It was a classic case of a spontaneous decision that turned out to be an excellent decision. We phoned on spec whilst out for a walk, spoke to Andrew and he booked us a table. The atmosphere was great as we walked in and every one of the team, we spoke with were friendly, welcoming and attentive.
I think the best way to describe the food is authentically Italian; the ingredients are fantastic, and presentation was lovely.
I would not describe this as a cheap night out, but it is definitely a place that we will return to when we want a 'special' meal.
We started with Burrata Pomegranate Salad - at £9.50 for a starter this needed to be special, and it was. I can honestly say we have not had such fresh and authentic mozzarella anywhere else in the UK - creamy and soft. It was presented whole (and it was a generous size) with a bed of salad dressed with pomegranate seeds and a sweet dressing. A great start (we added some great sour dough bread with EVOO and balsamic. Mains were shared with Pappadella Beef Shin Ragu which was rich, meaty and using local high-quality meat. We added a Pear and Guanciale pizza which was very interesting as it had sliced pear and a mild blue cheese. This was lovely on a fantastic crust.
No room for dessert I'm afraid but the Moretti and the house red also hit the mark.
All in all this was special and with two drinks a piece £56 (including service charge) was a good price.
Many thanks to the whole team but special mention to Andrew and Anna.

A lovely welcome greeted us this evening on arrival. Everyone was covid complaint with a sanitizer station in the lobby at entry. Well spaced tables adhering to social distancing made for a comfortable dining experience.
Service was swift and attentive.
The food menu is a delight with ethically sourced ingredients from the best independently owned businesses in the surrounding areas.
The mains of linguine and lasagne tasted divine, Emsure you attend hungry if ordering the lasagne as it is a traditional meat feast and not like any other that has preceded it. The linguine was a light delight with a lemon theme and kick of heat. T he skin on chips were a taste sensation as was the wood fired mini garlic bread.
Modern surroundings and lighting with a well planned dining area is a fresh look and feel to this lovely resturant.
We shall most certainly be back for the Apple cinnamon dough (stop selling it to the children) you know who you are 😄

First time visiting Punto Italian Kitchen. A party of 6 of us friends and family for a birthday meal. The restaurant was light and modern with a nice atmosphere. Service was excellent and staff very helpful and friendly. Food was very tasty. Two of us had a Sunday roast which was huge with plenty of meat and a good variety of veg. The pasta dishes were a bit smaller but filling enough and also lovely. Prices were very reasonable for good food and there was a discretionary service charge on the bill. Would definitely return here again and recommend it to others.

Would like to start off by saying I’ve read the 1* review below and I’m shocked anyone would leave such a bad review based off the fact the price of a Sunday dinner has increased by £3.00 in the past 5 years..
Also I completely disagree with the mention of the ‘canteen’, I had my first visit today and thought Punto was really stylish.
Anyway, the food was all great, 4 of us dined and loved it. All had different dishes and all were lovely. The staff were brilliant, the manager (sorry I didn’t get your name) was very accommodating and attentive when we came in without a reservation.
I’m thrilled we have a new local Italian on our doorstep, I can’t wait to come back again and will certainly be telling everyone to pay you a visit!

The food was enjoyable but two out four people in the party received their main 15 minutes before the other two and being polite would not eat until everyone had their food. Then during dessert the staff were spraying bleach which was all we could smell and taste. When it came to pay the bill we had all ordered from the Christmas menu two courses for £20 and a glass of Prosecco was £4 or a spiced pear Bellini was £4. We were not charged the £20 but charged the individual prices plus we were told Prosecco was not in the offer despite us pointing it out on their website and we’re charged £6 a glass. We were also charged £7 for the Bellini which they told us wasn’t a spiced pear Bellini, again we pointed out that it was what had been ordered. We were told that there was no mistake and £1 was removed from the total bill with nothing being corrected despite the waitress going back to the manager twice at length. The whole time from starting our desserts to paying the bill the staff stood at the bar next to us with their coats on waiting for us to finish. What a disappointment 😔

Punto Italian Kitchen
Grazie for taking the time to leave a review.
It's always very disappointing as the owner of a small independent business to see a review of this nature, especially when the team have worked so hard to ensure that customer have the best experience possible.
I did try as best as possible on the night to resolve but it unfortunately I wasn't able to give the discount you thought was due. Again, being a small independent business we have to work to very tight margins.
As you have pointed out, we do sanitise tables between customers, as all restaurants and do not use bleach, but a food safe sanitiser which is approved by the International Standards Organisation and to British Standards. It has a very mild scent but does not contain chlorine as bleach does.
The Kitchen team had finished their shift and were enjoying a drink after a fairly long shift at the bar which they do frequently. Apologies if this made you feel that they were waiting for you to leave, it certainly isn't the intention.
The Spiced Pear Bellini is included in the Christmas offer, however, as we discussed, the standard Bellini, which you ordered, is not. Therefore you were charged the normal price.
I'm glad we were still able to give you a new Amici di Punto card for January which is valid throughout the January 2023 (not in conjunction with other offers, as always) which will give you 15% off your meal on a table of up to 4 people. So hopefully we will see you again in the New Year.
Should you have any queries regarding offers or availability please feel free to ask the team at the start of your meal and they will be more than happy to advise.
Grazie ancora.

