Cafe Lucca continues to be my favourite spot in Bath for delicious, fresh food in a relaxed and friendly setting.
The menu is regularly changing and so you can always expect to find something new amongst your favourite dishes. The portions are very generous for the money you pay, I very much doubt another reviewer paid £70 for lunch and find it even harder to believe the comment about a chipped plate; attention to detail is what Cafe Lucca does so well.

While staying in Bath we went two successive days to Café Lucca. It is in a large pleasant room with big windows looing south - with a terrace outside with tables. The location is convenient, at the northern edge of the city centre. Lovely coffee and cake and we also had a great scotch egg salad. Very friendly and efficient staff. Many of the clients were clearly Bath residents and if we lived in Bath it would be our favourite café too.

Stopped off here for lunch, we hadn't booked but they managed to get us in, which was good. The café setting is really nice, overlooking Bath with a terrace, big windows to take in the views. The menu has good options and vegan and dairy free options too, which is a massive bonus point. We both ordered drinks and food, which came really quickly, seemed freshly cooked and was good.
A good little all rounder.

Having been to cafe lucca before regularly when we lived in Bath we decided to go back for a visit for the great cake selection. To be honest it was a little disappointing and seems to have gone downhill. We were £15.90 for two cups of tea and two cakes making each slice of cake over £5 each which even by bath prices is a little steep! Especially when the cake selection was smaller than previously and cakes fairly average. Sadly we wont be rushing back and instead will enjoy many of the other local gems available nearby.

After our first breakfast out for three months we wished we’d stayed at home. On the plus side the staff are friendly and eager to please, contributing to a relaxed atmosphere and coping with the new post lock conditions. Alas the food does not complement their hard work. We both ordered the £11.95 breakfast of Grilled eggs with parmesan, Vine tomatoes, Toast and Marmalade, with a choice of; Sweet cure bacon, Smoked Salmon, Crushed Avocado, or Moroccan Falafel. I chose the bacon, my wife the falafel option. The bacon had been deep fried in cooking oil, the two eggs had been hard boiled, sprinkled with parmesan and grilled - tasteless and dry, as were the falafel. I ordered some mayonnaise to alleviate the eggs and was surprisingly, brought tartare sauce. I have never had a combination of bacon, eggs and (the one) tomato so disparate and ill matched. An expensive and depressing experience.

Hi Mcockerton
Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your breakfast, we sell hundreds every week and customers come in especially. Firstly I would like to say we have a small kitchen and we don't have a fryer in the building.
We buy sweet cure bacon and bake it in the oven. As we are attached to a designer fashion and interior shop, we are unable to fry anything and that includes eggs, so we buy Clarence Court eggs.
Boil them and finish them under the grill with parmesan to give them some umami.
With that you also get two halves of tomato that have been slow roasted with herb. Gourmet toasted ciabatta, local butter and a choice of jam or marmalade. We don't have tartare sauce
in the building., what you had was mayonaise with a sprinkle of Italian herbs. This all comes
on a serving board over a foot square. There are many places in Bath that are able to make a traditional
full English fry up . However we are restricted by our small kitchen and have to get creative. Plus we also have our charming staff, great coffee, delicious cakes, fresh salads and home made quiche plus a beautiful sun terrace. I hope you will give us another try one day.
Warm Regards
Richard and the Lucca team

My partner and I had lunch at the Lucca on a weekday shortly after the indoor dining restrictions eased. We had to queue for a few minutes for a table, which was unsurprising as the cafe is in a great location and seemed very popular.
The staff were friendly and attentive, and the tables were well spaced apart, so we felt very safe. However, the food was somewhat disappointing. I had a mozzarella and pesto 'luxury' panini, which was lacking in pesto and heavy on salad cream, and the mozzarella was cold and not melted. I also felt that the accompanying leaf salad was a bit lacking for the £9.50 price point. My partner did enjoy a good flat white, so we would return for coffee.
I'm not sure if there were vegan options on the menu, although there were a few vegetarian options.

Cafe Lucca is set in a stylish large old clothing store and shares its space with another cafe and charity/junk shop.
Billed as Dog Friendly, it certainly allows dogs into the Cafe, though not that welcoming. The service staff here are impeccable, staff are polite, well turned out and serve you well. That unfortunately is where to positives end.
Cafe Lucca has aimed high end. A Pannani lunch cost us a little over £70, and although the quality of produce was evident, the execution was terrible. Panninis were barely heated, and all garnishes you would find usually are all extras at £1…50 each, which would take a quick snack in a junk shop to the level of a meal at a far better quality restaurant.
I did warn them that the plates we had were all chipped and I'd cut my hand on mine, but received a shrug in response. I was more concerned a child may hurt themselves in the future as well as the obvious hygiene aspect. The Tea was struggling to brew and even when stewed with a skin on top remained completely devoid of even a trace taste of Tea.
So to conclude, it aims for the stars and catastrophically misses. You would be well advised to go somewhere that IS high end and have a wonderful lunch you expect at a similar price or come to Cafe Lucca and embrace the pretentious side of Bath. Play Posh, pay for something you THINK 'posh' people eat when in reality it's about quailty not price. It's about taste, not waiting for 3 hours to see if that half heated lunch would make you sick or not.

