📍Amaysia Restaurant, Newcastle (Chinatown) What's better than having family and warm homely food in a cold country, especially when you're already missing Malaysia? (haha.. I know it's been a short while only, but I really miss Malaysia's food!) The owner of Amaysia happens to be...from Penang, and the cuisine served was pretty darn good! Ah.. Having Soya Cincau, some Teh Ais… whoa, hands down, good stuff.. And the fried chicken wings were crisp and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our Mala Hotpot. With quality ingredients, premium beef slices and lotus roots, it was great food and great family time. It's lovely to know that we have food in Newcastle that has very much semblance to home. Even better to be having family around us. I'll definitely be coming back for more.More

Me and my family booked a table on New Years Eve, turned up to find they were closed. My family had travelled quite a distance to go there. I left my number when I booked, no one bothered to phone me. No message up at...the premises, nothing on the answering machine or on their Facebook page. Really bad service!!More

Food here is excellent, service is hit or miss, but very dissapointed that we made a telephone booking for New years Eve for a party of 5.and they are closed, no message on anwsering phone and no return call, not good customer service is it....I hate giving low rating, but to not inform customers they were going to close is beyond poor. People travelled quite a distance and spoilt the whole evening.More

We booked this restaurant for New Years Eve 2021 for husbands 70th birthday for five 8 o'clock we turned up expecting a great evening but the restaurant was in darkness shutters down . No explanation no telephone call what do you do we went from...restaurant to restaurant asking if they had any tables available. So very disappointing for my husband and family embarrassing for me because I had chosen this restaurant from reviews on trip advisorMore

Great portions and a menu that suits those looking for ‘traditional English’ Chinese food as well as those looking for something nearer the real thing. Great service and very fair prices. Well done - we’ll be back!

Those customers who gave bad reviews, I feel so sorry for them as they must be sooooooooo very unlucky. I am a regular customer at Amaysia and have no complaint, except it would be nice if the waiters introduce us to other dishes to venture,...as we are always playing safe, ordering the same dishes everytime. Sometimes when it's gets very busy, we waited for our food like 45 minutes to an hour. Its worth the wait cos the food is very delicious, affordable and big portion! The dishes I usually order are chicken chow mein, crispy beef, sweet and sour pork, beef fried noodles etc. And my favourite drink is the Giant Oreo Malt Cereal drink, which I share with my boyfriend. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.More

Me and my family occasionally come here to eat when we are in Newcastle. The staff are so friendly, the variety of food and drinks on the menu is bewildering and colourful. The majority of the menu are South East Asian cuisine setting it apart...from a typical ‘Chinese’ or ‘Asian’ restaurant. There isn’t really anywhere else in the UK that serves the same variety of dishes or that can match the standard and quality that Amaysia brings. On this particular visit, I ordered the ‘Singapore Hokkien Mee (Singapore Fried Vermicelli’ and as shown in the image, it comes with an assortment of seafood and beef. The texture and flavour of the noodles made me want to eat more and more, complimented by the juicy and flavourful seafood. The beef was tender and easy to chew and swallow which I appreciate as I usually have trouble eating tough meat that are hard to chew. The generous portion size ensured that I finished the dish feeling full and satisfied. We also ordered the ‘Oreo Milkshake’ which we underestimated the size of as it was absolutely gigantic! One thing to note is that if a dish is written as spicy, it really will be spicy! On a previous visit, we got the hot pot and it was like my mouth instantly caught on fire but was still thoroughly enjoyable. I would wholeheartedly recommend Amaysia as it’s one of my top 3 restaurant picks in the UK! Without a single doubt, I will definitely be returning if I was to visit Newcastle in the future and would highly suggest anyone else to try it too! (Or you’ll be missing out really hahaha).More

Had the best time with my family! The atmosphere is beautifully decorated and very friendly staff, one of the most memorable, delicious meals. The Laksa and Singapore Hokkien Mein was super tasty. We will be coming back!

Would i recommend this place? Absolutely not!!!!. It may just be the worse restaurant i have ever been to. Me and my bf booked a reservation yesterday. When we got there, there was a family of 7 who had showed up with no reservation and...the staff was trying to get them seated, we watched as other staff walked by without speaking to us to ask whether or not we had a reservation. This other couple of 2 showed up behind us and the staff ignores us then goes to ask them if they had a reservation and they said no before they even spoke to me and my bf. It was so awkward and we probs should have left then. Fast forward we finally get seated after 15mins of standing outside while everyone with no reservation gets seated before us, then he gives us no menu while everyone else got menus as they were seated. After 15mins, with no one coming to our table i had to ask one of them if we can have a menu before we got one. Then again no one came to ask if we are ready to order for about 30mins. We were close to walking out. I had to alert staff again that we were ready to order, they took our order, drinks didnt come till an hour later, our starters came 40mins later, then i again had to alert staff about our main, the guy goes after we have been waiting 40mins for it (oh its already prepared, do you want to take it home?) Like no we have been sat here at the table 40mins, can you please serve it to us), so he brings it over then gives my bf something he did not order. What was painful to watch was how the staff isolated and discriminated against us all night, it took me to chase up everything before we got anyone coming to us. The staff would walk to tables around us asking if they have their meal, are they ok, how is the food, then me and my bf sat there with nothing, they just walk past us with angry faces like we have done something wrong. Being black i am used to such ignorance but my bf could not believe something like that could happen in plain sight. If you are Caucasian and you like average tasting chinese food with pink uncooked chicken then id recommend this place, but if you black, stay away completely to avoid these death stares from unwelcoming staff and absolutely vulgar service!.More
