Just gets better

This is our second review of this amazing restaurant that offers exceptional food at very reasonable prices. We use the takeaway menu and have never failed to be utterly impressed by the quality of the meals. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and whilst, for very good reason it can become very busy orders are always ready. Simply wonderful and of course highly recommended.

Shimla Palace Takeaway Delivery

We've had a takeaway from the Shimla Palace in Rugeley every week for the last 4 weeks. The service is excellent, from the moment you place your order to the food being delivered to your door. The food always arrives on time and social distancing is always met, the delivery drivers wear masks and gloves too. I am so grateful to Shimla Palace for giving us something to look forward to in this unprecedented time. A big thank you to all the staff at Shimla and a special mention to Faz, who is so, so helpful. Also, if you have dietary requirements just ask Faz he really knows his stuff. Excellent food and service. Thank you Shimla.

Very lovely customer service, called up to book a table came across to the restaurant manager Moh who was really nice and friendly and directed me there. Got there was greeted through the door and was served by Yusuf who was really friendly recommended me many different dishes which was the best restaurant dishes I’ve had in a very long time. Loved it so much that I went back the next day, friendly staff, friendly people, lovely food, probably the best place to dine in, in the UK. The next day ended up having so much fun that ended up having a laugh and so much fun after closing hours and ended up having a drink with Yusuf. Have had a time of my life at this restaurant and would definitely recommend to go there without fail, whether it’s for takeaway or eat in. Thank you once again to the team and Yusuf for being brilliant.

Food Review

Very poor. Spent nearly £90 on a large order that was meant to take an hour. We waited nearly 2 hours and when we arrived we realised that they had not offered any complimentary popadoms or extras such as mango chutney. After paying we studied the receipt and we were charged over £5 for 8 popadoms after spending the amount we had there. We went back in to ask if we could have the popadoms for free as we had payed nearly £90. They refused and handed us a menu and said “here’s our menu read it and you’ll know our prices” . Obviously their motive isn’t to help the customer and we asked if they would take the popadoms off the order to reduce the extortionate price. Disappointed, we had hoped for a tasty meal, however all of the dishes were extremely bland, the cheese nan had no cheese in it, onion Bhajis were over cooked and some meals were cold. Will not be going back.

We are sorry you didn’t like our food and as you mentioned about the charge on your popadoms and when you asked us to take off the popadoms we happily refunded your charge for the popadoms. You can go any shops and spend lots of money and then say oh can I have that free because you’ve spent so much and hope they do give it you,I’m sorry to say that we do not do this unless we wish to do so in our will and we normally put you 1 or 2 popadoms in free any ways but since you ordered we charged for the popadoms and we even topped up with few extra few and dips. Our popadoms are 0.70p for one. We also gave you a menu just to say we didn’t charged you extra so you know the price. We are sorry we couldn’t look after you as you wanted. Eat in or takeaway just the same quality!

Had our first takeaway last night after numerous visits of eating in. Super food, not swimming with grease like other take outs we have had from other restaurants. We have a child with a nut allergy and the staff were totally on it when taking our order over the phone, we also requested no fresh coriander and that was also adhered to. We ordered a sag aloo(amazing), peshwari naan and garlic naans, a balti, a tawa special and shimla special. Complimentary popadums and dips came too with meal. Nothing was left, amazing food and lovely staff.

Having visited the Shimla palace and had takeaways for years I must say it is my favourite place to eat, the lads at the Shimla are so friendly and over the years I've celebrated many a family birthday with them (including my memorable 18th). I must say being able to still have a takeaway from them during the lockdown was a highlight. Continually great service and food! Whilst this review is a little late I know their values and customer service will have not faltered. I very much look forward to visiting in person again soon.

