Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A really enjoyable experience all round. Good strong Covid measures in place but not in an overwhelming and in-your-face way. Nice menu of lunch options and all the food was very good without exception. Dad's steak looked immense. I loved my tandoori meal. Beer well kept and tasty. Décor very nice without being ostentatious, so you felt comfortable. One section allowed dogs, so we could bring ours and we met several others. But what made it was the staff. Attentive without being always present, happy to give us some time before we ordered, smiling and chatty throughout. When they found it was Dad's birthday they wrote "Happy Birthday" in chocolate sauce on his pudding plate. Little touches like that which will ensure we return.

We have been visiting this pub under the management of Nick and Jo for several year. Friday night special and Sunday roasts. Never had a bad meal. Gets a bit busy on a Sunday and sometimes the service can be slow, but the quality of the food and the service you get is always great.

We booked 2 rooms for ourselves, our teenage daughter and our dog for 6 nights whilst between house moves. We chose The Chalcombe Inn primarily for it's location as my husband and I work in Lansdown and our daughter in the centre of town. The Park and Ride bus stop is a 10 minute (flat) walk away from the pub. The pub has recently been refurbished with new rooms available in what used to be a stable block. The rooms are beautifully decorated to a very high standard with very comfortable beds and tasteful oak furniture and flooring. The bathrooms are spotlessly clean with hot showers and fluffy white towels which are replaced daily. Our daughter loved her comfortable and cosy small double bedroom in the main building.
The welcome we received from Nick and his staff was really warm. Anything we needed we just had to ask....our dog even had his own welcome pack with a dog bowl, blanket and treats.
Breakfast was excellent although I had to try the pancakes several times over the week just to make sure I really liked them!
We would whole-heartedly recommend a stay at The Chalcombe Inn if you are visiting Bath or attending an event at the race course, which is just next door. We will be sorry to leave tomorrow morning but we will be popping back once we move as it will be our local! Well done to Nick and his team for creating a really lovely place to visit and to stay!

Even taking into account that the easing of lockdown has only recently taken place this was probably the worst lunch my family and I have ever had! We had travelled from different parts of the country to attend the interment of our Mothers ashes and thought the venue with its large garden would be perfect as there were nine of us. How wrong we were! The ordering procedure was very complicated and after waiting for ages several of us had to change our choices as they had run out! We then had to start again choosing meals that didn’t really appeal because by then we were starving! The substitutions were cheaper but we were not reimbursed the difference. To cap it all my sister and her husband never actually received their meal and gave up, even though the poor waiter did bring them a glass of water each. Needless to say we will not be repeating the exercise.

We stayed overnight at the Chalcome which overlooked bath racecourse. It was also just a minutes drive from a park & ride so it was very easy to get into the centre of bath without having to negotiate quite heavy traffic or find a parking space.
The hotel room itself was very comfortable and the meals were good value for money although we stayed on a Monday and some of the menu choices were not available. However, there was enough of a choice. Breakfast was also pretty good.

Telling them we wanted to dine at 7pm .we drove the 3 miles told be asked have you reserved. No we called told no need off girl goes comes back sorry we have stopped serving in the garden. But we were told ok.sorry came the reply ok can we have a table side two tables please . I will check says the girl. Another comes back sorry the manager has closed the kitchen. But we rang sorry we closed kitchen as we were so busy disgusted we walked away . Another family of 4arrive asked have you a reservation asked the girl yes and in they were shown. Well for you Charlcombe we got a meal at the Globe corston cost £200so your loss. Now I runs business covid could have finished me but got through it working hard now to recover. Yet you as a business closed by covid seem to have no interest in recovery or customer service

This is the second time we have stayed at the Charlcombe Inn and all I can say is WOW!
Everything about this Inn is fabulous…the staff are so friendly, approachable and polite. The rooms are modern, comfy and clean. The food is amazing, tasty and great quality.
The inn is on the edge of the racecourse, the Inn is dog friendly (didn’t stay with dog this time but did time previously and they provide doggy treats). There is a park and ride a 5 min walk away so can leave car at the inn and use bus into Bath (£3:20 return).
We ate at the Charlcombe Inn on the Saturday evening, ordering a ‘special’ tomahawk steak for tea - AMAZING!!! The breakfasts were great - good selection and so tasty!
My husband accidentally knocked over a lamp (on bedside table) when he was asleep. Spoke to the manager to apologise and pay for breakage but he couldn’t have been kinder and refused to take any money.
When we return to bath and we will…repeatedly, we will always stay here as I just don’t think this place can be beaten.
Hopefully see you near Christmas if not then definitely next year…thank you guys!!

