What a treat to eat at the French Pantry - it's a little bit of traditional France in Ludlow. The service is friendly and quick and the food is delicious. It's small and not open every day of the week so book in advance if...you want to be sure of a meal there - and you will want to eat there.More

Hits all the right notes - atmosphere, relaxed informality, good service and beautiful food with well-priced interesting wine list. About 12 tables. Unpretentious reliable range of dishes with ten or so dishes in each section of the menu ( starters, mains etc) . It’s one...of those places where , if you were to walk by when it’s open and in full swing , you’d really wish you were in there . With wine and 3 courses about £50-60 pp and just great.More

We were first time visitors to Ludlow and hit lucky when we were able to book a table for four at this wonderful French bistro. Be prepared when you first see the menu for a larger than usual choice of dishes, both starters and main....I felt I could have had 10 different combinations and I would have been happy with my choice. And also be prepared for the portion size; not the typical 'large mouthful and it's gone. Not one of us had the capacity to have a dessert, as appealing as they were. A full wine list is provided and here's the thing - everything is priced sensibly and when the quality is taken into account, represents great value for money. A five star experience for this reviewer.More

Had a great meal of escargots followed by cassoulet, ideal for the cold weather. Pleasant rural ambiance too. (You may need to book a table, at least on a Fri or Sat)

The rating is for the food not the service which was engaging and professional. I had the prawn starter which was so rich I couldn’t even finish half of it. It was too sweet for me. The bread was lovely. For main course I had...the confit duck which was so salty I couldn’t eat it - I ate the flesh but not the skin (which wasn’t crispy enough either). The sautéed potatoes would have been better if served anywhere but under the duck where they just ended up soggy rather than crispy. My wine was nice. The decor is very odd. I’d go again and try something other than what I ate on this time and hope it will be better.More

Friendly staff, lovely food but felt rushed between courses. No sooner had the plates been cleared away the next course was delivered. It would have been nice to enjoy the ambiance of the place for longer.

Not sure what has changed, front of house staff were new, they were very attentive, however, the waitress was wearing jeans, trainers and a jacket tied around her waist, kind of ruined the vibe. I ordered the prawn in their shells starter, not given a...bowl of water to rinse my fingers, went to the toilet to do it. The potatoes that came with the sea bass were all stuck together and very greasy. Felt let down as all of our previous visits were great.More

Great little family run spot worth seeking out. It is not fine dining, but French bistro style, which they do very well. The chef is quite accomplished as these dishes and the wine list is of a good variety and reasonably priced. Staff and owner...very friendly and helpful. Restaurant is not large, but comfortable and felt very cosy of a wintry night. Look forward to returning when next in Ludlow.More

The French Pantry is faultless. Fantastic food, relaxed atmosphere and great service plus excellent value for money. All the French classics are on offer, perfectly executed and sometimes with a little twist. For us the stand out dish was the crab gateau with saffron beurre...blanc served with the best crusty bread ever. Portions are generous and the wine list is refreshingly short and offers good value. My only regret is that we live a 3 hour drive away because I would like to go through the entire menu. If you are visiting Ludlow ( which you should) then make sure you eat here but make sure you book ahead.More

We had lunch here on a Friday. Gateau of crab ina saffron beurre blanc, and a Smoked salmon and Brie studdle for starters. The bread (I am guessing home made) dunked in the saffron beurre blanc was a meal on its own. Add in the...subtle taste of the light crab mouse and you have a delight. The strudel was equally impressive. Moules marinieres with French fries and of course crusty bread again, and Coq au Vin for mains. Copious and full of tradition and flavour. We nearly struggles to finish what was on the plates! As a result we shared a tarte tatin for pudding. Now I’m not sweet toothed but this took me right back to living in France - so authentic. Only negative was we had a table near the door to the kitchen (upstairs) which when opened frequently let a cold draught through but I think we were so overwhelmed by the food we ignored it. Book and try it if you like proper French food!More

Return visit to this warm and friendly restaurant. The revamped decor creates a real French bistro ambiance and the front of house staff were welcoming and attentive. I chose the special - beef with tarragon -a combination new to me; but trusting in chef Olivier's...judgement I was delighted with the hearty flavour combinations and the surprise element of black pudding was a particular success. A venue that always exceeds your expectations and a real gem.More
