Made two visits over two weeks at lunch time with friends. The restaurant is small so we booked a table each time to be safe. This was my first restaurant meal after the easing of lock down, and I did it with style. I remember eating with Sushi Passion a few years ago when they had a tiny place in the indoor market in Birmingham. I was blown away then as I was again now. The restaurant has a distinctive style starting from the curtain you part to get in. The place reeks of authenticity from the choice of low tables or normal seating to the decor and vibe. This is real sushi, made by a master. I have never tasted anything as good as the scallops. The tuna and mackerel come a close second. Absolutely delicious. On both occasions we ordered loads and every bite was perfect. The lobster roll and the soft shell crab is to die for. This place is not cheap but you pay for quality. The first occasion cost £129 for two where we ordered bits and pieces and the second occasion was £150 for three where we ordered two of the bigger sashimi and roll selections. The staff are wonderful and friendly. This is the perfect place to eat and I cannot recommend it more highly.

Best sushi in town! Only went there twice so far as its an expensive place, but hey, you get really good sushi there. I can easily say thats the best sushi place in town I visited so far. Its only a little local with great atmosphere and good decor. I do recommend to everyone that wants to have very good quality Japanese food and don’t mind spending about £40-£50 per person! Quality comes with the price and I am happy to pay what they charge as long as they keep delivering fantastic food!

Great location in the great western arcade and even though the sushi chefs aren’t Japanese they make a good effort of making the various dishes. The raw ingredients are v good which is half the battle but I am not sure the price point is right. I live in London and regularly eat comparable at a lower price point. Check the menu before you go

Terrible experience! The sushi was not good and the wine we ordered was terrible. But what really made the experience a nightmare was the rudeness and unprofessionalism of the staff. As as as we tasted the wine we asked to change it which they agreed to, but then when the bill was presented to us, they insisted we pay for both the wine we tasted and sent back right away and the one we substituted it with (sake, for the same price). My husband pointed out to the waiter they were making a mistake and he even spoke with the manager, but they insisted we paid for both because “they already poured it”... Talk about unprofessionalism! Additionally, my husband had asked through OpenTable to prepare a cake for me given it was my birthday but of course they did not prepare anything. Fortunately, my husband and I were fast to eat so that we were able to go to the Ivy nearby for another dinner and actually have a pleasant night. For a meal of well over £100 for two people, it is absolutely absurd to be treated in such a way. Mediocre food and super unprofessional staff!

What a great bit of sushi! Having tried a lot of sushi from around the world, I had my fingers crossed for some tasty sushi and they delivered. The green tea that was brought out in a heavy container was a surprising treat. I was expecting it to be brought out as a single cup, so this was great. It felt quite traditional and the tea was tasty. I wanted to try a few different things so opted for a Philadelphia set which had a range of salmon, tuna and crab. The salmon and tuna sashimi was first. The rice was cooked to perfection with a beautiful balance of flavours. This married very well with the delicate salmon and tuna. As an ex chef, I really appreciated the quality of the rice. The crab sushi rolls and Philadelphia rolls were also fantastic. The rice was the star of the show but the other simple ingredients brought out a great balance. The only thing that I wasn't a big fan of was the spicy tuna gunkan. It had a very strong seafood sauce/mayo which overtook everything and there was far too much of it. It was also quite hard to pick up with any dignity because it was wrapped in a cucumber slice. This made it a slippery customer and I had to resort to taking it apart to get it over to my plate. This may have been my poor chopstick skills at play if I'm being honest though. The environment in the restaurant is also nice. Being able to see the chefs effortlessly prepare whole salmon in front of you was great.

Our first visit to this small restaurant.First impressions it’s a very small place seating 2x tables of 4 seating and 2x tables of 4 traditional kneeling. We had booked the table seating due to medical needs, turned up and they had booked the kneeling table, which was not suitable.A very kind table of seating friends swapped with us as they wanted to kneel at the table,so all sorted,Thankyou. We ordered the Dragon set at £90 as we were novices didn’t know what we would like. This was for 4 adults. The bottom line my wife loved all of it,the rest of us were left disappointed as we didn’t like it as much as we were expecting we would, and that’s not down to the quality, just not our thing! To sum up,if you love the sushi thing this is great food,if your novice it’s an expensive way to find out you don’t! The front of house girls were lovely and polite, lovely looking place too. While Covid is going on you could do with some ventilation in there, too crowded especially the seating round the chefs!!!