Hi
We are truly shocked and insulted by this ridiculous and false review. Cafe Lucca is an award winning
cafe. We use the best ingredients, amazing staff and a huge customer base. We opened eight years ago and have won many awards, we are a large 120 seater with plenty of room for people to relax.
We share the whole ground floor of a restored victorian department store, which is a pleasure
to spend time in. we share the space with a top designer shop Blue which sells wonderful clothes and also a home wares/interiors department with great products, fabrics, lighting and art.
We only use top brand ingredients from Clarence Court eggs. Hobbs house organic bakery a Clifton Coffee and tea. We are amazed at the ignorance and lack of taste of the reviewer with the possibility they are a competitor who is jealous of our success.
Please do not believe this review it is false nonsense come and try Cafe Lucca for yourself and be delighted, well cared for, and enjoy delicious food and home made cakes.

This restaurant is in part of the ground floor of what looks like a wonderful old style department store - beautiful wood flooring, original detailing and
lots of Covid-19 space!
Unfortunately the service and food wasn't quite up there. After 15 mins, we had to ask for our order to be taken (only tea, cakes and bread and oil). My daughter's bread and oil arrived 5 mins later followed by...two more requests for our tea and cakes, which finally arrived a further 10 mins later.
We're spoilt with the most fantastic cakes where we live, so the dry, spongy, sticky toffee cake and dry, spongy, ginger cake were real disappointments - and they had just run out of Assam tea!
Overall, disappointing, especially as we don't stop off in Bath very often.

Ordered the cooked breakfast - Bacon was more fat than meat - the ciabatta was way too buttery/ oily and the eggs were boiled and I was served salad... very weird cooked breakfast. How hard is it to cook bacon and egg? Service average. Location nice. Outside table nice.

HiJam
Sorry you did not enjoy your breakfast. Due to the fact that we are a concept shop sharing the space with
high end Ladies fashion and interiors. We can not do a traditional Fry Up. However there are many places who do.
Luckily we sell hundreds of our Grilled eggs sweet cure bacon and toasted ciabatta every week at
Cafe Lucca
Best Regards

Amazing pit stop for tea and cake. I had the beat cinnamon bun I’ve ever had, absolutely amazing!! Husband had raspberry ripple cake. Everything fresh, service is fab. Excellent social distancing. We had just tea and cake but the lunches looked all freshly prepared, it’s an open kitchen so you can see them preparing everything. Well done team. Next time I’ll be coming for lunch!

Cafe Lucca accepts dogs AND has the most delicious salads on offer anywhere win-win!! I’ve eaten lots of their offerings when out for lunch with friends or family - delicious scotch eggs, incredible avocado and bacon on toast, a superb Asian chicken salad.... absolutely everything as been top notch. I seldom have room for cake but they look dreamy!!
The vibe is relaxed and the service is friendly and efficient.

I have been coming to this restaurant for lunch for five years. I have always had a warm welcome and good food. I always have the chicken ceaser salad or the chicken coconut salad. The last two times in September I visited I was given very mean salad portion, and felt it is now very poor value. I feel sad as this was my absolute favourite place to lunch in Bath and now I feel I don’t really want to go back. I am only afford to meet friends once a week or every two weeks for lunch, and if I go home feeling cheated and hungry I feel it’s spoilt my day out.

HI Lisa
Sorry to hear that you had disappointing experience at Cafe Lucca. You are obviously one of our valued regular customer, and I have looked into it. I can promise you that there has been no change in our portion size. In fact rather the opposite. I know we tried some new plate sizes and shapes for presentation ideas, but this has been abandoned now.
I am sure if you come back you will see generous portions. We probably know you so just ask for Vivien or Lucy and I am sure they will look after you personally.
See you soon

This large café occupies one half of an historic building which it shares with a homeware and fashion shop. The shop opens at 10 am, but the café opens earlier.
It is table service and we enjoyed two flat white coffees which cost £6.

We came here for a quick bite to eat and a coffee.
The cafe is spacious and rustic looking with modern tones, there’s also an adjoining shop.
The menu offers a range of soups, paninis and salads. The waitress who served was friendly and loquacious, and even told us they were filming the new Willy wonka film down the road.
The food came out really quickly and was SO GOOD! We had paninis and they were so tasty. They were just under £10 each so not the cheapest, but they’re really worth it!
The coffee was hot and served promptly after ordering. Overall, brilliant cafe for a pit stop. Would highly recommend for couple and friends.

We were on a walking tour and our guide took us past Cafe Lucca. It looked so inviting, we made the 15 minute walk back for lunch and we're not disappointed. Friendly staff, delicious salad and panini, washed down with a very reasonable bottle of wine, we'd definitely recommend.
