4 of us had lunch yesterday and it was gorgeous. We had 4 of the bites to share; whitebait, Halloumi fries, fish cakes and the flatbread with chorizo and then and then 2 of us had the half rotisserie chicken, 1 of us had the beef burger with pulled pork and Stilton and 1 of us had the steak and ale pie. Everything was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. We chose from the main menu, but there was a specials menu aswell as a 3 course Sunday lunch menu for £20 which looked like amazing value. The staff were welcoming and efficient and the atmosphere buzzy and warm. Even though the pub was packed with every table taken, and a couple of tables with large family groups, the staff were on it and knew what they were doing. I would definitely recommend 👍🏼

The Castle is local to me but even so pubs these days have to give value to draw in and retain customers. The Castle does not disappoint! The menu is extensive and has you salivating just reading it. The food is exceptional, I commend the chef. The owners have taken great effort to be COVID 19 safe while still not detracting from the warm and cosy surroundings. I particularly applaud the use of Perspex screens between tables that allow you to see and be part of the other dining tables while keeping to the social distance rules. The staff are very helpful and friendly but the food is the star. I will definitely be going again and regularly. I enjoyed my meal here so much that I felt compelled to write this review. Well done to the Castle!

The food was great. The place was also well staffed and the food/drinks came quickly. We were disappointed to find that pub had allowed a party of 19 to book in during a period of ‘the rule of 6’. This was no coincidence as all the party were seated next to each other (with screens in between). I understand families are trying to do their best to get together and I don’t blame them for trying. The party were shouting over to each other and passing food around as well as quick visits to speak to the other tables. The children were screaming and their electrical devices were so loud. I do think the staff could have stepped in and mentioned about the electrical devices being so loud, I know there was nothing else they could do about the other distributions from the party. It just made our visit a lot shorter than we would have liked and conversations difficult. It definitely doesn’t mean that we won’t visit again though.

During this Covid 19 crisis. These lovely people have chosen to serve and prioritize their community. They are doing wonderful meals for people to collect. In addition they have chosen to bring a pack lunch to some vulnerable members of the community and deliver them. I know they are busy. But to take time out to do this at risk and financial outlay to themselves is beyond generous. Next time you get a take out meal or a sit in one... consider these guys for great food and big hearts. The local community needs your trade. Please put them on your radar. You will love them . Best wishes Amanda

The Service was quite poor on our last visit, we had to go to the bar to order drinks as the wait staff were nowhere to be seen. I ordered an 8oz steak at £20 what turned up was a lump of fat, I understand rump steak is fatty but half the steak was inedible. Also the steak that I received was tiny nowhere near 8oz and was served medium and not rare as requested. A very expensive plate of chips and a few mouthfuls of steak not really value for money. The blue cheese sauce was lacking any blue cheese flavour just quite sickly. Not once were we asked how our food was so when our plates were cleared I let the waitress know I wasn’t happy with the meal. She said she’d make the chef aware and retuned with our bill which she plonked on the table and disappeared without a word my meal was on this still priced at £20. We have been to this pub quite a few times with our last visit the previous Sunday where we spent nearly £120 for a meal out with our family. This experience just really put us off. As the waitress didn’t return we went to pay at the front desk and after paying we asked to speak to the manager. We were not asking for anything for free but wanted the manager to be aware of our disappointment. He came across quite dismissive saying they were busy and I probably just had a bad cut of meat. I am aware of this as I was the one subjected to it but why is this my problem? He advised to let us know when we returned again and he would sort something out. This was quite a bold assumption that we would return and he was evasive on what would be done to rectify the problem. What was a pleasant pub is now somewhere I probably wouldn’t come back to due to this experience.

