Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This pub has had an interesting few years. The previous owner ran it to the ground financially, but the staff and food were always good. It was then taken over and was atrocious! The current landlord took over in October and is trying to improve...things. Our food this afternoon was good. We had a Jolly Burger and a chicken burger, and they were both lovely, although slightly overpriced to be honest. The pub wasn't busy for a Friday early evening but considering it's out of the way, that's understandable. The staff are great. Jess, the bar manager was lovely; friendly and welcoming. The wine was very expensive though - 10 quid a glass is a bit extreme for a country pub! All in all, we would go back and I would urge people to visit. A pub is only as good as its patrons, and the fact that the locals drink there regularly says it all.More

Sunday lunch after a dog walk. Slight issue on arrival as booking hadn’t noted the dogs ( i had phoned ) but this was sorted. Very nice lunch, belly pork was delicious. Unfortunately no apple sauce available! But prompt service and friendly staff

We have eaten here many times but this weekend the experience was very disappointing. The food was so poor. Our burgers were ok but were served on a plate with a handful of overcooked french fries and that was it. No salad, no garnish and...the fries were so hard they were inedible. The lentil soup came with 2 slices of cheap white bread (no butter) My grandsons fish bites and fries were ok but my partners steak & cheese baguettes was awful. The bread was so hard it crumpled into dust so it couldn’t be eaten like a sandwich. The staff are lovely but serving food which is over priced when such poor quality.More

Arrived at the pub after over an hours walk to see a sign saying Open For Drinks! I had checked website before we set off! We went inside the pub it was empty and they were still cleaning. We asked the girl on the bar...if they had any bar snacks or knew when kitchen was open and she was very vague. This pub has gone so down hill. We came a few weeks ago and they had nothing to offer then. So disappointingMore

It was the worst most inedible Sunday lunch I have ever had in a pub. We only had a main course of the roast beef.It was so overdone and tough and full of gristle. We were the first Sunday customers at 12.10am and we had...asked for pink / medium rare beef it was horrible. ...way over well done, tough & full of gristle...it was the first Sunday lunch order so should have been good & fresh!! The Sunday menu is very limited = 3 roasts (beef & Turkey & Vegetarian) ; or fish & chips or burgers or bangers & mash The wine list is a total joke...I have never seen one like it in 50 years = 5 reds & 5 whites. The descriptions are grapes only = Merlot, Malbec ., Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc. No descriptions at all ...no country or vintage given. Amazing Faulty Towers experience. What has happened to this pub ...it used to be one of my favorites...now just a bad joke.More

Not the best experience, phoned to book a table and were told there was nothing available for 7pm so we would have to do 6pm. As we left at around 7:45pm one of the staff was just finishing eating dinner at a table and the...pub was empty with no table reservations at all in the area near us, so maybe the cook goes home at 7pm on a Saturday. The “extensive” wine list was anything but, the food menu was basic and overpriced for the quality of the food, and the ambience in the area were seated was a bit stark/cold. The website and menu boast ‘homemade from locally sourced ingredients’ however the food didn’t really live up to expectations. The fried halloumi starter was breaded and utterly flavourless, I’m not even sure if the cheese was halloumi, it certainly didn’t have the distinctive ‘squeak’ when you bit into it. The fish and chips faired slightly better, a good portion of both fish and chips, although the batter on the fish was quite greasy and undercooked in places. The staff who greeted and served us were lovely and friendly. We’ve had half decent lunches here in the past and it’s a lovely situated pub on the edge of the common with a great outdoor area but I don’t think we’ll be back for an evening meal again.More

This used to be one of our favourite restaurants. However it is now under new management. The experience was very poor, the menu was very ordinary and unimaginative. The choice was (from memory) fish and chips, burgers, sausages and mash. Nothing exciting or original. The...service was casual and off--hand. No welcome on arival, we had to call for service to be shown a table. No 'good bye and thank you for coming'. We won't be going back.More

We visited for Sunday lunch as a family of 4. We sat outside in the garden which looks lovely in summer with all the flowers. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We had the fish and chips, turkey roast, scampi and chips and the...rack of ribs. All the dishes were served hot and perfectly cooked. We all enjoyed our meals and would recommend going. They also have a variety of beer, wine, ales and soft drinks on offer. Good value for money too. I look forward to returning again!More

This place is under new management. It used to be one of the better eateries in Woking. We were surprised to find the restaurant almost empty on a Friday evening, but now understand why. The person who took our booking advised that the kitchen closed...at 7:45 for main dishes (!). The menu was long but bland. Nothing exciting, just the usual pub fare - sausages and mash, fish and chips, steak and ale pie. burgers and so on. We asked for the wine list and was told there wasn't one yet, but there were two white wines. We were not welcomed on arrival, nor were we thanked as we left. On the positive side, the waitresses were cheery, efficient and attentive. The price was very high for such a basic meal. At half the price, it would have been reasonable value.More

Was a bit wary returning here after some of the latest reviews but I have to say we were as pleasantly pleased as the previous time we visited. Used as a meet up point for family to walk the dogs and then have a spot...of lunch it was perfect- still really dog friendly! Portion sizes were great and everyone enjoyed both the meal and dessert. Only slight downside was scampi portion was a little small with quite small pieces of scampi compared to the portion size of everything else on the plate but it was still good enough and really tasty. Will definitely be returning as our new go to place for dog friendly environment and good food!More

Sadly the quality of the food presented was far below what we have come to know from the Jolly Farmer. Fish cakes that looked like mass produced frozen products Chicken Kiev, over cooked, dry, and little or no garlic butter Sausage and mash, but sadly...difficult to differentiate the mash from Smash...for those who remember it. The 3 desserts, all priced at £8, not worth the money. Redeeming factors, good beer, and staff full of energy and good service. Sad to see so few customers, this has been and should be a go-to pace on the outskirts of Guildford......please get back on track.More

We hadn't been here for about a year so thought a return trip was worth doing with a friend from overseas. The pub was busy but not packed. It was a sunny day so more people seemed to be outside than in but because we'd...booked we decide to sit inside. The service wasn't especially quick but we were happy chatting. Our server told us about a few things that weren't on the menu but there was a decent enough selection for it not to be a problem. The adults ordered the pork and beef roasts and the kids went for the pizza and burgers. Kids meals didn't look especially great, skinny fries looked a little limp and unappetising but the kids were hungry so they disappeared in no time. Roasts for the adults were very good portions with ok roast potatoes, fresh broccoli, creamed cauliflower, roast parsnips and carrots. The beef was well cooked as was the pork, though it would have been nice to have some crackling with the roast pork. Desserts were ok, but nothing to get too excited about. I had the sticky toffee pudding, which for £8 was overpriced for what you get. Was slightly niggled with the 12.5% service charge automatically added considering we were only a party of 5. With the service being quite slow and at times having to get up and go to the bar with a request I was tempted to knock it down to 9% but it wasn't worth the hassle.More
