Jan 2020 friends
We ate there on Saturday 25th Jan 2020. You have to book..or you will be unlikely to get a table. We took two of our lovely friends who we have know for years. They are very discerning when it comes to food. We had pate, mackerel and sizzling prawn starters, fish pie, steak, liver and salmon mains and mocha desserts. The food was superb it just couldn’t be faulted, all four of us agreed. The service was excellent too. I love it when the waiters are attentive enough to care the you’re having a good meal and have everything you need, but are not intrusive. This is the third time my hubby and I have been and we love it. Highly recommended but do book in advance. I can’t wait for the summer when we can sit outside overlooking the river. Thank you to all at The Bridge we had a wonderful evening!

Yesterday 4 of us were celebrating the life of a dear man and so wanted somewhere special where we could relax, safe in the knowledge that we would enjoy excellent food, with a great view and feel safe. We definitely were not disappointed. The staff were attentive, observing all the protocols in force, whilst still creating a happy, welcoming environment. The food was absolutely delicious and we will all definitely return very soon. Well done to the Management and staff of The Bridge 🙌🏼

Chose the Bridge to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary as we were staying nearby. We were keen to dine on the terrace which can't be booked so turned up at 12 noon on the dot, and received a warm welcome. Lovely menu with some interesting choices - for us, bacon and black pudding with a perfect poached egg and the seared pigeon breast to start. Our mains were a lovely marinated rump steak with asian slaw and the fish stew. Both very tasty and perfect portion sizes, well prepared and presented. Like the fact that you can order 500ml of wine in a carafe, we chose a super French rose which was perfect for the summery day. We rarely have puddings but couldn't resist the spiced plum crumble and the panacotta, again ideal portion sizes and very tasty. Service was friendly and relaxed, we were given the option of a pause before puds which was welcomed. They were pretty busy by this time and our coffees got forgotten but were swiftly brought after a reminder. Very nice imaginative food, and a great experience. EOTHO was a bonus but we will definitely return.

This was our 3rd time here. The food and setting is lovely but was let down this time. We were looking forward to eating here again and wanted to support them. We went out for a family meal on Saturday night. The starter and main were lovely but the dessert was a big let down. We ordered Eaton mess, but we couldn’t taste any meringue it was just cream. Very disappointing. Told the waiter and he just said he would let the chef know. No apologies and when another waitress came with the bill, she didn’t ask how was your meal. This was a waste of £14. (£7 each) Only one waiter was polite and friendly and he was a young man with glasses. They could do with learning from him. It’s not just the food people want but friendly and polite staff make an evening. We ate out at 2 of Paul Ainsworth’s restaurants last week paid the same money more or less but the staff were so polite and friendly. Which is what you want in today’s world.

After hearing so many good things over the past few years I thought I would treat my partner to a birthday lunch at the Bridge. How lucky we were to be seated in the window (my request) with our backs to the river, looking through to the tanning centre and Chinese across the road. The owners were polite but in part unhelpful and disinterested. We did not feel welcome and neither side of the partnership were particularly engaging in conversation. The starters and mains were interesting and on the whole well cooked. The dessert we chose was poached pear with a honey and brandy panna cotta, very bland and tasted overwhelmingly of dairy . The owner agreed it tasted very creamy (and of very little else) and although hardly touched was quite happy to take it away without offering an alternative. I am sure on another day we could have had a better experience but on a wet February day we just felt an inconvenience. Will not be giving it a second chance unless it changes hands.

Good location overlooking the river. An evening meal with my wife. Covid measures appeared satisfactory. We ordered the poussin and sword fish. A very small amount of bread appeared after around 20 mins. It took approx 40 mins for the food to arrive. My wife received liver instead of poussin and my fish had no chips, which I had to ask for. The front of house appeared to lack experience. The liver looked OK and given we were hungry we ate what we were given. After a few minutes the front of house realised the mistake and offered the poussin. When the chicken came out it wasn't cooked with visible blood from the leg meat. It was sent back for further cooking leaving my wife with no food whilst I ate the fish. The salad with the fish was a disappointment. It was simply a mixed leaf salad from a bag and was missing the capers, olives and red onion per the menu description. I managed to find one tiny olive, the smallest caper and one slice of onion. The chips were simply frozen fast food style skinny chips. After the chicken arrived back we had lost confidence. My wife ate a little before we decided to cut our losses and leave as the experience by that stage was far from satisfactory. It was agreed the bill would be reduced to reflect the experienced and quality of the food received. I appreciate this a pretty damning review. However, the Bridge positions itself at the higher end of the casual dining spectrum, which makes the shortcomings we experienced all the more apparent.

