It's obviously a long time since this pub won the awards that they like to claim. Two of us dropped in today at lunchtime for a quick bite. My sister had the tortellini and I had the 'lightly dusted calamari' and a bowl of chips....The calamari was paper thin and the 'light dusting' was a coating of heavy batter, fried in greasy oil which must've been about a year old. Horrible. I hardly touched it. The seafood was accompanied by a 'salad' of wilted rocket leaves. It looked as if they'd been sitting on a plate in the kitchen for some days. Even the accomanying dipping sauce had a coating on it, suggesting it had been sitting out, uncovered, for some time. The chips were cooked in the same stale oil as the battered calamari and were just passable. The wine was OK. I'd never go to this pub again.More

This was my first visit to this stunning pub restaurant. It s a good size, accommodating dogs and children as well. It was extremely busy so food orders were suspended for 10 minutes, turning out to be over half an hour in the end. I...asked a staff member what the roasts were, and her answer was totally unacceptable saying that she ‘wasn’t even due to be working but was helping out’. Thanks for that, great help! Thankfully an amazing lady called Sara was on hand to help. She was so friendly, and managed to get a roast lunch ordered for me, despite them having run out. During the meal she checked all was ok with me, stopped to chat as well when it had quietened down. The meal was plentiful, well cooked beef, lots of veg and lashings of gravy! As a note to those not into Sunday roasts, the rest of the menu looked really tempting. Lots of choice. Thanks guys. Hopefully a 5* rating when I next visit.More

I came in to the Britannia with my 14 month old son for Sunday lunch. My wife was away, so it was just me and the little man. The staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating. Food went down really well too. The team kept regularly...checking on us, mainly to speak to my son, but to see we were well fed and watered. Would highly recommend.More

This was my first visit to The Britannia for donkey's years, and it was just like putting on a coat you haven't worn for ages, and it was a most pleasant and warming experience!! It is a completely normal pub, with people being normal, people...with (well-behaved) dogs - and terrific food - and plenty of it. I had cod with sautéed potatoes, and the others had baked salmon. The apple tart was thought to be a tad disappointing, but I thought it was OK!! The worst thing was the "local tax" in the shape of car parking - £1.60 an hour. We were going to the theatre afterwards, so the evening cost £6.40 for 4 hours!!!! Still, for this we could have gone back to the pub until 08.00 the next day!!!More

I had a lager top which was flat and soda-watery and a cheese ploughman's sandwich which was just a cheese and Branston pickle sandwich made with grated cheese and cheap sliced bread. Never again ...

Was extremely annoyed when we were asked to calm our dog down in a restaurant that we s meant to be dog friendly. We understand that it might annoy other guest and was aware that our dog was a bit excited and we were calming...hum down, but to come and tell us obvious was quite annoying and not welcoming. We had to leave and won’t be coming back to this place.More

Visited here a couple of times now since moving to Guildford. It is a fantastic place with lovely food and drink and friendly staff. My family have rated it their favourite place to go for a roast! Other meals here have also been great. My...favourite thing is definitely their love for dogs! My nervous dog got spoilt rotten and loved it. He got a jar of biscuits, bowl of water, many cuddles and a choice of dog bed! Highly recommend.More

Big shout out to all the staff at The Brittania for a wonderful Christmas Dinner with friends yesterday evening. It was great on so many fronts: All felt very safe Covid wise, good levels of cleaning, staff all wearing masks, tables reasonably socially distanced. The...food was great, it was served nice and hot and all the courses were tasty and well presented (I think between us all we sampled every dish on the Christmas menu and no one had any complaints). The staff were pleasant and attentive, all the food arrived at once (which given we were a party of 11 and there was also a party of 30 at the other end of the pub eating at roughly the same time was mo mean feat!). The Christmas menu was excellent value for money. All in all a great evening and would definitely recommend this pub for a Christmas get together or general dining/drinking.More

Utterly disappointed by my dinner at the Britannia last night. Ordered a burger and specifically asked for no bacon in it. In the end, they probably cooked it with bacon and removed it last minute as it’s all I could taste (I really can’t have...bacon, it’s not just a taste thing). The waiter came to clear my two friends plates when they were done, looked at mine which obviously was barely touched but over with, and left it. He cleared everything else and two tables around but never my plate. Half an hour later I decide to bring the plate back to the bar and got the most disappointing service I ever witnessed. The two waiters were super rude, said ‘ah sorry yeah leave the plate here’ and walked away. I stood there a good 30seconds before one of them looked at me to say there’s nothing they can do about it, they won’t refund me or offer anything else, even though it was clearly their fault. So lost money and had no dinner (note to the staff: do realise some people save up for a dinner out with their friends.) Terrible service. Shame as it’s a great place for drinks but don’t expect anything from their staff.More
