The Vintner emerges as a culinary delight for many visitors, with its food earning high praise for both excellence and variety, including standout dishes such as sticky toffee pudding and mango chicken. Guests have called out the restaurant's good value, noting the balance of quality and cost. While the timbered building adds a charming and cozy touch to the dining experience, a handful of patrons suggest the ambiance could be enhanced. Service at The Vintner is generally celebrated for its attentiveness, though experiences of slower service have been mentioned.

We booked the lovely private dining area on 29/2/20 for a small wedding party of 11 , the food was beautiful and the service was exceptional. The room itself is lovely with Oak beams and a magnificent oak table. We have some confusion over the quoted price which we thought was £21 and they charged us £31 per head for 3 courses. It was worth £31 but not what we were quoted after a short discussion the duty manager sorted it out and refunded the extra to us. Would thoroughly recommend and definitely use again Thank you for making our day special

My partner and I were had stayed in Stratford for Valentines Day so the following morning we went out to look for somewhere for breakfast. The morning was miserable, wet and windy and we thought we had left it too late when we spotted the window table being cleaned down at The Vintner and looking at the clock it was 11.25am and breakfast supposedly finished at 11.30am. We went in and asked if we were OK for breakfast and as it was just the two of us we were welcomed in and took the prime table looking out on the wet world of Stratford. Full English breakfast, Orange Juice, tea and coffee was ordered and we waiting for things to happen. On the side was an open gas fire with a great feature which gives the impression of it being a real open fire so that added to the ambience. People were walking by outside with hoods up, brollies open and rain jackets zipped to the top - all looking in with envy that we were in the dry! The drinks arrived first and shortly after the Full English breakfasts which were lovely. With the food on the table the looks from outside became even more envious and we considered ourselves lucky to have found the place when we did. All in all we were there about an hour before we rejoined the wet brigade outside however this time we were content having consumed a marvellous breakfast! Highly recommended - especially if you can get the window table!

Popped in for a late lunch and we shown to a table upstairs. Lovely room with exposed beams. The menu is quite extensive but we chose the 2 course set lunch at £17.00. The food was delicious and plentiful - we both had the devilled chicken livers followed by the sea bream and the vegetable curry. The wine was also very good and reasonably priced. The main reason I’d return though is the service - it was impeccable. It was attentive without being intrusive and the staff genuinely seemed to care that you enjoyed your meal. Charlotte particularly was excellent. There are a lot of tourist traps in Stratford - this isn’t one of them.

Food was very nice, and good value off the fixed price menu, but service painfully slow upstairs, especially as the waitress had very few tables to look after once we had had our starters. She disappeared for long periods of time, and seemed more focused on laying cutlery for the next sitting. Disappointing, as we have had good service there before.

Visited for a quick lunch last month whilst in Stratford. Unfortunately we left feeling quite disappointed. Service was slow and not particularly friendly. We arrived at the beginning of lunch service and there were only a few tables in there at the time. We were served by two older waitresses who were more interested in chatting than taking our order. Food arrived quickly, my partner had a pork belly dish which credit where it’s due was delicious. I had a Cajun chicken sandwich with fries which was incredibly disappointing. The chicken itself just has an overwhelming taste of dried herbs and the fries were cheap and tasteless. Even the mayonnaise was quite gelatinous and tasted cheap. Unfortunately we didn’t receive a check back as again, the waitresses were too busy chatting. I left quite a bit of my meal and this wasn’t recognised by the lady clearing the table so didn’t feel the need to give any feedback on at this point. We asked for the bill and left. Really disappointed as the menu was really promising and the building itself is beautiful. Perhaps Vintner is more of an establishment for a hot evening meal rather than a quick lunch.

This restaurant has all the authentic features you'd expect to find in Shakespeare's town: low beams, wooden floors and leaded windows. We were impressed by the friendly staff in that although the ambience was informal, the attention to detail and prompt service were excellent. There was a good amount of choice on the menu (available to see online so not described here); each of the four of us opted for different dishes for the three courses and everything was of a high quality. We have already booked a return visit to The Vintner and would confidently recommend it.

Spur of the moment stop for breakfast and wish we had looked further. Rather abrupt welcome with COVID checks, totally understand it’s required but welcome with a smile would be appreciated; good measures in place though. Had a breakfast and a “small eggs benedict”. Perhaps I should have checked what this exactly was but it certainly was small. For the price it was very unimpressive. Coffees were tepid and I had to ask for a top up, half a cup of foam in a mocha is not great. Breakfast had tough bacon, an incinerated tomato and they forgot the toast and when asked brought brown rather than the requested white. I don’t give exaggerated or unnecessary reviews but if seeking breakfast go to one of the many cafes instead where your money we go further. I ended up stopping for a jacket potato shortly after as I was still hungry. Nice decor; perhaps better for dinner.

