Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

We’ve eaten here previously so when we read the Restaurant Week menu and saw that you got 2 courses for £10 we booked straight away. Food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. I had the meatballs starter and hubby had Greek sausage and giant beans then we both had the lamb kleftico - which was a lamb shank and the meat just fell off the bone, came with Greek potatoes and salad - simply divine!
Friendly and efficient service - a place to return to time and again.

We visited as a group of 4 with 2 people who had never been before, we had not booked and at first I was a little worried as the girl was unsure if she could fit us in and there was some confusion as we were left waiting but this was soon remedied and we were given a table (the restaurant remained quiet while we were there). The food was excellent and I felt great value for money, I usually have the meze so was disappointed when no one else would join me but this was made up for by my saganaki starter and gyros main. My only criticism was they were nearly out of Greek beer with no mythos for example but I was quickly offered alpha instead.

My boyfriend and I visited here during the happy hour and ordered the starters and mains to come at the same time. We ended up sharing all of the dishes and they were all absolutely beautiful and so filling, it was great value for money. The staff are also very welcoming, professional and friendly. Couldn’t fault a single thing about our visit!!

We ordered home delivery from here and the food arrived freezing cold which was unsurprising as they didn’t seem to have any heated bags to transport it in. We had to heat the chips up which was difficult when everything is in one container with salad, tsatsiki etc. I ordered chicken souvlaki and the chicken was so over cooked and hard it was difficult to chew. The pitta was also hard by the time it arrived so we couldn’t eat that. The pork gyros was ok, as were dolmades once heated up. It’s a shame as we were really looking forward to it. Maybe we were the last delivery as our food arrived right at the end of the hour slot we were given.

First off let's get one thing straight.. we are not a food delivery establishment!! This review site is really for our dine in restaurant only.
We are currently providing a temporary delivery service (Greek Kitchen @ Home) as a gesture for our regular customers that don't feel comfortable enough to dine out at the moment. We have therefore only promoted this service on our own social networking platforms, as it's really only for our loyal and fantastic customers that have been missing their Kafeneon fix.
Judging by the fact that you have gone and set up a new TripAdvisor account for the sole purpose of bad mouthing this brand new service leads me to believe you are not one of our beloved regular customers!
We have worked very hard to earn the great reputation of our restaurant and for you to give us a poor review based on an extra customer service that we are only providing on a temporary basis to help people out during these trying times is a very low blow indeed.
If it makes you feel any better we definitely aren't making any profit from our deliveries! They are however giving the team a little more to do every evening, therefore allowing us to keep all of our amazing staff on their fulltime hours until things get back to normal at the restaurant.
Also... just for the record we do indeed use thermal delivery bags so not sure where you came up with the idea that we don't!? Please understand however that even with the thermal bags and packaging, the food will of course be slightly colder than you would receive in the restaurant as we are travelling up to 7 miles (often in traffic) to get to you but "FREEZING COLD :-(" is impossible! I mean we don't strap it to the car roof for crying out loud.
**For anyone else that has received a delivery from us that isn't as hot as it should be or that may have been compromised in transit, please get in touch and discuss the issue with us directly. We are still finding our feet with this brand new service so rather than reading about it online we would much rather receive any feedback in person, we would be more than happy to rectify any issues straight away, and you never know you may even get a few little freebies thrown in as an apology for any inconvenience caused!
Thank you to our amazing customers and staff for your continued love and support. We are all working our way through a very tough time at the moment. Unfortunately reviews like this make it that little bit tougher for us 😓
Much love,
Daniel

Visited on a Monday lunchtime and it was quite busy. Got a table straight away. The waitresses were lovely and very helpful. Lots of Greek food to choose from and a lunchtime special menu that looked good value at under £10. We weren't too hungry so both opted for a Greek Salad, mine with the addition of chicken. Food arrived quite quickly and the salad was large and tasty. More than big enough for a lunch. Looked to be plenty cocktails advertised and possibly a place that I would return to on an evening for a more substantial meal.

We visited here during a recent weekday early evening and found the place had enough people inside to make an atmosphere where many other restaurants in nearby streets were empty. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food came with plenty of salads accompaniments. I chose off the 'deal' menu and my wife selected from the 'la carte'. Good choice of well-cooked Greek favourites. We enjoyed ourselves.

