Came here for Sunday lunch and it was delicious! Plenty of vegetables, gravy and meat. The beef was really good (and I’m mega fussy with my meat) - all very lean, cooked perfectly and tasty 😋 great value for money and the service is always great here. Definitely recommend :)

After spending the last 12 months touring all of the local pubs, restaurants, fancy bistros and more the quality of food no matter what you order at The Rifleman is up there with the best of them. My last meal out of the 50+ meals I've had there was the Chilli Con Carne, a rare dish for local pubs around Staffordshire as many have taken this dish off their menu but thankfully The Rifleman kept there's on and it's spectacular. The meat always tastes ridiculously fresh from your standard steak to their wonderful spice nights on Tuesday evening. The nachos once upon a time were some of the best i've had in the UK (exclusive Panchos in Manchester) but after getting a new supplier a year or so ago sadly the nachos are just 'good' now rather than great. A warm friendly environment, the staff are usually very warm and friendly and it's the perfect pub to visit in the winter, it's cozy, the dishes are wonderful and you can't ask for much more than that. Highly recommend.

Not visited in a few years but heard the Sunday roasts were worth trying. We booked in the afternoon and although thete was a specials board on offer and the full menu available we decided on sticking to the roast, which very reasonably priced for one two or three courses. With a choice of 3 meats, you can pay extra for a selection. Choose from turkey beef or lamb with roasts yorkshire and gravy. All arrived on a large plate with veg, which was carrots peas and cabbage, cauliflower cheese and bolied potatoes as sides. Absolutely ample potions, its great value for money. We were shown to our table and offered a choice of sitting in the bar or restaurant, both clean and warm the open fires were lit. This isn't fine dining or a modern pub but warm, friendly with traditional charm. We weren't drinking although a good choice of real ales were on offer at the bar. We had soft drinks that were served to our table by a pleasant waitress who took our order. Everything arrived as ordered and we were offered sauces. I love peas, although not with my roast dinner, cauliflower cheese was delicious and a frozen yorkie but for the money we didn't mind, although lovely they are a faff to make and not everyone eats them, maybe offer stuffing as an alternative? All in all excellent value for money. If anything we thought too much choice, I don't know how they manage the menu. Might be trying a bit too hard and could do really delicious dishes if they narrowed the menu down to focus on a few specials and Sunday roast. Although the people who ordered the burgers may have been disappointed because they did look good, and huge! Also the chips looked to be homemade, always a crowd pleaser! We will definitely go again and try the pub menu on a different day. If you are hungry and want good value pub grub you wont go wrong.

If I could give less than one star I would, We have been going to the rifleman for 16 years and we will not be returning after tonight. We went for a family meal for my birthday….. we asked for medium cooked steak but it was still breathing on the plate, after having it taken back 3 times to be cooked more it came back no different, the chicken was dry and completely tasteless, my steak knife struggled to cut through the black pudding, my sons pizza was a frozen microwave pizza, 5 chips each, the scampi was like it had been cooked in salt, It’s not exactly a cheap place to eat and we don’t mind paying for good food but disappointed doesn’t come close.

Very disappointed with our overall experience, we had booked a large table and had to pre order our food (no problem with that) 2 people didn’t turn up out of illness which we notified the waitress as soon as we knew this, We were NOT told that due to the kitchen already making the food that we were still liable to pay for those meals until we asked for the receipt. Food was varied, lasagne was nice, and those that had the lamb shank said that was tasty too but the Sunday dinners were really nothing to rave about, by the time we received everything individually it was all cold to eat and the beef was super chewy (reminiscent of a school dinner) no one even asked how our food was! My daughter asked for an egg with her meal which was pre ordered that never turned up in the end having to remind the waitress which she told me oh I’m so sorry we forgot due to the fuss over a lamb shank that was missed off the pre order, lamb shank that we were told they had ran out of but then magically appeared with a lamb shank 🤷‍♀️ But overall service was sadly below par but I understood the girls serving were busy so wasn’t to put off by that but when we asked for the bill and they found out that a group of twenty of us wanted to split the bill you’d of thought we had three heads, apparently if you book a table and want to split the bill you need to tell them over the phone just to warn them in advance. Because when the lady that was taking payment said “oh you’re splitting the bill well no one told me” and lady next to her said “no one told me either”, as if they’ve never split a bill before. To sum up not the bestest experience overall sadly as from the outside it’s a quaint looking place, the ladies toilets could do with a little refresh too (wiping down the mould from the ceiling) But we shan’t be returning.

