Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited for the first time on a busy Saturday lunch to have the new tasting menu which was launched on the day. The ala carte menu was also available. We received a warm and friendly greeting and were shown to our table upstairs. The...table was initially too close to another table so we asked for an unoccupied window seat which should have been offered to us. The dining room has a nice laid back ambience. The tasting menu was exceptional. The bread with flavoured butter was excellent. The arancini was so light and crispy with a lovely flavour. The cod dish was a take on fish and chips and was truly delicious. The mushroom and truffle lasagne was superb. The main course was a choice of duck or pork and we both loved the succulent duck dish. The desert was a black forest parfait and was a little disappointing after the great quality of the other dishes. The service from the head waiter who served most of our courses was excellent. The other waiting on staff were not quite as good but were enthusiastic. The food despite the underwhelming desert was exceptional and deserves 5 stars. It was worth the 70 miles round trip. Good value for this quality. Highly recommended.More

Great food, great service. Always a good place to recommend to friends. I've been many times but my friend had never been into Lichfield before so I suggested going, we managed to get an early table luckily and neither of us left disappointed.

My wife and I had a fantastic night here a few weeks prior to our visit last night, but unfortunately our experience last night was terribly disppointing. For balance and completness the food itself is very good, tasty elevated pub fare. The cod was well...cooked, the chorizo jam had a very punchy flavour and the sauce was well balanced. The beef cheek croquette was again tasty amd not too heavy. The good enjoyed. However, the night was spoilt by the service which was frankly awful. Sat down for dinner at 6.45. Took an age to be asked for our order. starter served at 7.45. mains at 8.45. very slow. fine in isolulation not a big deal we were not in a rush. The food when it did come out, whilst tasty was tepid in temprature. The side orders of bbq potatoes and triple cooked chips didnt come out with the means and we had to chase this up. The side orders came out after we had already eaten half our main courses. After our mains had been eaten we were told that if we wanted desserts we would need to eat down stairs, we questioned the fact it had taken 2 1/2 hours for us tp be served and eat two courses , and to be spoken to in an arrogant blaise way was poor. When the desserts came out, or so we thought, they were wrong courses. Back they went to the kitchen , more waiting no apologies. After eating we did move tables and we were given a free drink, a nice touch. However the big and frankly the nail in the coffin was when visiting the bathroom hearing waiting staff bad mouthing our party saying that they would not leave a tip etc. We hadnt even been presented witg the bill at this stage. At the end of the meal waiting staff commenting a laughing to each other looking over at our table. Extremely poor and unprofessional. A real real shame. You will see from my earlier review I speak as I find and real wanted to like Larder but we wont be back again after this experience.More

Came to treat my wife of one month to a special dinner. Found the front of house very attentive (tattoo on forearm, didn’t see name), made pleasant small talk on way to table and started us with drinks that came faster than I could sit...down. The room was louder than I anticipated a Michelin rated restaurant too be and almost resembled a ‘curry house’ environment, lucky for me we love curry houses! This comment is only a minor detail, made blurry by the undeniable attentiveness shown by waiting staff. Noticed at least two pairs of eyes scanning all tables, at all times. My wife wanted carbonara (as did I) but we wanted to add chicken. Slightly bashful given the accreditation of the venue the waitress quietly made a request directly to the chef and chicken was added. A wink from across the room to confirm put us both at ease. Ordered fries with starters which never came, once communicated to waitress, were removed with 100 apologies. Gave tip anyway as it was deserved. Only takeaway or advice I’d pass as a first time customer would be to somehow figure out a way to sharpen the ambience. We appreciate that’s mission almost impossible. Thanks for a great night x Russ and Mel FlynnMore

Booked a table for a Friday evening meal, greeted with a warm welcome and smile. Food was amazing, starter of blue cheese beignet was delicious followed by the Cod, again cooked to perfection and lovely. Carbonara was moorish. Finished with choc and orange mille feuille,...the perfect pudding. Special mention to Maddie, attentive but not intrusive, just great!More

We came to The Larder with family for a Saturday evening meal and were really impressed by the attention to detail on presentation, service and overall atmosphere. Although the menu isn’t too extensive, there are some great classic favourites which hit the spot and went...down very well with our party - I particularly enjoyed the Carbonara which is a favourite dish of mine but one that I rarely order in restaurants as too often it tastes very ‘eggy’, but the chefs at Larder did it perfectly. The only complaint I have is with the chocolate orange mille feuille on the dessert menu… the pastry was not at all the right pastry for a mille feuille as it was not crumbly with lots of thin layers and had the taste and texture of a savoury biscuit, which made the dessert quite a disappointment as I was expecting it to be really well done like the other dishes. That said, we had a lovely evening overall and would love to return soon!More