First time we’ve used this restaurant looking forward to our meal that just cost £43 took hour and half to arrive it was cold no cheese in the Nan bread and the curries were very bland just terribly disappointing had a . Few mouthfuls each and went. Straight in the bin what a pile of tasteless sludge called up to complain they wanted the food back unfortunately as it was thrown in the bin a photo was not good enough they offered a 25 % discount on next order but won’t be using again

Visited with my wife this evening on way home from the cinema. Restaurant full with many people also collecting take aways. Warm welcome on entry , all staff friendly and approachable. Food was cooked fresh to order, piping hot, beautifully presented and most importantly tasted fantastic. If you enjoy tasty Indian cuisine served in a friendly environment then look no further. 5 stars for food and service!

Outstanding!

We dropped by and asked if they could cater for a small birthday party (5 people). They did and it couldn’t have been more perfect! Every aspect was outstanding. Thank you so much guys. We will be back! I can’t recommend this place highly enough. The food was awesome, the service was impeccable, really good value, but what was probably the best was the genuine friendliness of all of the staff.

Best table "in" the house

What a meal! The food just cannot be improved upon. I've yet to find a better tasting Madras and the Tandoori mixed grill was the best ever. All the food was well presented and served with a smile. Attentive and friendly staff with a great sense of humour made our meal even better! I'm not saying where the best table is as it is our secret!! Every table is a good table,though, but they don't have the ambience ours had. The experience is well worth the distance we have to travel and I highly recommend booking in for a meal there or grab a takeaway. You will not be disappointed.

Lovely meal, great staff

Our first time here, meeting family for our daughter’s 10th birthday. Right from the start the staff made her feel like a special guest, sitting her at the head of the table in a private room. Throughout the evening the staff were all lovely and very attentive and happy to sort out the birthday cake (brought in ourselves) and joined in with the Happy Birthday!! They also handed her a birthday gift at the end. She loved it, a real surprise! As for the food, everything we ate was very tasty and spiced nicely. It was empty plates all round, including from the children. We’ll certainly be coming back here and want to thank all the staff again for helping make it a special evening.

Lettuce with a curry really

Honest review. Meal .it was expensive and poor .it was just warm,I had lamb curry there where tiny little bits of lamb cut small to make it look more.and there was lettuce all around my plate.lettuce with a curry weird. Now the worst bit,we waited 1 hour 45mins for our meal ridiculous. I found it very disappointing. Expected better

Worst food ever!

Very dissatisfied overall. Food was extremely bland, tasteless, snd only just warm. Chicken was very dry, and lamb appeared like it had been boiled in water as it was grey in colour and tasted of nothing. Very slow service throughout the evening. To top it all off a waiter decided it would be a good idea to vacuum the carpet whilst people eating, snd incredibly vacuumed around people’s feet. First snd last visit. Very poor value for money.

Thank you for your review much appreciated. We are sorry you didn’t find the meals you had was bland may be it’s the meals you ordered as we have so many dishes that are different in taste and spices. I have checked the camera to see on the day why they would hoover round your feet but I have seen the waiters cleaning the rice that customers dropped on the floor and they left so we just cleaned the floor for next customers. I’m sure you would not like to seat on dirty areas. May be next time please mention what strength you would like with your dishes as every place has different strength. Once again we are sorry we couldn’t make your night as you wanted. Many thanks Faz

Really great meal

We visited whilst on holiday recently and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We received a very warm welcome from the staff and were quickly seated in the restaurant's pleasant surroundings. They offer an extensive menu (almost too much to choose from!) and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout and nothing was too much trouble - even catering for the needs of the picky eater in our group!. Highly recommended, and we will certainly return when next in the area.

The worst dining experience I’ve had in a long time.

Went here with my Family, a table of 6. Restaurant was half full, by the time we had paid the bill and left the restaurant it was 2 hours and 50 minutes. The service was woeful. Was sat in a corner and forgotten about. The food was awful, my children had Chicken tikka masala and this tasted like Heinz tomato soup. My wife had the shimla special, there was nothing special about this. My wife has a really bad stomach now. Even the Naan bread didn’t taste of anything. A real shame as I heard some great reports about this place. The beer was ok though.
