Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

No que outside on a Saturday lunch time, this should have been our red flag. I had a 'medium ' cod . Loads of batter & not a lot of fish. I shared chips with hubby who got a ' large ' cod. I feel...as it was towards the closing time I got the dregs . No where as good as it used to be I'm afraid.More

So looking forward to our Fish & Chip supper, but it was oh so disappointing. Started with the rude, abrupt lady serving, who almost threw our order at us. Sneered when we asked “do you serve takeaway tea” Greasy odd taste which now I’ve read...other reviews presume is because cooked in beef fat. Felt instantly sick after eating. What a shame after friends recommended so I didn’t bother looking at Trip Advisor first ! Now I can see so many bad reviews I wish I had looked.More

Fish bony and undercooked Chips undercooked Person serving couldn’t count to 4 and needed my help to get the order correct Only thing going for it is that it’s in a good location and is pretty cheap. But then the portion sizes are an absolute...joke. Battered sausages are 3-4”. A large chips is roughly about half the size of a normal chip shop. Yet the queues are huge.More

We had sausage and chips, although it was not busy no one else in there we had to wait at least 10 minutes. The staff were not very pleasant and the food not very nice. The chip portions were small also A few days later...we went to the other fish and chip shop on same road, on opposite side of street and it was delicious and staff pleasant.More

We'd read about the quality of the fish and chips here, so decided to visit. The quality was absolutely first class, and the only reason I haven't given a 5 star is due to portion size. The batter on the cod was light, crispy and...non-greasy. The chips were probably the best I have ever had, again without a drop of grease. When we'd finished eating out of the paper there was barely a spot of grease. My only other gripe was I ordered and paid for x2 cutlery sets but did not receive them, even though I'd asked if they were in the wrapped meals.More

Great fish and chips in a gorgeous location. We love Aldeburgh and it was such a treat to enjoy fresh fish and chips last weekend overlooking the sea. We queued for nearly ten minutes but service was prompt and food was hot and delicious.

OMG they cook all their food in BEEF FAT 🤮 but don’t let the customer know until it’s too late. Not only is it incredibly unhealthy but we have vegetarians and vegans in our family who innocently had pineapple fritter and chips before realising. Disgusting....AVOIDMore

Went to Aldeburgh for F & C, on the basis people "rave" about it, and if I'm truly honest was underwhelmed with the experience. The Chips were under-seasoned, and you didn't get much time to apply salt and vinegar (or, it was watered down), yet...either way left the chips tasteless. The fish was expensive X2 , and was more batter than fish, with the fish that was in the batter being grossly over-cooked to the pont of being rubbery and generally not nice to eat. It's not very often I don't finish eating my fish and chip lunch, but this was one of those occasions where it ended up in the bin! Had it not been for the queing, I would have returned it!More

Food and service hugely unimpressive. The portions have shrunk massively from last year the fish was over cooked and the service from the lady in the shop today was pretty poor and rude

Was travelling between Lowestoft & Ipswich and decided to take a diversion via Aldeburgh to try this place. Fish was a tad smaller than I expected, but the taste was exceptional. True example of quality over quantity. Chips were brilliant, large portion for a medium!...Crispy and fluffy, made better by the beef dripping. Worth doing the diversion again.More

This has to be the WORST Fish and Chip shop on our Island. My brother and I had called in for Fish and Chips so we could go sit on the beach with them. There were a few people waiting but our order was taken...very quickly. I was a tad surprised when our order was being wrapped and handed over within a few minutes. I commented to the server and he just smiled and said we had ordered the right thing🤔. We found ourselves a nice bench on the beach so all good so far! Then I opened the cremated fish (Cod)! I couldn’t believe my eyes. This awful cremated offering was truly shocking and cold to boot! Even the chips were poor and cold. I was so disappointed. I pulled off a piece fish and then quick as a flash, a Seagull who had obviously been planning the snatch, swooped in from behind me and swiped it from my hand. Well serves him right, he probably choked on it. I wouldn’t have been able to eat it anyway so I wasn’t as outraged as I might have been had the fish been edible. Give this place a wide berth, there are much better Fish and Chips to be had elsewhere 😒More

The fish is so incredibly fresh! It is usually caught that morning and brought ashore in Aldeburgh, so it is good for the environment too! The fish is well battered, not too thick or oily, while the chips are excellent chip shop chips. Eating them...on the beach is just the best experience.More

The queues outside weren’t wrong. Ordered cod and chips and the sausages (which are actually sausages in batter) The cod was lovely and fresh and the batter was light and crisp. The chips were cooked perfectly. Very tasty and happy with our choice of dinner.