After reading the reviews I decided to book a table for four persons. Two of the guests were my son and his wife who we have not met for some time. So this was to be a pre xmas treat. Oh dear how wrong I was. lets go straight in to the food and service My wife ordered the Muscles. Now under normal circumstances you would think the muscles would fill the shell they came in, well not in this case, the muscles where no bigger than the size of my little finger nail. The situation was raised with the supposed waitress who I thought listened to my concerns about the muscles and could the waitress take back my comments to the chef to explain my issue. All the waitress could say was 'sorry about that', the waitress went back to the kitchen and again I was thinking she would come back to me maybe to offer an alternative but no I heard nothing! As for my chicken mango curry meal - The chicken was over cooked, dry and had no flavour, the mango sauce again was flavourless. Now the service, not once did the waitress come over and ask us if everything was okay, was there anything else needed, no all they did was stand by the pillar talking! I live in Stratford Upon Avon and have visited Vitners, lambs, Loxleys many times and had a wonderful experience unfortunately today was not the case.

We ate here on Saturday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The venue itself was warm and welcoming, as were the staff. The food was delicious and they were running a very reasonable 3 course set menu for £20. I had the mackerel starter, sea bream red curry and chocolate mousse cake. All were superb, and the fish fillets were fresh and really well cooked. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

We've eaten out more than expected on our break in Stratford as the food on offer at our hotel is lacking. As a result we have ended up having both breakfast and dinner at the Vintner today!! I had salmon and eggs for breakfast, my husband had the full English - fresh, hot and really good quality ingredients ☺. I even washed my breakfast down with a mimosa!! 🥂 Dinner was even better than expected....hardest thing was choosing what to have! We both opted for soup of the day (cauliflower served with Welsh rarebit) - really tasty. Then we both had fresh fish, sea bass with crab risotto and sea bream in red Thai sauce....so so so good!! Finished off with dessert.....also excellent. The service was fantastic and they had a good selection of wines. The building itself has a lovely ambience and history, we loved it and wouldn't hesitate to dine here again! Thank you for saving the final night of our mini moon in Stratford ❤

A huge and heartfelt thank you to The Vintner for a wonderful celebration of my birthday! We booked the private dining area which seated ten of us perfectly around a table large enough for us all to sit comfortably, chat easily and yet still within the lovely atmosphere of the restaurant. Our waitress, Joanne, was attentive, there when we needed her but leaving us to enjoy the amazing food when we didn't. Most of my party enjoyed the Sunday roast, beef and pork which was cooked to perfection. Mini bowls of vegetables were served between two people which was thoughtful and prevented waiting. We were spoilt for choice with the desserts and I can certainly recommend the sticky toffee pudding which was light, with just enough sauce served with a creamy ice cream. The cappuccinos were delightful too and timed perfectly after the dessert. The entire experience, from booking with Melissa more than six weeks ago to the event was managed professionally, with warmth and contributed to the celebration overall. I strongly recommend dining at The Vintner and look forward to returning soon. Thank you!

We ate at The Vintner at 8pm on a Friday evening at the end of October. We were given a lovely spacious table upstairs. It was our first meal out since before Covid-19, and the venue felt very safe. We weren’t rushed and the staff worked extremely hard to make guests feel relaxed. The Escalopes Of Pork Fillet with Egg & French Fries still ranks as one of my favourite main meals ever. My Fiancee said her rib eye steak was cooked to perfection and one of the best she’d had. Thanks to Paul for handling our booking and to the staff who made our few hours out so nice. We really enjoyed it. Thank you.

My husband and I popped in for lunch while visiting Stratford-upon-Avon. The outside of the restaurant really drew us in as it looked very inviting. The staff were friendly and the restaurant interior was interesting and comfortable, but unfortunately we both felt the food was very lacking. My husband had the steak sandwich which was flat and grey and he said was flavourless. I had the Cajun chicken sandwich which was bland and served with a 'salsa' which tasted like bottled sweet chilli sauce with a little diced tomato and avocado mixed into it. Both were served in a cheap, white bread roll which was dry and bland. For nearly £12 and £14 each we felt the food was not of restaurant quality and unfortunately we wouldn't visit again.

I’ve lived in Stratford for nearly 10 yrs and have found the menu has barely changed over that period of time. For that reason, I only ever visit if I have to. Attended a family dinner in March. Being vegan, the choice is extremely limited. In fact there was only one starter and one main to chose from. Onion Bhaji and chili sin carne. An odd combination but beggars can’t be choosers right? Vegans usually get told what to eat as choice appears to be a privilege we must never be afforded. The starter was lukewarm but OK. The main had no flavour or substance. It was literally some boiled white rice with a watery chilli sauce that contained a couple of beans. A pretty sad sight. Had it been served in a Wheterspoon’s it might have just passed as acceptable. My meat and fish loving family was equally disappointed. The pork dish featured a 2 inch piece of meat that was so ridiculously small everyone felt cheated. The fish pie was dry and pretty much inedible. We all passed on dessert as service was so slow that we had to rush off without. The whole menu seemed to have been designed to maximise margin. Which is understandable in these tough times but one can still delight the punters and provide great food that costs little to produce with just a little more effort and imagination.

The menu was varied with a lot of choice, set menus also available. Friendly staff and very good service, the food is not cheap but the quality is excellent. It was full on a Monday night where a lot of the restaurants in the town were very quiet. Speaks for itself.
