Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After walking with frirends around the center of Sheffield we adjourned to the Rutland Arms for a couple of beers. The pub is definitely old school with an old-fashioned décor and somewhat down at heel ambiance (the carpet it the give away). But the beer...is great, the pub although having music does not prevent conversation and so it is a pleasant experience. To cap it all the chip butty was outstanding. I will probably return the next time that I am in SheffieldMore

We had 3 drinks in here on a Friday afternoon. It's a brilliant, old fashioned pub with lots of different beers and ales. A friendly pub with a mix of different ages of clients.

The food is this pubs redeeming feature. Pub interior smelled like a wet dog. Desperately needs a refurb. Music that day was 90’s Eurotrash and one hit wonders. Way too loud. I missed out on pudding as the music and volume was too sh1t for...the group to bear. I guess it’s trying to be one of those sub culture type places but when you can afford the drinks and food these days it just means everyone’s pretending.More

If you like the northern working men’s club experience circa 1973 then this is the place for you, indeed, its a shame that the establishment has to follow the rules prescribed in the Health Act - 2006 (C28) as the only thing missing from this...working class fantasy are the ash trays on every table brimming over with fag ends.More

The Rutland Arms is one my locals when working from our office nearby, its looks might not be for everyone, if you want fine dining then look elsewhere... what the Rutland does incredibly well is delicious food, the menu is basically made from specials, so...can change daily. From the fantastic burger to delicious Seabass, Sirloin Steak, Jamaican Goat Curry... to the small plate tapas style food. All amazing! not had a bad meal yet. The staff are great too, not to mention the 'proper chips' and wide range of Beers and Lagers. Love this place.More

Don’t use the jukebox, they will charge you and skip your songs anyway. They have a list of banned music which will be skipped, but they will still take your money for them. Even music that is not on the banned list will be skipped...if it is not to the staff’s personal taste. I have worked hospitality jobs all my life and had to listen to rubbish music - it is part and parcel of the job. Don’t take people’s money and skip their songs anyway. Aside from this, staff were aloof and rude.More

Don't be misled by the exterior. The food in this pub always has outstanding flavour. Having eaten at most restaurants in the city centre this place is a favourite for food and selection of ales. The menu changes frequently and food is fresh and well...presented.More

I had read some reviews and felt that this maybe an interesting place to eat, as it is just a short walk from Sheffield train station. Whilst walking I could see an attractive tiled pub from a distance. When I got to the pub I...was in a state of shock. It was covered in graffiti and old stickers stuck on the front. This needs turpentine or some kind of paint thinner on it - this is a guess from myself, as you would need to consult a specialist to avoid damaging the tiles. In August 2023 given the state of the exterior, I would not eat in a place that looks like this. I went elsewhere and I believe I will not be alone in my choice.More

The Rutland Draughthouse is located in the heart of Sheffield City Centre, in the Industrial Quarter and close to the University Hub. The building is charmingly characterful with quirky and rustic interior dècor. The greatest attribute is the splendid beer garden which boasts an array...of flowers and traditional red brick walls. The beers are all from independent and unusual breweries. I can understand The Rutland stocking unusual/different beers, so as to stand out, but it is a shame that no mainstream beers are stocked, as it can feel alienating to the customer and every independent beer has a unique, varied taste. The beer that I opted for was too bitter for my liking but was certainly drinkable. At £6.90 per pint, this bar is not suitable for those on a tight budget. I think this is the most I have ever paid for a pint but it's good to enjoy the extavagance. I found the service to be polite and professional. This bar does get extremely busy, especially on evenings, so be sure to find a table before you order. Bus services 95, 95a and 272 run to this bar from Sheffield Interchange and Castleton respectively.More

Liked the look of this pub while walking by and was intrigued. Inside the decor is eclectic with all manner of interesting bits and pieces. The bar had a number of different ales, many being local, and the menu catered for most tastes. The beer...was well kept and the food tasty. Definitely a good find and well worth a visitMore

Great Pub but don't make the mistake of putting something on the Juke Box that they don't like. They'll turn it off 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The Rutland is located just a few minutes walk from Sheffield's main railway station and as you approach, the first thing you notice is the fine old Duncan Gilmour's Brewery tiled frontage. Inside it remains a characterful old pub which hasn't altered too much over...the years, apart from a few quirky artefacts. Sadly they don't sell Gilmour's ales any more - that old Sheffield brewery closed in 1959 - but instead they have a fantastic selection of ales almost exclusively from small independent mainly local breweries. For me, a pint of Sheffield brewed Blue Bee Reet Pale went down very nicely. For a traditional pub like this, there is a surprisingly innovative and inexpensive menu, supplemented by a good specials board from which I selected and thoroughly enjoyed a beautifully cooked tuna steak served with mixed courgettes and a tomato and sweet chilli topping. In a city which has a number of interesting pubs, this one has to be up there amongst the best.More

We were staying at a nearby hotel and wanted to go for a few afternoon drinks with friends. After scanning Tripadvisor we found The Rutland Arms was nearby and we paid a visit. As stated in previous reviews, the decor is tired but you need...to see past this. The service is friendly, the real ale selection is 1st class, the food is excellent and the prices very reasonable. As a group of 4 we shared a number of the small plates as well as Rutty (chip) Butty’s which were all very tasty. If your in Sheffield it’s definitely worth a visit.More
