Last night I visited with my mum to Ashoka, we went in and were immediately greeted and seated in a booth. We were offered drinks as soon as we sat down and were given a warm welcome. We ate poppadoms while we decided (which were hot and amazing), I ordered the keralan coconut curry and my mum ordered a cashew curry. All I can say is wow!! Also, the naan was gorgeous (garlic and cheese naan). Throughout our meal, our drinks were constantly topped up, and staff were extremely attentive without being on top of you which was lovely. Our plates were cleared and were offered complimentary hand towelettes and mint chocolates to finish. For me, the best part of our experience was our waiter at the end, who had a genuine passion for his job and the restaurant, and you could tell he really cared about the quality of our experience. As a waitress myself, I really appreciate this as I know it can be tiring putting up with customers all day lol and have never experienced such amazing customer service as I have at Ashoka! My only complaint would be that I didn’t know the waiters name to give him all the credit. Very well done. 5 stars is definitely not enough

We had a fantastic meal tonight for our first ever visit, every dish was superb and the service was brilliant, it was like going back in time a few decades to when service meant something. The two gentlemen serving were highly efficient, friendly and attentive. I left a fairly decent tip and thanked them for their hospitality, thanks also to the chef, everything was extremely tasty and cooked to perfection, all the meats were very tender. We had a lovely evening, thank you to all the staff, it was much appreciated and we can't wait to return.

Whilst I've visited many times before this was my parents first time. They were certainly very impressed quoting- 'that is the best Indian meal I've ever had'. They liked the more creative options compared to the traditional curry houses and the seevice was just wonderful- attentive enough but not over the top. Thankyou for a really lovely evening.

Ordered a take away. App said it would arrive 7.30pm, arrived very late at about 8.55pm. The garam chole was tasty but didn't work as a main course (it was advertised as a main course), containing about 2 full tins of chick peas. Very difficult to swallow all that! It also cost a hyper-expensive £10 and was ordered "hot", but possessed a barely medium heat. Spent nearly £25, but no free complimentary poppadoms or anything. This place really needs to pull its finger out and justify its costs. My review would have been more generous if the vegetarian main courses were £6.50, not £10. Where is the £10 going, for a few spices and 2 tins of chick peas?

Ordered on delivery which came quickly but unfortunately the best part of the £60 meal for two was the poppadoms. Both the ctm and coconut kerala curry were bland and the chilli paneer wasn't spicy at all and lacked flavour similarly to the other 2 dishes. The naan was okay but little flavour. Wouldn't recommend very surprised this is voted best curry in Sheffield.

Bank holiday Monday, living on the edge of Rotherham, not much choice in restaurant take aways. Decided it was worth the drive to Sheffield to pick up, not had take away from here before and not eaten in for a couple of years. Not a good start popudoms singed on the edge - never gs that before, onion bhajis stodgy, lamb chops burnt, usually charred but these tasted of charcoal. Saag Paneer had 4 x 15mm cubes of paneer and tasteless spinach £11? The other chickpea main was ok but bland. Positives steamed rice was good, it was ready at the allotted time to pick up and the front of house guy very pleasant. Disappointed more than anything that we haven't found another take away place. Surprised how well it rates, maybe ours was an off day or the Monday night chef?

Having been gifted a one off solo evening in the Steel City, research indicated that Ashoka was one of best Indian restaurants. On the plus side the service is polite and very efficient plus there's a wide ranging drinks menu. It's not just Cobra or Carling. However the food itself is only average and doesn't justify being priced considerably higher than most Indian restaurants in major cities. The prawn puree was essentially prawns in cream almost devoid of spicing. The Taxi Driver's Curry is a lot of keema with some bits of chicken with scattering of green chillies but again curiously lacking in evidence of use of spices. All OK but was expecting more. Starter, main, paratha and a beer was £30. However the locals appear to love it - was full on midweek evening.

