Visited for a meal earlier this week and happy to rate this as a 5/5! The menu had plenty to choose from, including the old favourites and some of the chef’s creations. The set menus were great and we opted for one of these, not fancying prawns in one of the curries though we asked if it could be swapped and the waiter said we could simply pick whatever else we wanted to replace it. The set menu was good value for the amount of food (we couldn’t finish it, I tried to!) and a great way to try various bits and pieces from the menu. Service was fantastic throughout. We didn’t book but were seated quickly and the staff were attentive from start to finish. Covid guidelines followed throughout but without feeling overly oppressive or intense. Fantastic restaurant and we’ll definitely visit again if ever in the area.

We opted for the early bird menu at 12.95 for three courses. The onion bhaji came as four freshly cooked delicious bhajis but I could have managed with two! Chicken tikka masala was lovely with plenty of chicken. Vanilla ice cream was good quality but I could have done without the angelica! Kingfisher lager was lovely. Excellent service and Covid proofing was excellent.

Following trips to Whitley Bay / Tynemouth, myself and friend fancied an Indian. We came across Rani and was not disappointed. As Bradfordians we take curry’s seriously, the standard here was high and the prices were more than reasonable. The staff were smiling, helpful and lovely. We were here before the main tranche of customers, the atmosphere was relaxed and perfect after a lot of miles walking. Seasoning, marination, tenderness of the meat were all tremendous. The house red was delicious too. Bobby was our server, he was a great chap and made us feel part of the family. We were gifted a free trial of a desert which may feature on the menu shortly, it super tasty, particularly after a spicy meal, ‘jeliabi’ it was called, scrumptious. We will definitely be coming back here, thank you kindly! Colum and Jack

My partner and I was visiting Newcastle for the weekend. We stayed at the Jury's Inn, Quayside. Being that side of the town, we decided to have a walk round to see what restaurants were close by. We didn't have to go far when we came across Rani's. Both fancying Indian we decided to try it. We were not disappointed, the staff was very friendly, asking us to sanitise before being seated. They all wore masks and gloves during service, this made us feel safe. Not being big eaters, we started with the poppadoms and pickle tray, followed by a rice each and a curry between us. We both decided on the Lamb Green Chilli (Hot). It was to die for, absolutely gorgeous and very tasty. We often visit Newcastle and we will definitely be visiting Rani's again.

Was out with my family for first time after lockdown, we were going around town, what attracted us to the restaurant was the early bird deal; displayed on their windows, we had the 5 course for 12.95 deal which included a starter, main, rice, nan, dessert. Our meal was unbelievable and the portion sizes were very good. The service was top tier, also loved the complimentary digestif at the end. 😮 Will definitely be visiting again. 😊

Visited Rani Indian restaurant last night(26/10/2020) with my husband and two teenage daughters and what a lovely visit it was. Food was superb and staff were so polite. Spoke with the front of house waiter who informed us his father was the chef and his mother the support who does all sides, naan etc. He and his brother run the front of house. Amazing family business trying to pull together in these difficult times. Track and trace and all Covid rules in place. Perfect location almost right on Newcastle’s iconic Quayside. Definitely worth a visit and we will make sure we visit next time we stay in Newcastle. Early evening menu available which suited us all but a very extensive full menu cooked to your liking. Well done Rani family. 👏👏👏

Wow wow wow! Best curry I've had in years. My son and I had passed the restaurant in the morning as it was close to our hotel and decided to eat here after the match. Such a warm welcome from the staff, had the choice of eating off the pre theatre menu or standard menu. We ordered pre theatre and we're not disappointed one bit. Option of 2 or 3 course for very reasonable price. We couldn't even attempt pudding after our main course as it was such a generous portion. Such a flavour filled curry, with rice or nann for the price. Will definitely be eating here again in future visits to Newcastle. A truly fabulous place!

Great Indian Food- You Get What You Pay For A tastefully decorated restaurant and well set out. Not a massive restaurant so the atmosphere is good and a positive vibe. The menu isn’t the most comprehensive but there is a more than ample choice. The food is certainly amongst the best Indian food I have had in a restaurant if not the best. The presentation of the food is top class too particularly the starters. I heard a couple of comments from other tables stating that their dishes were the best they had had too in an Indian restaurant. The cost was at the higher end- £92 for 2 people for the poppadom’s, starters, a main and three drinks each. The one bugbear would be that this included a 10% service charge that wasn’t optional. Don’t get me wrong the service was decent (apart from rushing us a little at the end when it was clear one of us still hadn’t finished) and I would have given a decent tip. But I object to not being given the option. I hope they reconsider this. A guaranteed quality experience for those willing to pay for it. But probably not an option for those on a budget.

