Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I’ve been to Uncle Sams 5 or 6 times now and I have loved it ever time. I have never left reviews on any website because food never excites me enough to make me think to leave a review but Uncle Sams is something special. The customer service is impeccable the food is original, very tasty and high quality every time. The restaurant has a classic American feel with lots of interesting posters, pictures and objects around which I, and everyone I have been with, find very interesting. I can personally recommend the cheese and bacon potatoes skins, ribs, bacon burger, cheese burger and chocolate milkshakes. Uncle Sams is perfect for any age group and occasion. Kids birthday, family reunion, dinner with your friends or even work events Uncle Sams is the place to go. Unlike the competition Uncle Sams can meet most dietary requirements and they are always happy to make changes to your order (if you want something not on the menu and they have the stuff to make it they will do their very best).Unsurprisingly tables are in high demand so you can either walk in and have a small wait for a table or call up and reserve one in advance. In conclusion I could not recommend it more and it is perfect for everyone! (I don’t know if this does happen but I haven’t been bribed or payed for this I genuinely love the restaurant) Love it top job guys!!!

Amazing food!!! A very good selection with Gluten Free options, the staff are careful and know their stuff when it comes to food allergies. The waitress went the extra mile to make sure my fiancé saw everything she was served met her needs and it was no trouble to them. That and the food is just delicious... I enjoyed the burger I had and the club house looked good too. The only change I would suggest is traditionally, a club house uses streaky bacon... Minor detail but I continue my search for a "true" clubhouse sandwich pop. The pub is great though and the staff are terrific. Well recommended and will definitely be back.

The food at uncle Sam's is always good and we've never had a problem with it but I'm not so sure about the sauce platters they use.. when our mains arrived the waitress grabbed the sauces off of another table and brought it to us but just as we were about to use them a customer came up to us and said he'd put his fingers in the mayo, I asked the waitress for fresh ones and she fetched them across. Then I saw another table double dipping their chips in the ketchup which was then passed on to another table. For me this is a let down and very unhygienic, please just put out fresh sauces every time..

My kids hadn't been here before and it was amazing. We were initially cautious being so close to the university campus but no need. The seating is very spacious, the staff really polite and helpful. One of our party is lactose intolerant and the staff were really knowledgeable about what she could have. The food was superb, tasty, freshly cooked, presented to its best. Joy of joys, my daughter could have the apple pie (gluten free). Overall, a gem of a place!

I've been a semi regular visitor to Uncle Sams for YEARS and always enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. Unfortunately things have clearly changed. We arrived at 7pm and were soon seated and given menus but it was easily 15 minutes before we were able to order anything - not even a drink. The food was average at best. There was a time even a quarter pounder was filling but this could have been a Birds Eye burger for all I know. The burger was on a standard breadcake, no garnish, nothing. Gone are the seeded burger buns. The plate looked a little unappetizing and beige - no little side salad, no pickle tray. After the lacklustre burger we were given the menu for desserts and again waited a long time (10 minutes or more) to be asked if we had ordered but it felt a little like we were being hurried out the door or that they would rather we didn't order dessert. We left, just about satisfied but it's easily the worst visit I've ever had to this once "go to" venue. Sadly, I don't envisage visiting again anytime soon which is a genuine shame. If you want a good burger and nice atmosphere, I'd recomment you consider somewhere else..

We have eaten at this family establishment for well over 30 years and tonight was so disappointing. For a wafer thin dry burger and fries, I would have been better going to Macdonald's, at least there's wouldn't cost over £10 each. Basic breadcakes, really!! Last year we brought a party of 12 and we felt like we ate likes kings, tonight for my son's birthday, I felt terrible for taking him for something that should have been a special treat. You need to go back to your values uncle Sam's, before you end up closed. Sorry to say, we won't be back and won't recommend.