We booked a table for six (no more allowed because of the virus rule) on the veranda overlooking the outside dining area. We were quickly shown to our table and drinks were soon ordered and on their way. The Castle has a wide variety of meals on the menu and our party elected for six different choices. All arrived in good time and were large portions and simply delicious. Desserts followed - I had crème brulè - a larger than expected portion which was baked to perfection. My wife, who wasn't having dessert, decided we should share it! The staff were attentive and pleasant, and were clearly following the safety rules, so anyone who is hesitant about visiting in these strange times shouldn't worry. As the light faded the outside seating area lights came on and the ambience was wonderful.

My second visit, we went for my stepmothers 90th in the autumn and again on Monday as I paid a ‘fleeting’ visit. Once again the food was excellent but the icing on the cake for me is the service, some members of my family have a manner which isn’t one I enjoy, it took us 30minutes to decide what we wanted, we had drinks and chatted away, no pressure. At 31 minutes they were moaning “Where is the service, so slow”. One of the party shouted across to the bar 😱and our orders were taken very pleasantly with a smile and the food arrived promptly. I feel so embarrassed but to them it wasn’t a problem. Thank you for making our lunch so pleasant and for tolerating the manners of some of our party. I hope to see you on our next visit to Sheffield.

We have heard a lot of good reports of The Castle Inn, so after 3 weeks of trying( must be good) we finally got booked in. On arrival went to the bar and it was down hill from there, firstly the bar staff didn’t seem to know if they sold coke or Pepsi and after ordering the 4 drinks one was forgotten. We were then shown to our table by a fabulous young lady who seemed to be the only competent person there. We then ordered our food and after waiting 50 mins for our food the order finally arrived. Three out of the four meals were wrong mine came with skin on fries after I had asked for hand cut chips, my piri piri chicken burger looked and tasted like it had been cooked in a blast furnace and was totally inedible. My son ordered hand cut chips and received halloumi fries and a shrivelled up 1/2 roast chicken. My wife’s chicken was the same. The waitress was very pleasant but all that was offered was a replacement meal (the rest of our party had just about finished) or the deduction of the cost of my meal. Totally and utterly disappointed in the whole meal and we will not be returning.

Food was excellent as usual we use this place regular for takeaway and now eating outdoors. But tonight something went wrong with the ticket machine and our ticket was lost. We waited for almost a 1hr and a half without any management taking note that we haven’t been served yet. We were a large party of around 7 adults and 4 kids split between 2 tables. Then when this was finally realised, the manager or team leader sent over one of the waitresses to explain the situation. Pretty poor from him in all fairness, felt really sorry for the waitress who was clearly busy already and didn’t need the extra pressure, especially when he was just stood at the desk pointing at her not really doing anything to resolve the situation himself. Shout out to the waitress, you definitely will know who you are. I personally think he realised that we weren’t happy that he bottled it coming over himself and eventually came over to offer a free round of drinks which was exchanged for the drinks we already bought to be knocked off the bill. Which was very much appreciated. As said earlier the food was spot on as always when it eventually did arrive. I know these things happen when machines go down or tickets get lost, I just don’t think that it’s fair on the waitress putting her in that situation. I hope that the tips aren’t shared as she well deserved what she got at a minimum. When it came to paying the bill they actually knocked off 50% which was above and beyond what we expected from them having already gave the round of drinks for free. Can’t really ask for anything more in the end so fair play. Would 100% recommend to anyone. Just one of those things I just wasn’t keen on how it was handled by the senior staff.

Superb customer service topped by the food. The chicken chorizo dish and potatoes bravas was superbly presented and tasted even better. I’ve eaten at many 5* restaurants and the food tonight topped it. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable but with a touch of class. Thank you for a outstanding experience for my birthday.

