After reading some negative feedback on here, I was concerned. However we decided to stick with it and so so glad we did. Honestly, the best welcome by the owners / managers, this immediately gave us a good feel. Outdoor seating is set in a lovely garden, views are exceptional. Service was friendly and quick. We all loved our meals, drinks were reasonably priced and a local IPA for my husband was a treat (though I do recommend it is served colder). Highly recommend a visit!

We went for supper after a walk in the Surrey Hills. The pub garden has stunning views over the countryside. Anna and Charlotte our waitresses were brilliant - noticing whenever we wanted something, without being intrusive. The crab salad with fries and ploughmans were excellent - fresh, tasty and arrived quickly. Every outside table has a huge umbrella so it would be ok in the rain or if very hot outside. Highly recommended

We stopped here for a bite to eat after a walk at Box Hill. The entrance felt quite magical with the fairy lights and hedge. All COVID secure and 1 way system in place with staff wearing masks. Local beers were a real treat. Pie & Mash was great (Chicken & Leek) - all members of our party were happy with the food. The chef also knocked up a special dish for our friend who suffers with stomach issues which was a nice touch. The young lad (he mentioned he was new) who served us was real attentive and properly sorted us out. Manager/Owner also came over and had a chat with us. Great pub with great food/beers and views. Definitely worth a visit!

We arrived having booked and after climbing a very steep garden path (One way system) were shown outside on a cold windy day to a draughty table that we could barely get in to let alone socially distance. The menu was very 'thin' with basically burgers - beef, lamb, chicken, veggie and very little else. No fish no basic meat dishes. Prices were higher than last time £16 for a burger and some overcooked fries I think is taking the mickey. In the end when drinks were served we asked and were reluctantly allowed to eat inside. The meals were served with 3 of us with overcooked fries! Bill - over £100 for a basic lunch with a round of drinks. This is not the William IV we knew before lockdown...Sorry you have lost our trade

I've stopped here for a drink many times over the years when doing the Box Hill hike. It's a lovely spot with a great view from the garden. This time I decided to have a Sunday roast. The waitresses were very nice, the food arrived quickly, but the meal itself was a massive disappointment. The price was £18, which is at the top end of the range for a roast in a pub, so I expected a top end roast. One side of the plate was empty except for a thin layer of orange pureed vegetable (I never worked out what the orange puree was as there was too little to taste). There were 3 vegetables: a few sliced carrots, some pickled red cabbage and 2 small pieces of cauliflower. The carrots and cabbage tasted nice. I'm not sure if the cauliflower was supposed to be cauliflower cheese, if it was there was too little sauce to taste. There were 3 small, barely roasted potatoes. On top of the vegetables were 3 wafer thin slices of beef and a medium sized Yorkshire pudding. Top top things off was a miserable little dribble of gravy. I've never had so little gravy on a Sunday roast. Overall the size of the meal was so small that it could have been made by Weightwatchers. It didn't fill me up at all. I've had a lot of Sunday roasts in country pubs this Summer, this was by far the worst as well as the most expensive.

We found the staff friendly however they really need to pay attention to the garden areas, the grass needed a good cut and there were old bits of rubbish amongst the grass where we sat. We were told not to sit on a larger table as we were only a group of 4 and so you feel a bit like you are welcome as long as you are spending money on food and will be afforded a table depending on how much they think you will spend. Kids pizza turned out to be a burger bun with tomato ketchup and piece of melted cheese on top need to improve.

We went for Sunday lunch, having driven quite far to meet friends. Really slow service, we had to ask each time for service of drinks, take the order, clear the plates.... A vegetarian friend ordered the special of whole sea bass with Mediterranean veg and chips which was actually sea bass, fried potatoes and peas with bacon!! When we asked for the Mediterranean veg we were given peas without the bacon. The £18 cheeseboard had nice cheese but the veg sticks were brown and the sliced peppers soft. I had to prove to the manager why I'd asked for the veg ro be replaced by showing him the brown celery sticks and the soft peppers- not even an apology! Shame as nice setting, but really not worth the money. Best go elsewhere!

