mock beach bar, which is a fantastic venue, and a real sun trap on a warm day. Very friendly staff. One of my favourites in Reading.

What a brilliant pub

What an amazing pub. Landlord literally introduced himself. Amazing garden. So interesting and hospitable. I can only describe the wonderful pub as an exciting tardis. A must to visit.

Yuck Really not a nice place. Noisy, bad food, manager has a terrible attitude towards people saying the food is bland and the beer tastes off. Chavtastic to the extreme

We visited as a group of 5 and it was so good, the staff were very prompt and extremely accommodating. In particular, Valentina made our experience with her friendliness. We will definitely recommend to friends and we will return again.