Dined here yesterday after having read their extensive menu, quite differed to what i a usually get from an Indians, nonetheless i gave it a try and glad to say that i was mind blown by the food. There was a lot to choose so i asked the waiter for recommendations as i didn't know what to pick, i had the Chicken Dhabba Curry with a side of Cauliflower Bhaji (which was not on the menu, but the chef prepared it for me specially). I had never had this good Indian food in my life, i would highly recommend you give it try when you out in town. I will definitely be back next time.

Having booked a table for my sons 30th, and been there on so many occasions this was the worst meal we have ever had. I told my son, who is a chef, how amazing it was there how wrong I was this time. On arrival our table in the front entrance wasn’t even ready! The starters were frozen foods (chicken and fish dippers from a wholesaler with a bit of salad!) main courses we had four different ones all tasted the same with 3/4 pieces of meat in them. Two naam breads, crispy like a pizza that you had to SNAP not pull off with a layer of grease on top, disgusting. We all held our tongues when the two lovely waiters, (they were the only good thing about the meal) ask if everything was ok! The whole meal was terrible and we were so disappointed

Hi Keith We are sorry your experience didn’t go as expected. You stated that our “frozen foods (chicken and fish dipper)” all our Chicken Pakoras and Fish Pakoras are homemade and freshly prepared. It is not nice to falsely accuse us that our foods are from “wholesalers”. About the main-courses you had a Kashmiri Roganjosh, Lamb Belly Ram, Butter Chicken Old Delhi style and Jheenga Nariyal Curry. All of them are totally different curries and they are all prepared with different “homemade” bases. Our Naan’s are soft and topped with Desi Ghee not many restaurants use that as it comes at a expense. Our Chef is the best Chef in Newcastle with over (30) years of experience in Indian Kitchen. We even served you a small cake to celebrate you son’s birthday!!! Everything you have accused us of in doesn’t match the quality we serve at Rani, we believe this is a false review to damage our reputation. We do hope you try us again in the future. Regards General Manager at Rani.

My wife and I are both keen fans of onion bhajis and makhni dahl, and have sampled many. Those served at the Rani were the best we have ever tasted - and the rest of the meal was also excellent, served by two friendly, helpful and courteous waiters. We will return.

A wide selection of all types of dishes available. Spice hotness ratings were accurate, to our taste anyway, and our meals were very tasty and ample in quantity. If we lived there, it would no doubt become a regular haunt. Wine was delicious but pricey compared to what you could buy the bottles for at a supermarket.

Genuinely the best Indian we’ve ever been to and some of the best food we’ve ever had. The whole experience was just exceptional, the atmosphere upon arrival was quiet, delicate and with music just loud enough to add to the atmosphere without being invasive. Staff were attentive and friendly with some good banter and friendly conversation. The food was frankly awesome. Often one dish will stand out for us at a restaurant but when we asked each other what our favourite dishes were we just couldn’t decide because they all stood out and had their own unique characters and flavours. The house chutney which we got with our popadoms was perhaps the only thing that truly stood out, I have never had anything like it and I suspect that I won’t again unless we come back to Newcastle and eat at Rani. Samosa Chaat, beautiful combination of warm samosa and cool yogurt with actually fresh salad that looked like it had just been cut up. Gorgeous. Tandoori paneer, squidgy, tender charred perfectly. The mains, beautiful peshwari naan, not too stodgy and beautifully cooked. Bhuna wholesome and so much flavour. Butter chicken not too sweet with so much depth of flavour. Gulab Jamun for pudding taking me back to my childhood, sticky, naughty, amazing. Very reasonable, £75 including tip and a few beers for popadoms, starters, mains and pudding for two.

It’s probably 3 years since we last visited Rani’s which used to be a favourite place to eat when we lived near Quayside. We were not disappointed. We arrived quite late for an after theatre dinner but our welcome could not have been warmer or more friendly. Not surprisingly the menu had changed in 3 years, we thought for the better. We were very happy with everything we ordered, each dish tasting very different but all were delicious, had been carefully prepared and nicely presented. Special mention to Bobby and Ronnie who were excellent in their running of front of house, charming and professional, they made our dining experience one to remember. The waitress also deserves a mention although I didn’t get her name. She was hard working and her meticulously cleaning after every diner did not go unnoticed.. So many thanks to you all, especially the chef and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