We visited Punto for the first time on Friday evening and were very impressed by both the service and quality of food. The food is excellent quality - very fresh and flavoursome. The menu is much more authentic than standard Italian restaurants, but the price you pay is comparable. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive but weren't overbearing. We were all very impressed by the whole experience and plan to go back very soon! Punto is an excellent find - it is a cut above other Italian restaurants and, in my view, represents great value for money. I would strongly recommend Punto to anybody looking to enjoy a well-priced, delicious Italian meal in a relaxed environment!

Following a very complimentary feature in a recent Saturday edition of the Newcastle Journal I booked a mid-week lunch for myself and 2 friends. First impressions count and entering the restaurant you're immediately struck by the light, airy spacious nature of its design and layout. The menu provides for an interesting range of appetisers or "light "meals under its Small Plate heading, leading to a varied choice of home-made pasta and pizzas. Meals were presented attractively with thankfully no "fussy" garnish and matched the written menu descriptions which these days in many restaurants isn't always the case. Food was delightful and we all returned clean plates to the kitchen. I would certainly visit again and it reminded me of some of the lovely restaurants we visited when last in Rome.

I was looking for a restaurant to host a large group meal (approx 20) to celebrate our group of young people about to leave for university. Having previously used a famous pizza chain I was keen to use a local restaurant instead, having heard good things I popped in person to the restaurant one lunch to see if we could be accommodated. I was immediately struck by the friendly welcome from Em and how appetising the food looked especially from the pizza oven in the corner.
The contact via email in the run up to our event was warm and professional and we all felt really welcome on the evening. Our group selected from the set menu which at £15 a head offered really good value. My pizza with spicy salami was delicious, some of the best pizza I've had in Newcastle and packed a proper spicy punch! Of the other dishes I'd definitely try the pappardelle when I get a chance to head back, each person in our group was happy with their choice. Likewise the desserts were popular, the lemon tart being a particular hit.
Throughout the evening the service was warm and friendly and the bill organised without fuss - there was no issue with having to remind the staff re deposits already paid which was good to see.
All in this was a great experience on a special night for my group, I'm certainly keen to return myself on a smaller scale to try a few different dishes including some of the great lunch choices I saw on my first drop in. Thanks to Em and all the team for their help!

I am a regular here and it's hands down the best Italians in Newcastle.
If you want a million dishes on the menu followed by frozen rubbish then this isn't the place for you.
Small menu , fresh pasta and fresh wood fired pizzas are all tip notch.
The thing for me that sets this place apart is also the service which is really really good.
Shout out to Andrew the manager who is really good at his job and is really on the money every time.

Came here to eat after reading the great reviews. I was heavily disappointed.
I ordered the ravioli and my partner ordered the signature pappardelle Al ragu di Manzo. First of all, the dishes came out within 10mins of ordering which signals a lot of reheating rather than freshness.
Bear in mind the ravioli was £14.50. I received 5 ravioli parcels surrounding sauce in the middle. It would have filled a 2 year old. Ravioli was rather on the hard side of al dente and overall the dish was cold. The sauce was not well blended, lacked taste and the lack of filling in the ravioli made a bigger void in my tummy.
My partner's food looked not much more appetising. It lacked flavour and there was a puddle of pasta water seeping from the bottom of the dish.
In addition, no one asked was everything okay during the meal.
Overall, the restaurant is lovely, and perhaps it was a busy night, but a restaurant should always deliver.