The staff are friendly.. that's the only plus. Plates were not cleared between courses. We had no cutlery and had to ask three times! Lemonade was flat! And the food was dreadful quality..... southern fried chicken burger had never seen any seasoning.. it was reformed chicken in breadcrumbs. The bun was stale.... With frozen( I don't mean cold) chips. All very bland. There was an awful lot of food left on plates in our party. For the price we expect more when eating out.

We dined here as part of the goverments 'Eat out to help out' initiative. We have been visiting Uncle Sams for the last 20 years but haven't been for some time. The lady who served us was rushed off her feet as it was peak lunchtime. However, she never missed a beat, she was fantastic, freindly and very efficient. We were served within 5 minutes for drinks and 10 minutes for the food. The place was clean with lots of measures in place for COVID. The burgers are the best I've had, the cheese sauce is fantastic. The place is great for kids with a little train which circles around the ceiling. I honestly coudn't fault the place. Very impressed

Went to Uncle Sam's recently to celebrate my 53rd. The cheeseburger sauce is the same as I remember in the 1970s, fries just as good with a dollop of the sweetcorn relish and ketchup. Proper fizzy Coke, awesome milkshakes. Everything delivered in a timely manner by the amazing servers - thanks to Bex and her daughter for making our group feel as welcome as family would. Very accomdating to the guidedog in our group and were super ameniable to takeaway packaging for leftovers, extra sauces and drinks - nothing was a bother to them. Thanks very much. Will return.

This place used to be nice for food but it's drastically gone downhill recently. Quality of the food when i visited about a month ago was very poor, even Maccies would give better. The burger was way overcooked, all i could taste was burnt charcoaled meat which was disgusting, chips were overcooked and the bun felt cheap, was falling apart. The prices have gone up considerably given the bad quality food. From looking at the kitchen it appeared the food was being cooked way too fast because of a busy day but that does not mean that quality should suffer because of their drive for greed. Whilst paying at the till, I saw my coke was £2.75 on the bill but on the menu when i looked earlier it was cheaper. The waitress said it was the kids menu which is an easy mistake to make as the 'kids menu' is not that clear when your in a rush to order as it's on the normal menu for adults. The waitress removed the coke from the bill but displayed a patronising attitude and pulling a face at me like an immature child. The kids menu should be seperate to avoid these easily made mistakes which are designed to decieve and trip people up. I will most certainly NOT be coming back to this restaurant. I would be surprised if it survives due to the shockingly bad food and inflated prices!

My childhood friend and I wanted a trip down memory lane so decided to go to Uncle Sams. We’re now 62!! We were given a warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Breadcakes were beautifully fresh and the cheese sauce was delicious (as it always was). I had the Uncle Sams special burger. My friend needed no bread due to dietary requirements and nothing was too much trouble. All in all we will go back again as it was delicious.

I travelled with my son from Somerset to visit our 92 year old Mum/Gran and to celebrate my son’s birthday we decided to go back to one of our favourite all time restaurants. This place is just so special, atmosphere, originality and of course the absolutely delicious food. It is a small kitchen but sitting nearby I could see how slick the staff are working together with the friendly waiting staff to get food out as quickly and deliciously as possible. They obviously have a lot of pride in what they do and want the customer to have a lovely food experience. No wonder this restaurant has survived many, many years while others on Ecclesall Road have failed.

Came here with a bunch of mates after finishing uni for celebrations. Always looked full when ive walked past before. Steak was not cooked as required and overall a let down. Had similar quality at wetherspoons for a fraction of the price. Fizzy pop anything but fizzy! Nice staff, shame about the food!

Family lunch over half term the burgers were super and the children's meals were just right. The staff, two ladies, were exceptional. They were very informed about gluten free options ( most of the food) and were particularly lovely to my three grandchildren.

Iv been going to uncle sams since I was a baby and it's just one of those heart warming places you always look forward to visiting. We didn't book but the staff were so friendly and accommodating. I cant visit without having the cheese burger and that amazing cheese sauce. I only have some slight feedback: wish they were still served in seseame seed buns and also wish the condiments were served how they used to be with onions too rather than the very small pots. Other than that best milk shake iv ever had. Thanks 🥰
