So disappointing. Booked table on line and got the impression we were lucky to get a seat! Not the case …… pretty deserted. Limited, unappealing menu was not what we had expected …….. first hurdle was actually being offered a menu!! Waitress showed us to...outside table and just left us! Had to do the arm waving and signalling thing to get attention! Food was overpriced and I feel somewhat miffed by the whole experience! Very ordinary food and absolutely nothing like the fabulous place the Olive Tree used to be.More

Thank you you so much for taking the time to post a review. As you can imagine I am bitterly disappointed by it. The transition from the enforced table service back to "potentially" the old way of doing things (ordering at the bar) has been...More

Completely out of real ale due to a busy quiz night the night before. How can a pub have no real ale a full 24 hours later ? How about some initiative and purchase a barrel from Shere, Tongham, Farnham or Horsell and promote it...as guest beer ? Not difficult. We were seated at a table for two at the far end of the pub and given a menu without any mention of the Specials menu. After over half an hour we had to go to the bar to tell them that we were ready to order. I ordered a burger and my partner ordered mussels for the the Special board. After another half hour the food arrived just in time as we were about to call it day and leave. My 14.50 burger was underwhelming in size and only mediocre in taste. My partner’s mussels were certainly special as they consisted of portion that would have been a starter in most restaurants and accompanied by two halves of cheap white sliced bread, the sort you expect with a cafe breakfast. Not even the French serve mussels with such dreadful bread. The bill was delivered with a 10 % service included which I requested to be removed. There was no question as to why I felt the need to remove the services charge as the guy knew damn well what the problem was and offered no apologies. We left feeling we had just had the piss taken out of us.More

We had as a group previously had a delicious lunch, the person who served as assured us it would be possible for us to have a booked area for a birthday tea and for a small group of us to bring our knitting and crafts....This booking had been made and was confirmed. Luckily I phoned on the day to check, and they had no idea of this booking and said they haven’t offered tea for a long time ! It was agreed that they could provide some sandwiches and buffets bits for the agreed original price. We were bringing a cake. The sandwiches were unbelievably awful, and two plates of them were inedible and had to be returned. We were all very disappointed, they offered to take off the price of our teas and coffees.Luckily we were able to laugh about our poor friend's birthday treat.More

Me and my partner came here a few months ago but this review was still in my drafts oops. The starters and mains we both loved- they were simple and delicious, however the desserts were completely underwhelming. the staff were friendly and courteous. We’d definitely...visit again just perhaps avoid dessert next time.More

Good morning and thank you for your review. I am pleased you enjoyed lunch but am disappointed and to be honest surprised you thought less of dessert. I would be grateful to know what you had, I am assuming not the cheesecake as people come...More

Having enjoyed dining at The Olive Tree on previous visits we had high expectations for our lunch time visit. The "tent" for outside dining was full of noisy, uncontrolled children and their disinterested parents. The food, which was always of a high standard was lacklustre....Chips were reformed, frozen coated potato products. Bread was supermarket sandwich loaf. Staff didn't have a clue of what was on or more importantly off the menu. That's our last visit which is sad but these days sub-standard isn't good enough.More

Booked Sunday lunch for three on 25th July. Two roast lambs and one roast beef. It was the best Sunday lunch I have ever had in a pub. It was perfectly cooked, Everything on the plate was cooked exactly how it should be, no complaints...at all. The staff were attentive and very pleasant in every respect. I just cannot fault anything at all, even the after meal brandy and Irish coffee finished off the midday lunch. The chef and staff should be very proud of themselves, well done The Olive Tree, it’s a shame we live too far away to make this a regular Sunday lunch venueMore

There was a warning in front of the pub door that they were offering a reduced menu but we thought we’d still give it a go… and we’re pleased we did! We don’t know what their normal menu is, but for a reduced one there...was still a good choice. There were about 4 or 5 starters and puddings and main courses were mainly burgers, curry, fish, scampi or steak - if they hadn’t mentioned it was reduced we’d not have realised. All the food was very good ( in particular the chips were very tasty and the cheesecake was delicious). We will be coming back!More

We took our mother to The Olive Tree to celebrate her birthday and once again (we visit the olive tree a lot), the food was lovely. Our waitress called Kate was highly attentive and friendly. Additionally, Peroni on tap and delicious mojitos made for perfect...drinks. The main reason I am writing this review however, is to express how delicious the special of the day sea-bass was. It was the best sea food dish I have ever tasted! Props to the chef and I hope that it is on the menu next time we visit l!More

A beautiful evening, and , despite tables being empty, they take up to the furthest table at back of a marquee! So we weren't happy, and they suggested another table which was fine , until music interfered with is being able to have a catch...up, moved tables again. Menu, well, scampi, haddock and chips or a burger, then 3 veg dishes, a £27 filet steak or Gohan curry, with another fish dish as special. Only a small number of tables occupied on a beautiful summer's evening around 730, My thoughts , the menu, as I wont be returning whilst it's still like that Service was good, far too many staff for number of guests and asked about 4 times if all ok.More