Ciao Ash,
Always a shame to see that someone hasn't enjoyed their experience.
You'll see from our reviews that apart from providing tasty food we also want to provide the right experience, so clearly something went wrong here.
The team are trained to check back with each course, so I will mention this to the managers and make sure it is not missed.
With that said, I was on shift pretty much every evening last week and wasn't made aware of any issues that you mentioned. We would always ask that any issues are brought to our attention as we will do everything possible to replace, or correct an issue. Even if it's just a case of not liking something. We will quite happily get something else.
The ravioli are made by hand, individually, which is one of the reasons they are one of the more expensive dishes on the menu, and we have found that 5 pieces is enough for most appetites. Especially when many customers also order a starter and a side dish.
I'd like to see if we can make sure you get the best experience, so if you can contact me on 0191 2587999
we'll see if we can invite you back in for a meal and get things right second time around.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Cordiali saluti,
Zeno - Owner/Operations Director

First visit to Punto I.K after following for a while on Insta. Decided to just do a walk in this evening and was warmly greeted. Sat at a lovely table immediately and informed of slight changes to menu. Given time to consider options and then drinks delivered promptly. A very nice G&T served and a non-alcoholic beer for the driver (hubby)... great start. starters served piping hot and delicious pastry base of garlic bread, delicious. Main meal, two pizzas, took a little while to arrive but apologies were delivered by 'Nicole' our server and to be honest it was nice to have a break between courses. When they arrived, both were 'wow' and piping hot again. We had the 'Speziata' and 'Toscana' which were delicious and again the base was the best I have ever had. They were quite pricey - £13.50/£14.50 - but wanted to try this restaurant, it would have been nice to have a little more Toscanella Sausage (which is the most expensive of the two) as opposed to about 8 small pieces, my hubby's Speziata was covered in Soppressata, which I was a little envious of. However, we did enjoy the food and would recommend. The server Nicole was great and very friendly and smiley, thank you.

Ciao,
Grazie for leaving such a positive review, we pride ourselves on delivering a truly authentic Italian experience so I am thrilled to hear that you loved our food. We put a great amount of effort into our pizza dough, which includes proving it for 72 hours so I am glad you appreciated the base. I do apologise that you were slightly disappointed with the amount of Toscanella on your pizza, due to our mission to use the highest quality ingredients, the Tosconella we buy is quite expensive so the current portion sizes reflect this, in order to keep our pizza prices competitive. I will pass on your kind words to Nicole and we very much look forward to seeing you again soon.

During a really busy day at work I ordered a Fiorentina pizza for delivery through Deliveroo. Within half an hour a beautifully cooked pizza arrived complete with spinach and two dippy eggs on top. The dough was exceptional and the whole pizza was cooked to perfection and oozed taste from start to finish. Absolutely exceptional this place deserves an award or two.

Called in for lunch on the off chance they had a table free, there were.a few people in the the restaurant,?we were greeted warmly & shown to a spare table.. We had the beef shin ragú with gorgeous homemade fresh pappardelle, mini roast garlic pizza bread Both were absolutely delicious & then shared a dessert, we had a warm light polenta cake soaked in orange syrup with orange segments, mascarpone ice cream, toasted almonds, it was totally scrumptious. Really hope Punto does well. Food and service spot on. Can’t wait to go back & try more of the menu x

We went to Punto as a walk in this evening and had a wonderful experience. We arrived about 5.30 and while the restaurant was empty we could see from their bookings sheet they were expecting lots of people to arrive. However the manager went out of his way to accommodate us - as a family group with four adults and a baby in a high chair this took some juggling as we couldn’t be squeezed in just anywhere. This lovely welcoming attitude continued the whole evening with really attentive service. When they brought our 18 month old’s pizza it was very hot and the manager apologised for the fact it would inevitably be hard for us to have it there while she couldn’t eat it - a couple of minutes later he returned with some breadsticks for her to eat while she waited for it to cool.
All our food was lovely, both pizzas and pasta, but it was the warm friendly atmosphere that really made our night. Thanks Punto staff for such a great experience!

Thank you so much for the lovely review. We are delighted we were able to squeeze you in. In general we always try to make sure we have a few spaces for passing customers although it's always tricky with the need of high chairs.

We visited Punto on Mothers Day and the team and food were amazing from the minute we walked through the door. My husband, who shall remain nameless, had booked the table for 4pm, so he tells me...but he'd actually booked it for 3pm 🤦♀️ what could have ended in disaster, even more so after the 40 minute walk with two children in tow was brushed off by the team and I was immediately offered a complimentary glass of fizz to celebrate Mothers Day, this was much needed! I later overheard that in fact all woman were offered a free fizz, no children required, which was a really thoughtful gesture. Food was amazing, my youngest very proud of ordering the fish plate and meat plate to share then promptly the kids demolishing most before we even got a look in! Mains were 3 pizzas and for me the amazing crab and prawn linguine, out of this world! Shout out to the pizza chef who last time saved the day by swapping the super spicy salami for a much more child friendly version, this time my eldest was prepared and knew exactly what to ask for. Punto hits the spot, the right combination amazing food and laid back atmosphere. We tell everyone we meet to come visit and we will definitely be back...just next time on time, promise!
