A very pleasant evening spent at the Angel last night. First rate service and being vegetarian we appreciated having three vegetarian choices for mains. The food was very tasty and beautifully presented which made the experience all the more special.

The Angel Hotel is a lovely imposing building centrally placed in Bury St Edmunds. We went on a Sunday evening. The food was good - if a little pricey. The service wasn't great - a long wait for the main course and drinks that needed chasing up each time. The experience lacked the attention to detail that make a restaurant... More

We did have a nice time here for a birthday afternoon tea. There was a good selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones. The sandwiches were fresh, however the cakes didn't seem to be. They tasted like they had come out of a freezer and had been shop brought. They certainly were not fresh! The Cake stands were plastic and illuminous... More

An odd experience, this restaurant. The Angel has pretensions as a fine hotel and we found our stay comfortable but the food definitely isn't consistent. (Service was fine however and there was an excellent choice of wines.) Our starters were good, tho I will admit I had the tiniest bit of pan fried mackerel I ever saw. It was accompanied... More

I had a poor experience here last Christmas and was a little hesitant when I was invited here for afternoon tea, I needn't have worried. We were a party of five and three of us decided to have a cream tea and two had the full afternoon tea. Our cream and jam was plentiful and the scone was very nice.... More

I'd booked for 1pm at the Angel on Saturday.Sept 9th Alas! no parking on Angel Hill because of the impending 'Girls'Night Out' and the hotel car park were only taking residents'cars. I was on the verge of cancelling our booking for lunch, as with two disabled people we could not park far away. However, the Council representative had pity on... More

Eat there one evening while staying there and not disappointed at all that we did. Good food and a decent, not too expensive wine list.

Description
The Angel Eaterie has many admirers and is a popular destination for Suffolk locals. The art filled dining room providing a gallery for the creative talents of the kitchen. The dishes are modern and predominantly British but, the Head Chef continually surprises with a curious twist of something deliciously different. Fresh local produce is sourced from surrounding market gardeners and pheasant, venison or fish will always depend on what's available for the menu that day. The breads baked in house are testament to the care taken to achieve that special taste; dip into the olive oil then take your pick of the 30 varieties of quality wines all served by the glass and wait for further temptations. The Angel Eaterie is open all day for food & drink.
