I Cannot But Love This Restaurant

At long last! After more than a year away, I finally made it back to this little restaurant/cafe. I went on the first day they re-opened and it seemed I was not the only one waiting because they had sold out of all BBQ meats by early evening! I had to make do with some noodle soup, which is good BUT their BBQ meats is the main attraction! The next day, I returned and bought some duck and BBQ pork - oh yes, it was as good as ever, maybe better. I have been here several times over the past few years and whether it was the long gap between visits or they got even better but the duck and pork tasted fantastic. The duck was slightly too fatty for my taste but they cannot really choose the lean ones and you do need some fat for the dish to work. What can I say, friendly staff, casual atmosphere, excellent food and decent prices. There was a buzz about the place as well, as customers and the restaurant were all happy to be back, making the place feel lively and happy.

Chinese street food

I have found that it is always a good sign if the community of a restaurant are eating in it. The Look In, is no exception with all the other customers today being Chinese. The food arrived quickly, hot and delicious. The Chinese tea was regularly topped up. The food was cheap and plentiful and we ate the lot The restaurant is in a good location to watch the world go by in this busy part of the city.

Been eating here since it opened

I have been eating here since it opened having followed the waitress and chef from peach gardens which i had been going to since i was about 14 (now 31), the lovely girl knows my order, my family always asks how i am. I am a loyal customer. The roast meats are amazing if you get lucky enough to get the piglet please do, the 3 roast with rice is my go to choice though.

Tasty food and value for money

We had an early dinner here Easter Saturday. It's quite cramped inside, but there were a couple of tables available. Simplistic furniture decor with no tablecloths, napkins etc. like posh restaurants. The waitress took our orders quickly and the food arrived within 10 minutes. The presentation is quite basic - just a large plate with a lot of rice plus the extras (meat or veg with sauce) on top. It reminded me of the food my dad used to cook me decades ago as a kid. But it's definitely tasty and filling, and will settle in your stomach given time, so there's no need for starters. Each dish is just under a tenner, and that's value for money. We'll definitely come back to sample more of their menu.

One of the best restaurants in Birmingham Chinatown.

Recommended by a trendy food critic for superb authentic Chinese/Cantonese food. A small cafe type atmosphere which was packed with local Chinese people, never a bad sign in my opinion. The food (chicken & green peppers in a black bean sauce with fried rice) was excellent and reasonably priced. I would definitely go again when next in the area.

Look In is an absolutely fabulous experience

When a Chinese restaurant is full of Chinese people all dining, that’s telling you something - the Look In is an absolutely fabulous experience. Don’t expect Michelin starred food, what you will get is very helpful staff who are keen to recommend a house special. Glad I took their recommendation, the beef chow mein not only did it look the part, it was excellent and a hefty portion too. Top tip 1 - be authentic, use chopsticks !! Top tip 2 - cash only restaurant !!

Brilliant in Brum

Wow! We wanted authentic Chinese food and that's exactly what we got. Two superb meals for £30 as good as it gets! When we sat down, we spoke to a couple with a young daughter, they told us it was their go to Chinese that never let them down. They recommended the pork chops and rice and I had shredded beef and chili with chow mein. We also ordered a side of curry sauce. Everything was perfect, we cleaned our plates! We're back in Birmingham on Tuesday and have already discussed returning for more!

Amazing food, great service and welco.ing atmosphere

This place is amazing. Beautiful and perfectly cooked meats, amazing noodle dishes and more. The restaurant is tiny, but if you can get a table inside it is worth it. The takeaway is just as amazing, I just don't like waiting till I get home to eat it.

Two strikes, one more…

There’s nothing like going to a place, ordering by pointing at what another is eating, (that looks nice, I’ll have that) and be presented with a sub-par version of what they think you want. Not wanting to let it go to waste I ate it, paid and left. This is the second time I feel screwed over by this place and, as is current in America, ‘three strikes and you’re out’. There won’t be a long third review, just a statement to say, ‘my money is just as valid elsewhere’. I am only one customer but I don’t want you to go down the same route. You may love the place but don’t be complacent.

Always plenty of Chinese people here, almost nobody speaks English, which is what you want from such a place. Huge portion of tasty crispy noodles with duck (lots of fatty skin, never seen so much skin on a piece of duck). Free Chinese tea, too

Amazing food and staff

Alls o good for such a small place, staff were so nice and the food was amazing as well as being large portions for a big guy like me. It was a struggle to eat but soooo good! This was a random pick to try on a trip from Derby so i didn't know what to expect. I wish Derby and Nottingham had places like these, ill be back for sure.

If you don’t look right don’t expect to be treated right.

Do not expect to be treated like an auntie if you don’t look like one. Tonight I asked for an item that was not available until a ‘regular’ asked for it, at which point, ‘Hey Presto!’ here it is. It wasn’t about the money, just who they wanted to serve. Fortunately legal tender in the U.K. can be used anywhere and that is where it will be used after this.

Flippin love it. Really tasty food at good price and easy menu to follow. The roasts are amazing but this time I had chicken satay. I always come here when I go into brum. Should try somewhere else but why change a good thing

Great Food and Staff

Love this place, they take such good care of us. The Chinese soup is amazing, but the roasts are truly brilliant. Its usually busy, and there is a reason its that good. One of the most authentic places we have found in the UK. Decent prices, big portions.
