Me and my friend had a really nice time at the restaurant. We ordered 2 bento boxes and some extra sushi to share. We also ordered 2 drinks with our food, but nothing came out even after the food came out, we had to then...remind the waiter that we had ordered them. Abit disappointing because if your paying for not the cheapest of drinks you expect it to be brought up fairly quickly. Chopsticks are already set on tables before arriving however maybe have forks available aswell, as not everyone can use chopsticks. The chopsticks were very beautiful and you could tell they were not cheap! When it came to getting the bill me and my friend were abit disappointed that we couldn’t use our student discount unless we payed with cash. This was abit of a shame as the cash machines are not near the restaurant at all! I had £45 in cash however our bill came too £54 with student discount. We were told we had to pay the full amount of £59 since it wasn’t all in cash! This was disappointing as students don’t tend to carry cash and only use there card. Would be nice if student discount was allowed on collection orders aswell! Wont stop me going back as it is most definitely the best sushi in Newcastle!More
Been going to St Sushi Newcastle for about 12 years and always loved it , always used to be my favourite place for sushi until today. I like Yokohoma set which I ordered on numerous occasions as I do like a mixture of salmon and...tuna sashimi as well as selection of other rolls. The set came in without tuna. I asked the waitress that we may have been given the wrong set. I was assured the set was correct but they don't always have tuna like today that's why they not always serve it. I said there is no description of the set and you have to rely on thr picture in the menu to make a choice . She said she understand but now because we already touched the set she can't change it. I asked if they have tuna available today ,she said it was but not for this set. I asked if she could bring the tuna which is missing she said she'll speak to the kitchen. She came back and said that unfortunately she can't. Basically the if to order tuna sashimi it would cost me £8.50 but they simply didn't add it to the set which should have it. I felt scammed and very disappointed. It did put me off coming back to thus placeMore
Some of the best sushi we have tasted! It is on the more expensive side so I was a bit unsure at first however I feel it was worth the cost. The service was friendly and efficient, can’t wait to return.
I've had the pleasure of dining at St. Sushi multiple times, most recently in August 2023 and every visit reaffirms why it's my go-to sushi restaurant in town. From the atmosphere to the food, everything is top-notch. As soon as you walk in, you're enveloped...by the authentic Japanese interior, capturing the essence of traditional Japan. The decor provides a calming backdrop that elevates the dining experience, making it not just a meal but an entire sensory experience. The menu offers a myriad of options, suitable for all kinds of sushi lovers—whether you're a fan of Nigiri, Sashimi, or inventive Maki rolls. What keeps me coming back is not just the variety but the undeniable freshness of the food. The staff at St. Sushi are the cherry on top of the perfect dining experience. They're always welcoming, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, which is a real bonus if you're looking to try something new. Though the food and experience are high-end, I always feel like I'm getting excellent value for the quality of the meal and service. St. Sushi is, without a doubt, the best sushi restaurant in town. I've been many times and can't recommend it enough. If you're a sushi aficionado or even a first-timer looking for an exceptional experience, don't miss out on this local gem.More
This Place is absolutely horrible the food is too expensive and you have to wait 1/2 hours to eat and it’s not even that good the waiters are sleepy and they are not kind I really don’t know how to explain the badness of this...place and the last thing is that My Diet Coke was absolutely undrinkableMore
The sushi wasn’t anything special, but perfectly ok. The sesame ice cream however was amazing! My other half had tempura vegetables and katsu chicken - I think they used thigh meat as it was very fatty. Flavours were good though. Service was friendly but pretty...inattentive - we had to get up twice to ask a waiter to come over to our table and it didn’t seem that busy. Prices were higher than I expected, doesn’t feel like great value given other sushi places in Newcastle. Probably won’t go back any time soon, but still a good option.More
Walked in this Japanese restaurant and wow what a surprise. The service and food was just as you would expect. I cannot recommend this place enough. The food was outstanding. This restaurant sets a benchmark for sushi. I will be back next time I am...in townMore
Food was uninspired. Price was more than double what I'd expect to pay for the quality and amount of food. Drink prices were just daft. Avoid, you can get better than this 2 min walk away.
How this place isn't further up the list is beyond me - by far the best sushi in Newcastle by a long shot (and this doesn't even take into account their extensive selection of hot food). Ordered a variety of sushi between us - all...was fresh and to a high standard. Rice was soft and protein / rice ratio was very generous. Confused about negative reviews re: service. We found the staff to be polite and attentive.More
The service was so bad, I didn’t pay for the “optional” service charge because one of the waitresses was told my son off with a bad attitude, I can’t believe the waitress came to me after she didn’t receive the service charge and argue with...me, can’t believe how arrogant the waitress was, never ever had this experience before in a restaurantMore
Change of plan led to last minute phone around to find a table. Friendly staff, lovely food and great atmosphere. We (family of 3) thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Can't fault it, so delicious, lots of choice and not overpriced as some sushi/japanese restaurants can be. Would have been good to be warned of the limited dining time when booking (1.5hrs), but as it happened it made no difference on this occasion. Staff were...generally friendly, were attentive and despite being told there would be a 40min wait for sushi it actually arrived much quicker than that. Plenty of vegan and veggie options, classics and some interesting things we hadn't seen before and tried - all excellent. Cocktails were also really good.More
Excellent evening here. The staff were very accommodating getting 5 of us sat down despite having no booking and then despite our large order, they prepared it very quickly. I gave it a 4 rather than 5 as they had run out of draft beer...and the restaurant was quite chilly but to be fair, it was a really cold evening. I would definitely go back!More
For all future costumers: don’t order a bottle of wine if you won’t finish it at the same time with your food because THEY WILL make you leave the table and go! Me and my friend went for some sushi and we ordered a bottle...of wine, the food wasn’t bad, but it definitely could’ve been better. We were having a good time and enjoying conversation when the servers started to push for payment, they had asked before when we were almost done with the sushi order if we wanted dessert and we weren’t sure at the moment, but were thinking about it when one came with the receipt, so we thought “well looks like they won’t give us a chance to have dessert after all” Then another server came with a pdq asking for cards straight away, so we paid, didn’t check with us anything, just had us pay. And then another server (the one they referred as “the senior waiter” came to the table and told us we had to leave because the next reservation was there” (Baring in mind there was an empty table on the other side of the salon and the restaurant’s second level had several empty tables by the way) When I explain we were still having the bottle of wine we had purchased with dinner, she said she could put it on a bag for us, when I explained we didn’t want to take the wine but to finish it at the restaurant. So then I had to poor the remaining wine on the bottle (that was a whole full glass left) and she made us stand on the “bar counter” to finish it, which is really just a tiny space for service area with a petite fish tank IT WAS SO RUDE! It’s almost like she was annoyed we didn’t go in that moment, then while standing I asked another server why they made us stand up to finish the wine when there were empty tables, after a while they offered us to sit again on another table on a corner, and I asked for a glass of water that was received with a smile and an instant eye rolling upset expression (from the senior waiter) and that of course I never got. Definitely wanted us gone, maybe they thought we finished eating and were just holding a table, I don’t know, but definitely not the way of finding out with your costumers. There must be better sushi places in Newcastle where service is better and friendly, NOT GOING BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN.More