A very disappointing visit. We have been coming here for several years and always for both our birthdays and our wedding anniversary as we have previously had great food and good service. However, on this occasion (7th August) it was far from enjoyable. The waiter (who hopefully is not the owner!) couldn't have been more unfriendly or unwelcoming, although I have to say both waitresses were very pleasant and understanding, especially when my husband's Italian fish stew arrived - it was very small, in fact we thought they'd given us a starter by mistake! The waitress agreed and offered an alternative. My husband chose the liver. We know that liver should be served pink but this was almost raw and to be honest, pretty inedible. Whether the chef made a mistake or was annoyed we returned the stew we can't be sure! We have had nothing put praise for the Bridge over the years and have recommended it to many people, many times, so it is very sad to say this will probably be our last visit.

Thought we would try a roast from here after not visiting the restaurant in years and was majorly disappointed. It was a set menu where you could have 2 or 3 courses. We didn’t quite reach the pudding stage. The starters were poorly presented and the squid was just basically greasy batter with minimal squid. As for the mains...we had a roast lamb, mushroom linguine and a roast duck which you had to pay an extra £7.50 on top of the set price. The mushroom linguine was bland in taste with a watery creamy sauce in the bottom on the bowl with the pasta just swimming in. The lamb was average and as for the duck! How they can charge an extra £7.50 was completely beyond us. Roast potatoes were clearly batch cooked in the morning and just left under hot lights, the broccoli you couldn’t even cut, it was basically raw and the duck was just pure fat with a bit of crispy skin and did not look appetising as all. We didn’t stay for pudding as just wanted to get out of there and it’s safe to say, we will not be returning.

This was a first meal out since lockdown to celebrate a birthday. Social distancing between the tables was non-existent, almost touching shoulders with a person on the next table. Staff were wearing visors but not all were wearing them correctly. Really did not feel very comfortable. The vegetarian choice was very poor and the meal was very basic with minimal salad and inedible mushrooms. Have been here many, many times but will not be returning any time soon.

We stopped off here for a meal on a Monday evening whilst moored over the way on our first ever narrow boating holiday (fyi - if you fancy narrowboating and have never done it, do it, it's ace!) Anyway, we had a full 3 course meal at the bridge and it was excellent. Fairly quiet and very covid safe. I had duck breast for starter and the hubby had figs with roquefort- both lovely. I then had steak and he had fancy liver and onions. Again, both cooked to perfection. Finished off with treacle tart and cheese board. The whole thing was done really well. Slightly unusual menu but we liked the choices. Service was excellent. Young lad took care of us most of the night and he was obviously well trained. He remembered to ask for extra drinks, if we wanted anything else and removed stray chips from the table when he cleared the plates. He was pleasant and efficient. All in all a very pleasant evening.

Well balanced menu, from fish and chip to Venison casserole. Service very good. Food piping hot and full of flavour. Will keep this one for family get togethers in the future. It could be improved by having draught beer and wine in 500ml carafes.

IMHO The Bridge does a great job. You get what you pay for in this life and for a reasonable price you get an excellent meal and great service. I've been going to the Bridge for sunday lunches and family celebrations for over 15 years and not once have I been disappointed.

Our first night away we thankfully booked this wonderful restaurant, we arrived at 7.30 and asked if we wanted to sit indoors or outside, as it was such a nice evening we chose to sit outside looking over the Avon and swans gliding by. We were served by friendly staff who all had a smile on their faces despite wearing masks. We were given the menu plus the specials, I chose the most incredible duck starter with a plum compot followed by calves liver which was so tender. Hubby had a chicken liver salad to start with followed by an aberdeen angus burger, he also thought the taste and presentation superb, so much so he mentioned to the waitress it was worthy of a Mitchlin star, for dessert we both had rice pudding with prunes soaked in brandy devine. We loved our meal so much we have booked for our last night, thank you for a great evening and a great start to our week's stay in the area

The restaurant itself had plenty of atmosphere it was very busy and had a certain buzz about it, the staff were all very welcoming. There was a really good selection of starters and it was difficult to make a decision as they all sounded great. I had baked figs with blue cheese which I must say was delicious and my friend had soup which he said was excellent. We both had duck for the mains , fabulous and cooked to perfection as were the generous bowl of vegetables and the really good roast potatoes all served with a jug of gravy. All in all a great meal which we both can thoroughly recommend

My family and I went to The Bridge for a nice lunch to celebrate my birthday. I had read good reviews and was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I experienced disappointment at various aspects of our visit. Several significant dishes were not available as “the butcher hasn’t delivered”. There is a butcher across the street. There was no draught beer or lager available. On arrival, I was not immediately acknowledged in a warm and welcoming way. It very much felt that none of the staff really wanted to be there and the service was dismissive at best and slightly rude, abrasive and sharp at worst. The reassuring redeeming feature was that after a good 40m wait, the food was deliciously tasty. The location was lovely with a picturesque vista of the River Avon. Disappointingly, we won’t be returning or recommending to others.