Had the steak pie and my partner had the cottage pie - we were both very pleased with both the quality and size of the portions. You can always appreciate proper home made food. Staff were also pleasant as was the pint of Abbots! Staff were polite and friendly as was the Landlady. We will be back.

We have visited the Rifleman a few times recently for Sunday lunches, one of which was a group visit to celebrate a friend's anniversary. Firstly, the staff are very friendly and attentive. Secondly, the whole place is very clean and inviting. Thirdly, the food is exceptional, hot, tasty and very, very good value for money. Recommended.

We have been the Rifleman quite a few times this year, yesterday was particularly enjoyable. The meal was served by the very pleasant staff, it arrived promptly and was hot and tasty- very generous portions! As we were so full from our meal we took our sweet home with us. Definitely our go to place for a Sunday dinner and 100% recommended. See you soon

Here for dinner on Thursday night, Lasagna and chilli were both excellent, all homemade and very tasty. Staff were great, young lass who served us was polite, cheery and attentive. Miles better than any of the big chain pubs, highly recommended.

We arrived today with a friend. Ordered our starters, I had soup, my friend had mussels with 'rustic bread' I had to send my bread back as it was clearly a part baked baguette, that was pingged in the microwave. It was solid, same can be said for my friends 'rustic bread' awful! Our mains were OK, home made Yorkshire puddings, are you having a laugh, aunt Bessie's at best. My husband and friend asked for one on top of their meal £1 each..really! For a frozen yorkie. I had a two meal deal of that's what it's called. My friend ate off the main menu. My husband at the start said I'll have a three meal. The bill came and they charged him for a two meal with a pudding extra at £5.95. When challenged the waitress said u ordered a two meal. He really didn't. Anyway we have been here a few times. Dont think we will return anytime soon. Always has to be on their side. Tonight we spent nearly £90. Hey ho.

Just had a a bit of a birthday lunch for Dad and Sisters birthdays and the food was beautiful, a lot of choices including alternatives for the non-meat eaters in the family and the children - Lexi was particularly happy with her little jug of cream on the plate and George was only interested in his huge portion of chocolate ice-cream. It's a very hot day but the pub was cool inside for dining, the facilities are very clean and there is hand sanitiser at the entrance to the restaurant. The service was excellent and everyone was very full as the portions are generous. Thank you to all of the staff for a fuss free Sunday lunch

Great food and service. We booked this venue because it was local and recommended. It didn’t disappoint. They catered for over 30 people in one sitting, and yet the service was great , food was great and the presentation was amazing. I has lasagna and it came out with salad and garlic bread set on the plate like a picture. Other people had fish and chips , yet again the presentation was amazing, looked like whale and chips , home made chips I might add . Steak pie was steak, jacket potato was set on the plate , with cheese ,bacon and chicken, salad mmmm. There was nothing to complain about with any of the 30 + meals or great service.

Visited with friends, 4 of us in total. We ordered Sunday Roast and we were served very poor offerings, very poor meals indeed. Certainly can’t recommend the place, we will not ever be returning. Not going to go into detail enough to say we should have refused to pay and walk out. It was very very poor. Not The Rifleman’s finest hour, shame really, they can see what they served up, no chef / cook worth their salt would have let it go out.

We ate at The Rifleman last night and the food was second to none! I had a sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection. My friends had belly pork and chicken fajitas, both said that the food was amazing! The service was attentive and made sure everyone had everything they needed. I will definitely be making The Rifleman a regular thing!

Well what can I say been here for lovely evening meal tonight, and I know a couple Of bad reviews did not put me off,it was well worth the visit, the food was lovely and very reasonably priced,as I heard someone say the food must be from Iceland and frozen,I would probably say it’s very fresh and plentiful. The staff are always friendly and attentive to detail. Will return ASAP. Alex you are a credit to this gastro pub.