We booked a table for 5 for my mums birthday and requested a table near the kitchen. When we arrived we were shown in to the taproom. I mentioned that we had requested a table near the kitchen to be told they were taken as it was busy. I didn’t make a fuss as previously mentioned it was my mums birthday. The room had a roaring fire which was uncomfortably hot to sit and relax in. We ordered food and the starters arrived and were a bit mixed some plates were good and some average. Then a couple came in with a dog, my partner has asthma and is allergic to most breeds of dog. I questioned the waiter to be told dogs were allowed in the taproom. GREAT! Our main courses arrived, these were brought out in intervals of 5 minutes which left some food going cold. Once all the food had arrived we then had to go and ask for cutlery and condiments. Again the food was mixed my lasagne was very stodgy lots of pasta but not much filling, however my partner had the lamb shepherds pie and he thought this was ok. My poor mum couldn’t eat her chips in her words they were little bits of crunchy potato - just scraps. My son fared the worst he had mac and ribs, there was a plateful of ribs all were dry with barely any meat. I really wanted to complain but my mum looked so crestfallen I couldn’t do it in-front of her. It was our third visit to the Castle since August we really thought we’d found a fab place to eat out close to home, we won’t be returning.

Visited Saturday 10 September 2022. Only booked the day before, but seemed to be plenty of choice re. arrival time when speaking to the young lady on the phone. Arrived at 7.30pm, to be told there would be a short wait for our table. We agreed to get a drink and have a seat whilst waiting. Took a while to be served at the bar, but not too upset by this. Then the young waitress brought cutlery and serviettes to the table at the bar and when I asked if we were now eating at this table she replied 'yeah' and disappeared. We decided we didn't particularly want to eat where others were just having a drink and asked if it was possible to move to another table. A young man said another couple hadn't turned up, so we could have their table. The starters and main course were then served and were ok, although my husband wasn't too impressed with his steak. At no stage did anyone ask if everything was ok and we weren't even offered a dessert menu - we felt we could have just walked out and no one would have noticed. We have visited a number of times in the past, but will not be returning and would suggest some members of staff would benefit from a little extra training in customer service.

I emailed my enquiry on the 13th April 2021 for a special birthday party of approx 25 people with food. No acknowledgement and no reply to follow up my enquiry was made. I sent a 2nd message via messenger on their Facebook page and still no response. I gave them the benefit of the doubt as they would be busy due to re-opening again after lockdown. This should not be an excuse as they have time to make posts on Facebook promoting their establishment, therefore an acknowledgement to a potential customer should still be of importance. I then made a 3rd attempt by phone and was informed the manager was on paternity leave and he would call on his return on Wednesday 28th April 2021. Still no reply and we are now at the 1st May 2021 so I gave up!!! I was trying to support my local business but this could not happen, not for one for trying and more so after the year the hospitality business has had I thought they would be organised and ready for every potential customer at the end of the phone or an email. I did send a courtesy email to inform them of my feedback I would be leaving and amazingly the manager replied within the hour!!.

The hospitality industry was on its backside, it still is. Sorry for being on paternity, I think I had 4 days off. I should only had 3 days off so I could hire the whole place out for 25 people as you requested. Thanks for leaving this review on our Facebook, trip advisor and google and many more places. Not many people leave a trip advisor with our having a trip. Makes me feel special. Thanks Jack

After several visits with friends and as a couple, my wife and I have enjoyed our evening meals. We were confident of consistency in the quality of the meals. Indeed previously I wrote a very positive review. Sadly tonight it was so different and so disappointing. We ordered fish and chips, which previously were delightful. This time many of the chips were burnt, and probably re-heated. The fish was not as fresh as previous, and the batter much harder, again probably reheated. It wasn’t consistent with previous servings. It was also very noticeable that our meal was delivered within a few minutes of ordering, which both surprised and concerned us. The bill showed an overcharge for a drink and when questioned the waiter stated that the menu was probably an old one showing a previous price! The bill was amended to reflect the price listed in the menu - not good. Very disappointing as we had looked forward to another visit . Richard Cowley

Never been here before but our friends had. We sat outside under the covered area as it was a nice Saturday afternoon. We all ordered something different and I have to say the food was fantastic and the portion sizes are very generous, really good value. Staff were great, the Chef even came out to say hello. Two ordered vegetarian also fab food. All in all had a great afternoon out here at Castle Inn. Will definitely visit again and would highly recommend. It was busy when we were here so would recommend booking if you can.
