Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We popped in to the Beer Engine by chance before a gig at the Foundry and it ended up being a real highlight. The beer selection is fantastic and the tapas was delicious. We had a chat with the landlord who was really welcoming and has obviously put a lot of love and thought into the place including making it feeling cosy and only serving quality food and drink. Highly recommended.

We had a great experience at the Beer Engine. The staff were professional, friendly and quick to take our drink orders which is espescially good now that many places are table service. Social distancing was very easy with good signage and a one way system in place. The tapas was fantastic, ach dish was beautifully cooked and I would definitely recommend eating and drinking here.

If anyone asked me where to go on a Monday night for tea, this is the first place I'd think of. I don't eat meat, so can't speak for those dishes, but all the plant-based dishes I've had have been great, and the Monday night 2-4-1 deal is fantastic value. Can't complain about much, maybe the service could be slightly faster if I had to choose something that could be improved, but it's not slow.

The Beer Engine has a good-sized beer garden round the back, with flowers and picnic tables and a nice high wall to keep out the road noise, as it's near London Road, one of Sheffield's busiest thoroughfares. There is an excellent selection of beers and they serve delicious Chinese Dumplings (pork, chicken or vegan) from the restaurant next door. The service was really friendly and efficient.

Three nights in Sheffield to visit the great pubs that make Sheffield a great beer destination, my twin brother Stephen and I dropped by The Beer Engine and what a great pub. Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here, the interior is fantastic, light and airy, the decor and furnishings including the white painted serving bar are very cool, there's also plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its a great pub to unwind in. We were here on a Wednesday evening, pub was just starting to get busy, a quick study of their beer range and we both opted to have Neepsend Brewery Co " alcis " a great session ipa that at 4 2% ABV was just a superb ipa. Hoppy but not overhopped ale, crisp, well balanced and bursting with taste, on a really hot evening a totally refreshing brew, its pubs like this serving beer this good that makes Sheffield a joy to visit. We both really enjoyed our ipa's in here, we only stayed for the one as we had other pubs we planned to visit and for a first time visit to The Beer Engine we were totally impressed The Beer Engine is easy to locate along Cemetery Road. Opening hours are; Monday & Tuesday, Closed. Wednesday to Friday, Open from 4pm. Saturday & Sunday, Open from Midday. A wonderful beer destination, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Fabulous evening at Beer Engine. Great choice of beers and wonderful small plates which we greedily devoured, all six of our choices were delicious. Attentive and efficient service from all staff. Special shout outs to Liv and Molly. Will definitely revisit and recommend widely.

New favourite Sunday lunch place. One meat, one vegetarian, one vegan option. Great beer options too. All that plus attentive but not overbearing service.

Delicious food and drink. Excellent beer selection. Gorgeous beer garden ( with cover if it’s raining). Lovely pub full of character. Easy to access from city centre, Ecclesall Road and London Road. Well worth a visit after work or for food any time .

A great little boozer serving a wide selection of craft ales. The food is of the tapas variety and very nice. Can’t really find fault with this place and if craft ale is your thing give a whirl you won’t be disappointed.

We visited Beer Engine for a drink and was contemplating getting some food as I’ve heard lovely things. We sat in the beer garden and looked at the menu. As we were sitting there, we noticed that the place is overrun with rats. We noticed at least three rats at one time. What makes this worse is that the staff came out to clear glasses, the rats were milling around and the member of staff just casually ignored them as if it was normal. Eat here at your own risk…

I’ve visited this place a good number of times and always had a great experience until yesterday. I ordered a craft beer from the bar and decided on some nuts too. The barman kind of huffily walked off to find the snack and then - and I’m not kidding here - literally threw them on the floor with force. He then picked them up, shaking them violently before placing them on the bar for me to take. I paid in a kind of stunned amazement. As I was alone I spent some time watching the same employee be truly delightful to some guests and then treat others, like me, with utter contempt. In one instance sarcastically saying ‘here’s your crisp and refreshing [beer name] - the customer responding with similar stunned amazement. I’m not sure if the Beer Engine has a problem with customers ordering snacks, or perhaps certain types of beer but my suggestion would be to remove them from sale if it’s so irksome to serve. If I were a psychiatrist I’d perhaps be concerned about the employee’s bipolar behaviour. As I’m not I’d suggest they are rapidly going to run out of custom if they choose to dislike every other person they serve - starting with me.

The Sunday dinners are amazing and the service is spot on. Great place for night out too as they have an excellent selection of cask and keg beers.