I came here before walking up Box Hil. The weather was really nice and they sat us in the garden where we made the most of the sun while we had a couple of drinks. For food we ordered the crab and calamari, both of which were excellent. The service was wonderful from the manager and from the waitress, Abby, both of whom made us feel very comfortable eating their and were aware of social distancing. The restaurant has a one way system to enable social distancing which was appreciated. I will definitely return next time I am back to tackle Box Hill!

We had looked forward to our first meal out following the latest lockdown but, to be honest, it was disappointing, starting upon arrival when they had trouble finding our reservation. Service was a bit slow and neglectful, eg we had to ask for milk and sugar for the tea and coffee. No spoon for the coffee but we just made do with sharing one spoon as given up asking for things by then! Food was acceptable, apart from the fried eggs being undercooked. Some bother finding the gents toilets - as incorrectly signposted. The hand drier didn't work. The best thing was the lovely views.

First time at this pub have to say will be the last. Very unwelcoming, especially the older gentleman who could have been the owner. My husband and I were stuck in the middle of a crowded room so each time someone passed I kept being knocked. We ordered our drinks then our food a roast dinner which arrived with in minutes or our order being taken. The meal was presented all shoved to one side of the plate so a swirl of what looked like butternut squash purée to decorate the plate. We was in and out within 35 minutes of arriving. Not how we expected to spend a nice Sunday lunch out after months of not being able to go out. 😣very disappointing !!

Thanks for reviewing us, however we think you've got the wrong place! We don't serve food here! Come back and see us for a great pint though!

The lady behind the bar appeared drunk, had food all over her clothes. We ordered the special which was nachos, it was awful, a slab of square cheese partially melted with spicy tasteless beef. The calamari was chewy. The burger was served with some brown random fruit salad covered in mayo when it should have been peas. When we paid the bill, the drunken staff member said 'how was the food '?, We answered 'nice, thank you', She then replied'no it wasn't, it was awful'! She then took our money and turned her back on us without saying goodbye. Absolutely appalling food and customer relation. Never going back.

Although showing as fully booked we tried our luck and a table was found for us outside in the sun. Lovely friendly and attentive service (as always) but the food x 2 beef burgers were served cold and very undercooked. At £15.95 they really should be top drawer and at least cooked and served hot. The result was a bland, flavourless burger that I very nearly sent back. The waitress said she would mention it to the chef. At these prices it really should improve or change the chef before you lose your reputation and spoil a great venue.

we ordered beef burger and chicken breast burger. chicken breast was overcooked and dry, huge amount of chips, greasy coleslaw, no accompanying salad. Not a balanced meal, more of a carb overload. Food not piping hot either. Disappointed as had previously visited before lockdown on several occasions and enjoyed the food. the menu seems to have changed to 'blokes' food' which is a shame as there were more female diners than male when we were there. For £15.95 per plate it was not good value for money. it would be better if they offered smaller portions at a lower price as an option.

I was so excited to visit this pub,but was hugely disappointed. Greated by stressed staff/owner, under a dark tarpaulin, although weather was nice. Staff too busy to be seen chatting briefly and food was disappointing. Roast was sweet and overcooked, although the gravy was delish. I think we must have caught them on an off day as I'm sure this isn't how they would want to represent such a lovely pub. They had plenty of staff, but running around without any care for the clients.

We stopped here on an impromptu visit, and as we passed whilst walking the Box Hill hike. We were seated really quickly and water was brought for the dogs. We were served by a few staff who were all friendly and helpful, especially Josie who had a smile throughout and was very accommodating. It's not easy at the moment with the regulations and having everyone outside but they all managed really well even though the pub was very busy. The crab was delicious. We would come again.