Food was delicious, and reasonably priced.
Disappointed with service, were sent to pick our own table where someone would bring menus over to us. Took so long to bring menus over, other customers who arrived after us received theirs well before, and for the rest of the night we struggled to get any staff members attention.

The wife and I booked a table here and we were amazed. We missed the deal that ends at 7pm (starts at 5pm) where you can get a starter and main for £10.95. When we got in the restaurant in was busy and buzzing with chatter from people taking advantage of this deal. We were taken downstairs which is very much like a Mediterranean cave house and feels pretty authentic. The staff were amazing and very attentive. We ordered a bottle of house white which was nice and starters of vine leaves for my wife and meatballs for me... Both were lovely. Then for mains we had a chicken sizzling plate and beef stifado... Both were absolutely gorgeous!! And dare I say better than you actually get while in Greece!
I highly recommend a visit as the food, service and place is well worth it and we will definitely be returning soon.

We eat here a few times a year and always enjoy it. Last night we treated ourselves to a Monday evening night away and stayed at a nearby hotel. As always we had a lovely meal, both had the deep fried feta and then the chicken feta sizzler which we hadn’t tried before and was amazing, huge portions so I felt a bit guilty about how much I couldn’t eat. The staff are always friendly and helpful and it was lovely to see the restaurant busy with a warm and cheerful atmosphere even on a miserable November Monday evening. I mention the hotel because we had borrowed a brolly from them which we forgot and left in Kafeneon. The hotel wanted to charge us £20 but after a call to the restaurant the manager delivered it back to the hotel for us. That’s outstanding customer service.

We booked a table and were given the choice of indoors or outdoors, chose the outdoors as the sun was shining.
We had the 2 course for £10.95 menu which is amazing value. Halloumi for starter was lovely, cooked to perfection and the chicken souvlaki for main was excellent, as were the chips and tzatziki. Portion sizes were very generous for the price and the wine was reasonably priced too. Service was great, very attentive and all looked very clean and hygienic. Amazing experience, we will definitely be back the next time we come to Newcastle!

We called in for lunch as we had heard it was good Greek food. We were promptly seated and wine came so we browsed the menu. Eventually we chose the mezze so we could try a few different dishes. When it arrived it all looked a bit if a mess. Stifado was ok bit more seasoned would have nicer. Salad and dips all mixed up looked like it was thrown on the plate. The moussaka was the worst. Supposed to be layered mince aubergine and potatoes 1 slice of each and a bowl of mince .not the best. Service was a bit slow as all the girls preferred to chat at the bar so we waited 15 minutes to get the bill. Very average for the price . Better out there

Has been quite a while since I visited kafeneon, one of my favourite restaurants in the past, hadn't visited due to work load and other obligations. Non of the staff looked familiar but still the same warm welcome and smile. I was informed that the chef's in the kitchen where still the same as the team has been there for years and I must confess delivering the same delicious quality Greek dishes that I loved. We had a really good time and enjoyed our meal and the service. The lady serving us informed me that the owner (Daniel)is still the same just wasn't in at the moment, the place was really busy and they told me that they shall be expanding the restaurant size as they are buying the whole building as they need more space to accommodate the customers over the weekend. So happy that they are doing so well. Won't be long till I return, thank you Kafeneon for a lovely evening.

We absolutely love Greek food, so we were pleased to see that Kafeneon was only a short walk from Roomzzz, where we were staying. We were also pleased to see that the restaurant was offering an excellent value 2 course deal between 5-7pm every evening, and that it had an extensive cocktail menu! We went on a Sunday night and it was very busy, so we were glad that we had booked a table. Despite the busyness, the service was quick and the food and drinks were delicious, with the Deep Fried Feta Saganaki being a particular highlight. We would definitely go back if we were ever in the area again!

It’s always great food at Kafeneon. There’s a terrific 5-7pm set price two course menu - we had the stuffed peppers and the chicken souvlaki for mains. Plenty of it and all delicious. We sat outside and the service was great. So pleased to be back!
