I enjoyed the food here, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. The venison was excellent. The raspberry dessert was a bit sloppy and needed something to give it a bit of crunch though. We felt it was very expensive though. It cost just over £100 for three people, with only one beer and one Coke on the bill, and no starters other than poppadoms. Similar meals elsewhere would probably be in the £50-£60 region. This is the only reason I probably wouldn’t return.

We have now been here 3 times and each time it has been really lovely food. If you fancy an Indian meal which is a bit different to the norm then you will enjoy here. Although quite expensive, it is definitely worth a visit. The food is really tasty and the lamb chops are great :). I have also had the scallops but felt that they were too expensive for just 2 scallops, so wont have them again! The duck starter is also really good. There is a wide selection of mains, including venison! All that we have had has been good. We live 30 mins drive from here but it has become our friday evening place to go. We would definitely recommend it.

This was booked by my friends for a surprise birthday meal, as someone with lots of allergies I haven’t been able/ comfortable eating at an Indian restaurant for a long time. They made me feel very at ease as the waiter and chefs were obviously very knowledgeable on allergens and the menu and made it clear what I could and couldn’t have, which as people with severe allergy will know, isn’t easy to find! The meal itself was delicious, generous portions and perfect service. Excited to have a local Indian restaurant to visit again!

Such a shame to have to write a bad review, but feel I need to after last night’s experience. The portion sizes here have never been generous but the quality and taste have made up for that previously, but this time we were absolutely astounded by the chicken tikka starter, well if you blinked you’d have missed it ! I can only describe it as one chicken mini fillet ( at most ), cut into slithers and arranged into a pretty little pyramid for £7 each, no salad or anything else on the plate bar a small pot of mint sauce. Seriously it’s not Mayfair or the West End but a small Suffolk market town, maybe we were unlucky and it’s not always like that. Honestly cannot believe I didn’t take a photo as nobody could believe it without seeing it but was in shock ! Also the thought of someone ordering it as a main course for £14 was hilarious I would like to see their reaction! The main course was very tasty and portion size was fine so lesson learnt for us not to bother ordering starters next time, if there is a next time. Considering how high the prices are it’s also disappointing that they put a 10% service charge on the bill too.

Extraordinary! Wow ! Incredible! Best meal we have had, to say this was a meal that made myself and my girlfriend question what wizardry was happening in the kitchen is an understatement, this is not just the best , but by far the beat meal we’ve ever had, this is a restaurant that I would drive 100 miles to eat in. I can’t recommend it enough. The flavours took me to a place of wonderment, the service was perfect, I kid you not this is a true 10/10, it should have not just one, but many Michelin stars.

I decided to dine out the week after my birthday because my celebratory holiday had been cancelled & when on holiday I would dine out each evening. I chose the Montaz this evening and I was totally overwhelmed by the courteous service when I arrived. The restaurant is COVID-19 compliant to the highest degree. It is an elegant dining room with the tables well spaced to a achieve safe dining experience. I chose calamari pakora with samphire, passion fruit dressing and lemon grass mayonnaise; which was unbelievably good. Light, spicy and utterly delicious. My main course was monkfish tandoor with pilau rice and saag aloo served with the most wonderful kaffir lime, lemon grass, Nilgiri korma sauce. Having never tasted wine from India, I chose Chenin Blanc Maharashata from Sula vineyards. It was a perfect food match. I cannot recomnend the Montaz enough. It is that good.

From the warm welcome to the equally friendly ending to my meal, the whole dining experience was perfect. I went as a solitary diner as part of my birthday week celebrations under COVID19 guidelines. Instead of Florence, I found myself trying out this well established dining haunt for the first time and could not believe that I had been missing out on such an amazing dining treat. The food was served like dishes of art creations and tasted exquisite; layers of spices, mellow tangs of citrus and the most out of this world colours. I even tried a glass of Indian Chenin Blanc which matched my food brilliantly. It was recommended by the waiter and he was proved absolutely right. The restaurant is completely COVID19 compliant but not in an obtrusive manner. I highly recommend this restaurant and shall return to di e there soon.

We came to Montaz for the first time on a Monday night. It was busy but social distancing being observed, all the staff in masks/ shields etc and the food was delicious. Crispy Kale Chat and the north Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken were both particularly good. Initially we thought the portions looked small but actually there was a lot of meat in the dishes we had so it was plenty. Would definitely recommend

Authentic, flavour packed and classy.... Sums up my experiences in just a few words. Consistently delivering great food, with an equally great service. The menu also has some interesting surprises, as well as all the dishes you would expect. I also love that they modify dishes to suit tastes. My go to when I’m craving some spice!

Great food selection, without being a too overbearing menu. All good we had was fresh and tasty with portion sizes reasonable but not too heavy - all at a reasonable price of £30 a head ish with a drink. Service was spot on as well. Would return

An incredibly special dining experience in the finest Indian Restaurant in Suffolk. Once youve been here, it puts all the others into perspective. Everything is carefully delivered and top quality from light poppadoms, tasty mains and hand made desserts. Properly made coffee, coke served from a glass bottle and perfect service. Weve had Indian in Londons Mayfair similar to this and must say still rate Montaz better. Perfect for that special occasion.

This is a significant step up from your standard Indian restaurant. It is a bit more expensive, but the food is excellent. We had Goat & Potato Curr, Butter chicken, Lemon & Chilli Rice and Ginger & Honey Naan. It was all great. Good service too. Very accommodating and good safety protocols during Covid.

Just wonderful ! Returned to Montaz from London with my husband for his birthday - the staff were all super friendly and helpful , the atmosphere buzzing even on a Monday and the food absolutely out of this world . We had poppadoms and homemade pickles to begin with followed by Lucknow chops ( small size) Ox Cheek , Butter Chicken , 1 Honey and Ginger and 1 Peshwari Naan . The pride in their product was evident and the attention to detail was superb - loved the warmed plates , hot towels and complimentary chocolates. A massive thanks to Montaz for a memorable evening .

We had a great meal here after a long day. Very welcoming, friendly and efficient service. Interesting menu with usual favourites plus more. All our choices were delicious (especially the ox cheek samosas, butter chicken, monkfish with amazing sauce). Would recommend.

A big dip in quality and value for money since our last visit. This was once a star in Newmarket with subtle and refined cuisine but it has become a mediocre Indian restaurant. The draft Cobra beer tasted stale, the main course dishes were overloaded with sauce and chilli heat and the service charge of 10% is unwarranted. There were some positives that matched previous refinement, like the ox cheek samosa starter and the honey and garlic nan bread. We’ve always recommended this restaurant to friends who visit Newmarket, not any more. There are better quality restaurants in which to enjoy a night out.
