Lovely casual atmosphere. Large portions of high quality food. Looking forward to returning soon to try out the other menu choices my dinner partners were having. Nothing was too much for the staff.

Hello there, Many thanks for taking the time to share your experience! We are so glad to hear you enjoyed, and hope to welcome you back sometime soon. Kind regards, Hope & Anchor Ownership
Excellent Sunday lunch, compliments to the chef. All the staff were very welcoming, will definitely be returning
Great pub to go to with great staff great atmosphere and great food. Fantastic pub! Recommended everyone to come.
We called in for drinks on our way back to Frome from Bristol, not realising that this was their first day under new ownership. We were warmly welcomed, and the service was fast and friendly. We were asked if we would like to try some...free nibbles and were given a bowl of Parmesan fries (very tasty), a plate of canapés (2 each of 3 different ones, all delicious) and a little portion of a tagine dish (which we didn’t try as I’m allergic to both chilli & coriander). What an unexpected treat - thank you! So many pubs seem to serve “pop and ping” food but not here. It was real food cooked by a real chef. We intend to return for a meal before too long.More
Stopped here after a cycle from Bristol & through the Two Tunnels. The food was fantastic & very reasonably priced. I saw the chef talking to the bar staff, advising them about the menu & could see he had a real passion about his food....The main menu looked great for anyone having an full meal.More
Oh goodness the food is good here! Friendly service, a beautiful, light conservatory style extension, calm and comfy bar area with sofas. A pretty garden with lots of seating and just off the old railway cycle route. I ordered a grapefruit juice and lemonade (I...always love it when a place has grapefruit juice) and the Vegan Wellington with Pesto sauce. It came quickly, was hot, generous in portion size and so tasty. The toilets were clean and the atmosphere relaxing. Definitely a place to stop at.More
We visited the Hope and Anchor public house in Midford on a Saturday early afternoon in April. We were visiting the area for an evening engagement and had been viewing some of the local scenery. The Hope and Anchor looked both inviting and quite quirky...being situated in the shadow of the disused railway viaduct. We drove here and the public house has free car park for patrons situated at viaduct level and partly on the footprint of the former Midford railway station. Access to the bar area from the car park is via a long staircase into the garden. The bar area is surprisingly large and very welcoming. We ordered two coffees and sat in a window seat looking out onto the road with the viaduct looming over it. The staff here were friendly and the overall experience was very enjoyable. We visit the area periodically to see relatives so we would be interested in making a return visit and trying an evening meal here.More
We visited this charming pub set in a beautiful valley. Lunch was full so we decided just to have drinks. 1 pint local cider 1 medium Merlot 1 bag of salt crisps Go on, guess £11.70 Food - there are bargains during the week. It...is open Thursday to Sunday.More
Visited for lunch with a friend. A warm welcome from staff and quick service without being over pushy. I had the fish and chips my friend had a starter followed by coffee and sticky toffee puddings. They also had a nice range of ales. Will...be back soon for another meal.More
We went here for lunch yesterday and it was delightful. We cycled there and were so happy to see the log fire which we hogged for a while. Our lunches were excelent and fresh and very nice. We had Otter beer - outstanding
gorgeous lunch - best steak I've had in ages served by friendly attentive staff. Good selection of beers too
Having read so many great reviews & seen a sample menu I thought this would be an ideal place for my family to go to. The guy at the bar was a lovely man except he was serving drinks, taking food orders, clearing the tables...and serving food - all by himself. He had no other waiting staff. It was literally a one man show outside of the kitchen. Needless to say we had a long wait to be served. One group didn't stay long and I am not surprised. The pub is only a small place so it doesn't accommodate many diners so it was busy. The food offerings we had were in my opinion not what I expected. The salmon dish was apparently excellent, the burger was good except the chips looked more like a cross between chips & roast potatoes - very odd i might add! Fish & chips was average & beef bourguignon sub-standard. My own dish was not even very hot. Overall I was not impressed. It is a huge shame as I was so looking forward to having a meal here. I wonder if it was just a bad day>? will i return?> now that I am not sure. Maybe you will have the experiences that other diners/reviewers have had so perhaps you should give it the benefit of the doubt.More
Good Morning, unfortunately our staffing situation is significantly lower that we would like it to be at this time. Lots of our customers don't book, we encourage walk ins, we had 12 approx booked for the service and ended up doing 40 approx. I'm sorry...More
Our small group picked a very wet day for our walk but fortunately the Hope & Anchor welcomed us for coffee when they opened at 11.30am, which set us up nicely. After a walk lasting just under 2 hours, we were ready for something to...eat and knowing we would be returning for lunch, they reserved a table for our party. The food was excellent - especially the Ham, Egg & Saute Potatoes and although I chose not to have a dessert, I should've done, as they looked delicious ! Highly recommended and we'll certainly return when we're next in the area.More

My family and I had an excellent meal here! We had a lovely waiter and the food was delicious. We visited due to my son’s graduation, we will be returning when we are back in the area. It was nice and busy and everyone seemed...happy! Thank you.More