I ordered a sushi set for take away. I am a regular and as usual the food was excellent and worth the price. However, I was very disappointed this visit. Where I lived, there was no delivery service from the city centre so I drove 20 minutes each way. On returning home, I discovered there was no wasabi and ginger. I phoned the restaurant and the lady said these items were complimentary so if you don’t ask for it, you may not get it. I know it’s my fault for not checking my bag before leaving, but this new policy was not appropriate. My sushi contained lots of raw and needed wasabi and it’s not an item that is sold at a shop down the road. So please, if you want ginger and wasabi here, please ask for them.

This is honestly the first time I have ever written a review on trip advisor but that’s how happy I am with everything. Cos of lockdown I haven’t been able to enjoy many things so when I heard my favourite sushi place was open again for collection and takeaways I ordered straight away. I was a bit worried about getting a takeaway because I didn’t know if the standard would be as good but it was. I know I sound a bit weird getting this happy but lockdown has us all down in the dumps and I will enjoy the little things in life. I even called to say thank you and found out the names of everyone so I can write this down. Patricia was so lovely with her customer service and she packed all the sauces for me without even asking! And the chefs Paolo and Mo (I think I’m spelling it right I hope) did an excellent job with the sushi and the packaging that’s left me so full and satiated (mind you I ordered three rolls to myself to anyone wondering I recommend the teriyaki set). So thanks again sushi passion team for a lovely meal and kindness from you all.

We are avid sushi fans, and had been looking to go to Sushi Passion for quite some time. Believe you me - we were not disappointed! The restaurant feels very intimate and cosy, perfect for date nights and dinners with friends. This restaurant also allows for a range of seating, from western tables to tatami style of seating. We loved this! (You may need to book in advance or request this). The restaurant boast award after award from Trip Advisor along with relaxing music and atmosphere. We were really impressed with the customer service throughout our meal and the attentiveness of our server. The open kitchen meant that you could watch your food be freshly prepared using high quality, fresh ingredients and equally excellent presentation! We ordered the Party Sashimi Set to share between two - it came with the miso soups too. The miso was light and well seasoned and the colourful morsels of sushi were delectable. You could really taste how fresh the fish was - perfectly paired with fiery wasabi! You will not regret a trip into this little gem. Instagram Handle: @lifesansguilt

I’ve tried so many sushi placed but I have to say Sushi Passion is definitely one of the best restaurant. Great location at the Arcadian, at the heart of Birmingham. Authentic menu with a great variety of sashimi and sushi. The experience dining at this place was impeccable..you will also be served miso soup by a toy train (how cool is that) Great aura and excellent service. You can also get to see the chef making sushi if you get a table at the bar. Highly recommended!!

On entering the restaurant there was no atmosphere and it was obvious there was a long wait for food. After waiting a while to be seated it became obvious that the restaurants priority was preparing take out food not looking after those who had booked and were actually in the restaurant. Another long wait before we were asked if we would like a drink. Wine not available by the bottle, only in small measures, at a significant cost. Wine selection very limited. The restaurant owner is simply being greedy. We walked out and found a much better alternative. Prepare to be disappointed by Sushi Passion.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. It was quite pricey, but it was genuinely so worth it. Everything looked amazing on the menu, and the presentation is just beautiful. The wait time was a bit longer than I expected, but you could see the sushi was freshly made; and if you sit at the bar, you can watch the food being prepared. It was incredibly tasty and I will definitely go back.

Had an outstanding experience with my mate at Sushi Passion. The ladies (waiters) were so lovely and kind, always helpful too. Kamal knows portuguese as we are and made us feel home, besides the best sushi Ive eaten in UK that was prepared by him. If you are a suhi lover, its a fair price for the fabulous quality you’ll find. Best sushi and best staff! Ps: only had that one pic, couldnt wait when the sushi arrived!!

I have been visiting Sushi Passion over the last few weeks as my youngest child is being treated by the nearby Birmingham Children Hospital. The restaurant has been an oasis for me during that time. Over the weekend, the rest of my children joined me and my wife for our first weekend together since mid August. I brought them here and we went all out with my favourites for four. It was amazing and the staff really looked after us. Highly recommend! Thank you Sushi Passion…this meant a lot!
