I was very lucky to be taken to Blackfriar's Banqueting Hall, tonight, for a wine dinner. The whole evening was superb, the ambience, the staff, the wine, the food. Thank you.

Came here for my birthday, had an absolutely lovely evening - the staff are attentive and the service very good. I was given a glass of champagne on the house as they knew it was my birthday! (A lovely touch) the food was absolutely delicious and well priced for the quality that you receive. 5*!! Just great.

Been meaning to visit for quite a while and wish we hadn't! Goats cheese with pickled walnuts resulted in playing find the goats cheese resulting in a vinegary salad. Hake was replaced by coley with the excuse their supplier had let them down! Don't replace decent fish with the cheapest of all. All in all, it may have an historic... More

Booked a birthday lunch with my wife. The restaurant is really pleasant and well run, the service very attentive too. The choice and quality of the starters was extremely good, and we then both had the hanger steak. We couldn't fault our main course at all, the steak very tasty and cooked exactly as we requested. Our desserts were no... More

We had vouchers for a meal which were a Christmas present. We had the fishcakesf for starters which were very tasty. We were given a complimentary amuse bouche (not sure if that is the correct spelling). This was artichoke puree with a parsnip crisp - lovely. For mains my husband had the Beef Wellington which he said was gorgeous and... More

Been here a few times and had lunch, dinner and Sunday lunch. The food is consistently good. Well seasoned, well cooked and served with the right amount of fuss. The building is nice too which adds atmosphere. Most recently had our work Christmas dinner here and that was lovely. We are a fair amount of noise and had enjoyed a... More

Description
Blackfriars Restaurant in Newcastle is Britains oldest purpose-built restaurant, dating back to 1239 when it was used as a refectory by hungry monks. Luckily the food is a bit more modern, and the award-winning menu and historical surrounds have made this one of Newcastles most popular restaurants. Whether youre dining in the candlelit medieval banquet hall, the intimate dining room or the garden terrace, be sure to arrive early for a delicious cocktail at the bar. The menu never fails to impress, and favourite dishes include the wild rabbit stew with prunes, roasted almonds and Jerusalem pure and grilled scallops with roast pumpkin, French beans and beetroot coulis. Blackfriars Restaurant has an acclaimed wine list.