I agree with Charlotte M review...really dispointing lunchtime visit.
We sat outside and although the garden has potential and a wonderful location, there was litter and used serviettes all over the place.
We only had sandwiches, and I would have expected 'real' bread at least, but essentially we had cheap sliced bread and fillings were nothing special. We would have had a better sandwich at home!
All felt very 'lazy' and the location is let down by the lack of quality and attention to details.
We used the venue pre-jab at the racecourse, and considered a return later in the week for other family members having similar....we won't be back

We had made a reservation the waitress said she would bring a menu. We waited and had to go and ask for the menu. At the same time as placing the food order we asked for drinks. Again we waited, we could see our drinks sat on the bar for ten minutes whilst the bartender filled the glass washer. We had to go to the bar to ask for the drinks to be brought to the table. Twice we asked how long before the food would be served. We had been in the restaurant over an hour before food eventually arrived. The food was overpriced and mediocre to say the least. The staff didn’t seem at all interested in the customers even though very few people were in the restaurant. We asked to see the manager who was not all interested in our observations or criticism. He seemed to want sympathy for the lack of staff. Altogether an experience NOT to be repeated.

We’ve just got back from a weekend away for my husbands birthday.
We were a little hesitant to stay out of Bath but it’s so easy with the park and ride a five minute walk away and it takes the stress away from having to drive into the centre of Bath and finding somewhere to park.
I will add however in the evening it is a dark path with no street lights but we just left the car in the park and ride as it’s free to park so no extra cost than it would be anyway.
The room was spacious and cosy and a treat to come back to being lovely and warm as it was a cold December day. Nice comfortable bed and lovely spacious em suite.
Staff are extremely cheerful and helpful and the attention to detail is lovely with Christmas wreaths on each door of the accommodation rooms and Christmas trees etc in the main pub.
Now the food!!!!! It was sublime!! The breakfast was delicious being one the best cooked breakfasts we have ever had.. we also ate in the restaurant one of the evenings and again it was exceptional with mouth watering choices it was so hard to choose!!
As soon as we were home we have booked for next year for my husbands birthday too as when we looked only had two rooms left so quickly booked it showing how popular this little gem is!!
Thank you for a fantastic stay!

Visited the Charlcombe Inn today at 2pm for lunch. Food was amazing no doubt. We did ask about slow service and were told they had staff shortage which we accepted.
The only thing I would change is personal preference, sachets for condiments let’s them down. By all means don’t leave condiments on tables, but if a customer asks for salt and pepper bring dispensers that have been wiped with antibacterial wipe. If mayonnaise or ketchup is requested bring small ramekin that you have dispensed into from original dispenser.
All staff were brilliant.

As disabled customers we found our room to be excellent, wet room will suit even wheelchair bound guests, high firm comfortable bed even switches on walls higher up. Full control of own heating. Superbly designed accommodation.
Then the food is all made using excellent quality ingredients, every meal was delicious. The staff and management are all really courteous and happy. Plus a lovely selection of beers, wines and quality spirits.
Great location for horse racing fans or anyone wanting to be near Bath and all the other attractions in the area.
If we come back to the area this will be our 1st choice accommodation.
Everything, food, drinks and accommodation all at fair/ even underpriced for quality.
Thank you Nigel and your team.

We stayed 2 nights here at the end of June and it was a really pleasant stay.
We stayed in the Kelston room which was really nice. It was cosy and extremely clean. The shower was lovely and powerful however not very hot. We spoke to the manager who informed us that we needed to push a small button on the temperature handle.
Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We needed more milk for tea and they gave us cute little bottles with fresh milk.
We had dinner here on the first night and it was nice but we would have liked to try the roast dinner. As it was a Sunday they had run out of quite a few items for the roast so we had to order off the main menu.
It got very hot during the night even though the windows were open so the first night we didn’t get much sleep however the next morning we were offered the use of a fan which was kindly put in our room that day.
Breakfast at the Charlcombe was delicious and absolutely huge. We couldn’t eat the rest of the day! Service was quick and friendly.
Bath city centre was about 10 mins away and it was easy to get to. If you stay in Bath, definitely give this place a try. We’d stay again if we’re in the area in future.

Atmosphere was really nice and the server was great and attentive, however despite claims of having a variety of vegetarian/vegan options, there was only one veggie option and one vegan option.. so a bit disappointing really!
Ordered the vegan burger which the menu said came with salad but it came with chips instead.. Would love to see more salad/healthier options next time please!

We booked a table for Sunday lunch, we asked for a particular table in a corner as we wanted to take our greyhound so she could flop down out of the way. We were looked after very well, table service was very good, we didn't have long to wait for our drinks or food, which first rate. All together it was a very pleasant experience, this is the only time we have eaten out during the pandemic, because we feel at ease with this place, well done to all the staff