I have been to many restaurants around the UK and the world that serve Indian and Pakistani food. I am sorry but this is not worth the money. We had 5 pop and a pickle tray, 2 starters, 3 curry dishes and and 2 breads for £65 and change! I asked the server whilst getting the takeaway if they do a real Biriani, he answered 'yes' and then when asked if the rice was finished cooking on top of the meat he then changed his answer. As its for the UK taste. The 2 mixed starters were nothing special. Onion bhaji was dripping in grease, the chicken was poorly marinated (use Yoghurt in future) and the shish was all chili powder with not much flavour. The 3 curries, there was a caramelised onion chicken dish that was OK but needed a squashed roasted and skinned tomato to loosen it up a bit. Another curry dish that was reccomended for my with was a korma like UK thing. Was garnished well but roast off the cashews. Now the curry I ordered was given as medium and that was a good, very close to the taxi driver staple of real street food but not worth that much. I would have served it with chicken. On the bone that was cooked in the sauce. Note. If your serving a pickle tray don't skimp on Raita especially when there are two starters that would normally be served wit it. One that was 100ml at best is not enough. Go somewhere else and enjoy

We enquired about a table for 25/08/20 and they didn’t have much capacity due to be being full, but they managed to squeeze us in for an hour slot. During this hour we had 2 courses each, cooked to perfection with the best service I have had from an Indian restaurant in Sheffield. The staff asked politely if we wanted any water filling, pickle trays keeping, as well as offering advice with the menu. I would recommend this independent restaurant to anybody.

Very attentive and personable service, even though they were busy they gave us discount vouchers for a nearby bar and called us when the table was free. Really enjoyed the Lamb Methi Special. The Taxi Driver Curry (mainly lamb mince with chicken pieces) was also good, but I preferred the lamb. Good selection of beers to accompany too.

I went to ashoka last night, i’ve never left a review for a restaurant in my life but the food and service was absolutely flawless. The waiters couldn’t have been more helpful, and as a gluten and dairy free i’m normally limited to what i can eat, but there menue was full of options for everyone. The food was delicious, such high quaility, not your normal Indian food. They went above and beyond and as we left gave us some dips and biscuits to take home as well. Couldn’t recommend more- if your an indian food lover you need to try here.

Had a call before our booking. Mentioned we may be a bit early and asked if the table would be available for a drink. Pressured into changing the time of the table to earlier. When we weren't as early as I thought we were told they had shortened the length of the booking. Didn't matter as we were rushed through as quickly as possible. Waiters hovering and clearing dishes the minute we put them down. Chocolates put on the table less than an hour as soon as we finished mains making us feel pressured to leave. In addition to this poor choice of sides - hardly any vegetables available. Nothing remotely interesting or imaginative on the menu like the more modern Indian restaurants, just plain rice and nan bread.

We manged to get a table on the last day of the government's eat out to help out incentive , we we're umming and aahring all day whether to go , I'd had a quick look at the menu online and it looked a bit too safe. we have recently fallen out with indian cuisine served in restaurants in the past few years and even resorted to trying the ones serving 7 course tasting menus for something a bit different . Im so happy we didnt cancel , its the best indian food we have ever tasted . Thankyou Ashoka everthing was perfect , the food and your wonderful staff , im just glad i live 40 minutes away or i would have visit every night and id be gatecrashing your kitchen to see how you manage to cook such fine food .

Some friends and I visited Ashoka today, not for the first time for any of us. During our starters we all collectively agreed it was the best curry house any of us have been to in Sheffield. The staff are lovely - friendly and personable, offering great advice about the menu and history of the recipes. The food is delicious. It’s fresh, flavourful and there is plenty of it! We are (flexi) vegetarians and had the prawn puri to start (incredible!!), along with a recommended selection of starters and a half/half main (the Kashmiri onion curry is amazing - not the right name, but clear from the menu which one this is!). The whole restaurant has a warm and homely vibe, with exceptional food, an easy to understand and choose from menu, with great staff! 100% recommend. Thanks Ashoka.

Food ok, but not memorable. Curries had good flavour, portions smaller than I would expect at a curry house. Service was fast, too fast, as it became obvious that restaurant was looking for quick turnover of tables. My partner had not even finished her beer, before her glass was whisked away, and bill just placed on table. I paid the bill, adding a generous tip, and then we we summarily requested to vacate our seats for new arrivals. One hour is not enough time, when this was meant to be a special occasion shared with family, who have just moved to Sheffield. Not impressed. I now regret giving that tip. Supposed to be the best Indian restaurant in Sheffield
